Solid Motor Mounts with POLYURETHANE - DOES IT WORK? (FIX/How To)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

PART 2 - New Mounts: • Motor Mounts Compariso...
In todays video we will be figuring out if Polyurethane Sealant is the ULTIMATE Motor Mount FIX. 25+ Years is a long time for Motor Mount Bushings to survive. In my case, the bushing was completely shot and popping out of the actual mount causing bad shifts, excessive motor movement, and loss of power.

Tried that in the past and it did not bind to the rubber or metal and took a life time to dry. I will try window weld next time.

If you really want to repair mounts with that stuff, you'll have to do it in stages since that kind of polyurethane isn't meant to be spread thick. Once it skins up the part that hasn't cured yet is protected by the drying skin, just as if it's still in the tube protected from drying. You'll see what I mean. I first glued my broken rubber with Loctite Stik 'n' Seal Outdoor Adhesive, let it dry 24 yours, then I gooped all that Roof and Flashing into the mount and filled it up. Who knows if it will ever fully dry this century. I'm calling it a "viscous coupling" for now.

@@RamBam84 It will probably just make your house smell. It really sits there in a gooey state for at least a week. Putting it in the oven probably wouldn't hurt, but I mean, how long could you leave it there? Three days? I did mine in the Summer and left the part in my garage where it was hot and dry, and it still took forever. What if the oven heat causes bubbling? I dunno🤔.

I tried this it worked much better than I thought it would though I didn't really read the dry time I assumed 24hr and when after 24hr still wet I went online to check and yeah needs 1 whole week.. I decided to run it like that anyways and it worked well anyhow no more play in my bushing.. Not sure how long it will last.. I may redo it again with window sealer since that take 24hr instead or just replace the bushing.. since the sealer is quite expensive as well..

What if you were to glue the mount to the car? Assuming you sand both surfaces down to the metal, would that work? It's very off topic from this but I have a free 2009 sentra that I really want to put a salvage yard rogue engine into. Essentially upgrading from the mr20de motor to the qr25de motor. Or 2.0l to the 2.5l. On paper, this is technically a sentra SE-R swap. Everything down to the mounts line up perfectly. Except for one torque mount bracket that, on the se-r, is.welded to the car before painted. It looks like it's just a bit of stamp steel cutout. So would I be better off bolting a peice of improvised metal to the car? Or is there a glue that would work just fine? It's sketch I know

I just did this to a trans mount on my a4 that was completely separated but I used loctite PL 8x polyurethane construction adhesive, from what I read online this shit will make them rock hard and it has 24h cure time. It's drying right now but I'm looking forward to the results, before it felt like my trans was gonna fly thru my floorboard.

You need 3m window weld. The hardness is not there with the product you used. You basically put caulk or RTV in your mount that's make for flexing and sealing. I've tried many methods before I went and just bought some nice mounts. You can put more power to the tire instead of flexing your engine/trans absorbing alot of the lost energy.

I will definitely be getting aftermarket mounts soon, your right though it does have a bit too much flex. Have you ever used any engine torque dampers before? I wonder how those behave under high torque

I think the loctite is the way to go for a regular daily driven economy car. I bought new mounts for my 2006 Civic and will be using the loctite to help prolong their life. Another video said loctite is 40 durameter and 3m is about 80.

  • @BoostWanted

    @BoostWanted

Heat gun would probably work, but maybe try a polyurethane that has a shorter cure time and stiffer hardness

  • @vevenaneathna

hmm 2 part polyurethane epoxy would work better coz it doesnt need oxygen to penitrate. i think the people who have success with this stuff or window weld first use brake cleaner/solvent which cracks up the prexisting rubber inside and maybe makes cracks for air to get in? not sure.

This product is awesome as a seam sealer, I use it all the time BUT is soft with a shore (duro) of A25 to 30 which is way too soft for Motor mounts or suspension bushings. You need sometime A70 to like 80 like the 3M windshield caulk.

If one mount is old and cracked they all are. Best practice is to replace (glue in your case) all motor mounts same time and the transmission mount. Most places online sell all mounts as a kit. Just sayin

Of course it doesn't feel like a new mount. It's a solid filled poly. It shouldn't feel like a new mount. You sacrifice comfort and smoothness for strength.
