Solo Into Bulgaria's Unknown Past 🇧🇬
🇧🇬 Bulgaria is a land nestled between sea and mountains on the southern border of Europe. Its location made it a target for invaders, however, although subjugated for 500 years, the Bulgarians never gave up their hope to one day be free again. Join me as we make our way towards one of the greatest examples of communist architecture as we explore the hidden ancient and communist past of this friendly nation on our way to...Buzludzha..

I visited 3 times in the early 90s - I had an amazing time. Went to many places and even tough hikes over the mountains (Musala, etc). Even bought some hand-made traditional Bulgarian folk instruments from an old guy who lived in the middle of nowhere (such do I love the traditional music, and being a musician myself). And some other trad things - beautiful pottery and woved items, etc, all of which I still have to this day. Wonderful place.

Hello Mr.Bald, this video hits real close to home as I'm from Bulgaria, but I'm currently studying in the Netherlands. I wanted to say that I admire your fascination with slavic countries. Bulgaria and its people have been through hundreds of years of hardship, mainly under ottoman rule and soviet communism, but still we have upheld our values and traditions. The villages that you visited in this video are just a couple of the thousands that are currently in disrepair due to the population either aging and passing away or the youth moving to bigger cities like Sofia. I am really grateful that you are showing part of the lives of the people that live there, my grandfather is in a similar situation and it brings me joy knowing others from all around the world are getting to see this. The country is truly beautiful, if you take away the fact that it is being ravaged by corruption and political greed. Nevertheless, thanks for showing Bulgaria to the millions who watch your channel! All the best from Montana, Bulgaria. Благодаря!

The funny part is how he tells you all (and you probably believe him because you don’t know any better 😂 ) that Russia “subsidised” Bulgaria and once the “Soviet subsidies stopped”, Bulgaria fell apart.😂😂😂 I almost peed my pants laughing because Russia never subsidised anyone but itself, it sucked them dry, all the satellite countries, pillaging them to the last penny, exploiting them and calling that “importing”😂😂😂 it took everything they had at such “prices” that it totally impoverished them all beyond belief… that’s why they look today the way you see them look… 😂😂😂 I don’t know whoever told him that Russia gave anyone anything 😂😂😂 when in fact Russia took everything from everybody, from the Baltic States and Czech Republic and Poland and then to Hungary and Romania and Bulgaria and everybody else… just took and took and took for about 45 years, it just killed and pillaged the economies of these countries forever…all those countries need 100 good years to recover from the “Russian subsidies” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 This version of the Bald Guy is good enough for a standup comedian … 😂

Wow, what an incredible coincidence! My wife and I are huge fans of yours, Bald and Bankrupt, and we've watched every single one of your videos multiple times. It's mind-blowing to see you visit my wife's birthplace, Straldzha, in Bulgaria, and my birthplace, Kote, Vlore in Albania, in your recent travels. It's moments like these that make your adventures feel even more special and personal to us. Keep up the amazing work, and we'll be eagerly awaiting your next adventure! Cheers from us. Hope to meet you some day

Mr. Bald, You sir are one of, if not, my favorite content creator. Love seeing you back in the proper neck of the woods.
bulgaria is a beautifull country with very old protected woods by unesco , springwater everywhere , beautifull monastirs , Nesebar ... I went there in my youth . Very interesting ! Greetings from belgium ! Thank you again for taking us on your trip !
Ooh i was waiting for Bulgarian episode, you're gonna like it we are lovely !!
Quality content. This is brilliant
Rousse (not Rus) is not your average "provincial" town. Thanks to its location at the end of the 19the and the beginning of the 20th century it was the place where a lot of things took place for the first time in Bulgaria - first train connection was between Rousse and Varna, the first textile factory was built there, the first cinema projection took place, first printing office in Bulgaria was opened, the first steel ship in Bulgaria was built, the first private bank was established... the list goes on. Those interested can check its wiki. It was a bustling commerce and cultural centre with a lot of foreign traders living there as well. Communism is not the only thing that happened to former socialist countries, I know that's what fascinates Bold the most, but I find it a bit ridiculous how he acts all shocked and surprised when he sees that it is just a small part of their history and there's a lot more to be discovered.

Hey Bald. I know it's not as flashy but Eastern Germany has some really cool communist heritage. You could check out pretty much abandoned planning cities like Eisenhüttenstadt or so.
