Casey, towards the end of the video, that was a hand twist hammer drill bit. Hit it with a hammer, twist it and hit it again. Keep doing it till you get the depth hole you want.

One guy would hold the bit while another guy hit the end with a maul. Then he'd turn the bit, by hand, and the other guy would hit the end again. Glad to see a new video! You make me feel like I’m out there exploring. That pink dish is depression glass. I guess that doesn’t mean it wasn’t already 10 years old when it was brought out there. But that glass was put out in the early 30s.

That looks like some of what the crystal glass wear that Cambridge glass company sold. I recognized it from the etching and the color that they gave to my family we had a 18 place setting of crystal that was given to my great grand father in the 1930 because he bout so much products form them for his Restaurants Dicks Café in the med west made by Cambridge glass company it looks like a coffee or a demi toss cup (is it pink in color that is there trade mark) Thanks Casey it brings back good memories. We really enjoy watching your videos. We've learned a lot from you. Really interesting about the different types of old tin cans and glass bottles. We ramble all over Oregon mainly during warmer weather. Might run into you sometime. Camping in freezing weather isn't our thing but we enjoy watching others do it from the comfort of our home. 😀

I've been collecting bottles for years all over construction finding when the bush there's all kinds of stuff out there if you want to look one thing have something to pick through the bottles and the cans cuz you never know what you're going to run into interesting stuff enjoy your videos. 👍👍😀🇨🇦🔥

Casey I want you to know what an inspiration you are to me and probably a whole lot of other people as well. I really enjoy being in the outdoors as much as possible but sometimes life just kind of grinds you down and its in those times that one of your videos will pop into my feed. They always seem to appear at just the right time. Each one of your videos reminds me that I can enjoy myself out in nature all by myself when everyone seems to busy to accompany me on an adventure. This past year was really tough on me as I lost my best friend back in the spring to complications during a surgery. His death really hit me hard especially because we had planned out most of 2021 around various trips and excursions we were going to do together. So his death pretty much wiped out my calendar for the rest of the year and he was my best friend for quite awhile so losing him really was like a kick in the gut. I knew he was an important part of my life and I was to him as well and it just never occurred to me that he wouldn’t always be there. Losing him left a gigantic hole in my life. It may sound a bit strange but watching you out there doing what you love all by yourself reminds me of what he would want me to do. He wouldn’t want me sitting at home mourning his passing. He would want me to be out there in the woods doing the things that I love even if it meant going it alone. There will never be another person in my life just like him and that’s ok. I might meet someone that I become friends with and maybe even best friends someday. But in the meantime I shouldn’t waste what time I have because if I learned anything from his passing its that you never know when your time is up. So I want to say thank you to you Casey because your videos remind me of the times I got to spend with my best friend doing pretty much what you do in your videos. I’ll always have those memories and a few pictures we took when we remembered to take them lol. And since most of the time we were out there it was in some of the same areas you seem to frequent so the scenery reminds me of those times. But now I’m kind of rambling lol. Just know that sometimes your willingness to share your adventures makes a huge difference in the lives of people you may never get to meet. Maybe I’ll bump into you sometime while out and about in the outdoors. I know he would have liked you Casey because you remind me of him in a lot of ways. Now its 2022 and its been almost a year since I lost my best friend. I’m going to do what he would want me to do and that’s get out there and enjoy myself before its my time to go. Thank you Casey for being the friend I haven’t met yet lol I know you understand what I’m trying to say. Coyote works out. Cheers.

That rose colored glass you found is really interesting - the one that looked like a tea-cup. My mother in law collected those kinds of things - like both the rose and green colored glass-ware.

Those were some pretty cool relics. I've heard that those old flat files were made out of 1095 steel. Good for making knives and I think you are right. That was an old bit for drilling rock. All really cool stuff and awesome place. Take care and be safe.

Hey Casey, very much enjoy your videos and your excitement of finding history in remains of an old Homestead. On a much lighter note I had to chuckle at how you pronounced Stok cold brew coffee. A very nice cashier at the local Safeway who used to teach Grade School corrected my pronunciation of that brand of coffee. I too used to pronounce it "stock". She pointed out that there is a "long sign" over the O in Stok, so it's pronounced "stoke". That's our joke when I see her at Safeway.

Another method for keeping your freeze dried meal and yourself warm, is to keep it inside your parka while it rehydrates. Most good parkas/puffys have an internal mesh pocket that serves well as a good place to stow it.

Hey Casey, i came across your channel a few months ago and have spent several hrs watching and catching up on your adventures. I am retiring from the military this summer after 20 yrs. I have been stationed at Fort Lewis, WA since July 2016. Ever since i started watching your channel ive always said to myself that it would be awesome to go on one of your adventures with you but i know in this day and age that's probably not possible. Its not impossible and since you will be exiting the military soon you just never know. Down here in this area we appreciate our veterans and go out of our way to welcome them into our adventures as a way of saying thank you for your service. We all started with nothing more than a desire to enjoy the outdoors. That bit is a Star drill bit, those old files make excellent knife blades when repurposed.

I thought that's what that was. My Grandfather was a General Contractor, and I remember seeing those as a kid. He was awarded the very FIRST Building Permit ever issued in Marion County, Oregon. There is a LOT of Oregon History in my family. I'd LOVE to get a sit down with Casey sometime and exchange notes!

The small lites in the tent are off the redi lite.

Happy New Year! Those amber cork top bottles were actually Clorox, or Purex bleach bottles, circa 1930's-40's. They could have been used later for moon shine, but seeing the fancy depression glass, and boot polish, I'd say there were definitely ladies, and families in that camp.
