Solo-werks s1 Coilover review and thoughts - suspension noises - 5 months 3k miles Volkswagen Passat

6/6/23 - DCG the spring rates are wrong, and the front coils bind and pop. It sucks!
*Keep in mind I’m new to this. This is the first car I’ve done this kind of work on*
About 5 months in, and around 3k miles on these now. Discussing how I feel about them and what my experience has been. Still feel they are worth the cost If you really can’t spend more.
I have been unable to stop the noises from the front end after replacing all four springs, front mounts and end links. Riding about 13.25” fender to hub all around.

LOL dude...you are awesome! Love how you share the experience, PONG, PING, CLUNK, BANG....LOL IDENTICAL problem here....I own a 2015 CC 3.6L 4-Motion and I went with ST Coilovers, EXACT same thing happened to me with ST, I was getting clunks and pings while pulling out of parking stalls, it was emberrassing. ST sent me 6 different pairs of shoks and struts lol BUT, I had all the work done at a shop...and Yes, the shop charged me an arm and a leg everytime I brought back my VW with poping clunking noises. The mechanics at the shop finally told...."JUST ENJOY THE RIDE, IT'S A VOLKSWAGEN".....and that stuck with me, so I just enjoy the car now and crank up the music hahaha I love the ride of the ST coilovers though and have had them now for about 4 years, I get the occassional pop and ping, but over the years it has improved a lot, the noise I mean lol And Solo werks aint bad a tll, there are A LOT worse brans out there...... Did the poping sounds go away now for you?

No man if anything it’s got worse!! Also the fronts bottom out pretty easy, or the sway bar is hitting I’m not sure. Just today I was annoyed by pops from the front when hitting the brakes and parking at the grocery store. Car drives decent but is more bouncy than I’d like. It’s really not that big a deal I guess. I usually do exactly like you say - MUSIC LOUD - can’t hear the suspension noises 😂😂😂. I’ll probably let it go until after tax season then consider replacing.

Thanks for posting. Think I might get springs instead. My car won't see tracks for another year and right now I just want the gaps gone.

Alot of people do not know this, not saying you don't but when lowering a car all control arms have to be loosened and adjusted to new height so bushings do not get destoyed.

Glad you made this video. I have a 19 mk7 Jetta and seen that the solo werks coilovers is pretty cheap and was considering on making the purchase. Now I seen your take on it maybe I’ll hold off on it? I was also thinking of just purchasing lowering springs instead.

Hard to say for your exact situation man. I’m happy enough with them. It’s really only the bit of noises in the front end that bother me. Based on my experience I would buy them for my kids car or a cheap project car without concern but the next car I buy (actual sports car) will get something better.

Should've went for the 2018 Passat GT VR6 it comes already with a sport suspension from factory and that wonderful VR6 music. Plus try Neuspeed for some parts.

Yeah the GTs are nice. I was on a budget and not looking for a car to mod when I bought this thing. I would actually prefer any Passat with a DSG trans for ability to hold power. Ah well. Next car will be better for modding.

@@DADMOBILE_Garage I noticed you did some other upgrades. But I haven't noticed a cold air intake. When is that coming? I did CAI, Neuspeed power module, new plugs and APR coils. Few more mods on the way. Really woke this car up.
