Solar Trail Camera - Campark T180 TC08 - Full Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Campark sent me this Solar Trail Camera T180 TC08 in exchange for an honest review. I tested the trail camera in my garden and show videos of badgers and foxes - plus I review all aspects of this Hunting camera, explaining exactly what all the camera settings mean and the best ones to use. If you are new to Trail Cameras and want good quality images this is the review to watch.

thanks for the review I bought the TC06 but was sending it back, it had a failed IR filter, so I ordered another solar trail cam that might be manufactured by Campark but it's Voopeak brand on Amazon it will arrived in a. couple days, I am excited to use it and hope it works well, since I tried 3 different trail cams so far

Sorry to hear your new camera had a failed IR filter. I watched your video with the pink tinge. The first trail camera I bought a few years ago was also pink - I didn't understand what the problem was and by the time I took it out again the warrantee had expired so I had to just throw it away. I am a big fan of the solar cams, they really work - even with English sun! Good luck with your new camera.

Thank you - glad you found my review helpful. I have had good results from all the cameras. If I am using a very small tripod to get the camera low - then I prefer the T180 or T300 cameras as they are smaller and I really like the compact size and the tripod socket at the back means I can get very low. If I want a bit better audio and daytime quality then I’d go for the TC22 as it has a dedicated daytime lens. If I want to leave the camera out for weeks, then the cameras with back up batteries such as T180 & T300 might be more suitable - and being smaller are easier to hide. As I have said in the videos - I like each of the solar cameras. It can be a difficult decision.

Thank you for the review. I have several Camparks and other cameras. I am in the market for this camera and will check the specs. Often cameras that advertise 2k and 4k fall short on the accuracy of the frame rate and bit rate. Independent checking is needed. ( free programs online) this is often the issue for night mode especially. I have several three-sensor cameras and do not notice an appreciable improvement in trigger speed. I have turned it off when I have a narrow subject area. This is a bit of a misnomer as it is the processing buffer that dictates the beginning of capturing the image. The speed of video capture is typically 10 X the advertised photo capture speed. There may be a firmware update to fix the sound problem.

Thank you for the interesting points you’ve made. I have just loaded 20 day and night T180 clips into Premiere Pro and all are accurately showing the 30 fps. I actually modify them to 29.97 anyway to match my other cameras. So I’m happy with the recorded frame rate. I haven’t done any tests with turning off the two outside sensors but I watched a test video where someone checking it said it didn’t make any difference. I took a different camera apart and saw it wasn’t three sensors - just one sensor and three windows.

Good morning sir Paul. My name is Erik and I'm from Brazil. I really enjoyed your video, great review. In Brazil there are no trail cameras for sale officially. The import is very expensive, as it is more than 100% of the camera value. I imported a Campark TC06 from the USA, I like it, but the 10s recording delay bothers me a little. Anyway, I'm watching your videos, they are very good. 👍 👍👍 Regard's, Erik

I agree - I also want a very small delay - I'd prefer a one second it was available. Enjoy your trail camera and I'm sure you have a large variety of animals and birds waiting to be videoed!

Hi, glad you found the video useful. The pictures and video are really good and it’s my favourite camera however the audio is not very good in my opinion. Glad the review was useful. My camera is out in the woods at the moment so I can’t check but you could do with making sure that the time interval you require is available. I may be collecting it shortly so I’ll check. What sort of time between shots do you need? If the camera will be open to the sun it should keep the battery topped up easily.

I found the difference negligible (and probably non-existent) so I use 2K. This has the advantage of a smaller file size and my Windows computer using Adobe Bridge produces a thumbnail for a 2K file but not a 4K one. It slots in well with my 4K footage from other cameras and looks good on my 4K TV so I have all my supposedly 4K trail cameras set to 2K.

False positive simply means ‘something’ has triggered the camera - could be a leaf swaying in the wind or just that the sensor is too sensitive and sets itself off for no reason - and when you look at the photo or video there is nothing there. I have actually found that these cameras don’t create many false positives and so I always leave the sensitivity to high. I’m sorry you’re having problems with your first camera - did you but it direct from Campark?

Hi Paul, I have the same trail camera as you and I do agree with you its is a truely fantastic Camera. I use it for monitoring wild life in back garden, in particlular Hedgehog activity. How ever recently I was having difficulty connecting my mobile phone to Camera. I brought it in to charge up and normally when I connect it to charger it goes to screen and charges up. I am now getting a display screen that is flashing up ever 5 seconds with the view of a Stagg then the screnn goes black. Also it seems to take a picture then an hourglass symbols displays on the display screen. Im puzzled big time with this. Could you possibly shed some light on this problem I have please from Chris in Gateshead.

It does seem to have gone haywire a bit. Sounds like it’s a little confused. I once had something similar when I was too hasty in sliding that slider about. To maybe calm it down - turn it off and put it outside in the sun to charge up. Then slide the slider right over to prime it for recording. Does it start the countdown? If it does then leave it a little while and switch it off. Leave it a few minutes then slide it half way over to turn it on. Hopefully it will have reset itself. If not then see if you can get to the menu to reset it - also to format the card. That might settle it down. There’s no particular method to what I’ve just itemised but it’s the kind of thing I would do. Let me n on now what happens.

Hi Wendy, sorry to hear you’re having problems connecting on the WiFi. I haven’t come across that error message. Well done choosing this camera - I really like it and have had great results. Sorry the WiFi is causing problems. Don’t create a password - just use the default password (12345678) for the initial pairing with the phone but don’t make it a requirement in the setup to have to enter a password each time you use the WiFi. I’ve just re-read the thread with Catman. Have you followed the step by step guide I gave? Has it worked for you?

Hi Paul, thank you for the response Firstly, a very happy new year to you I have tried to follow the step by step but still not working One thing I do see that is not in the steps you describe is the message on my phone asking if I want to connect to TC08…the only options I have are Join or Cancel either of which give me the ‘failed to connect’ message I can see the camera’s Wi-Fi and my phone connects briefly and have the green bluetooth & Wi-Fi showing on the app but then the connection breaks. I’m not being asked for a password at any point My vpn on my phone keeps kicking in despite me switching it off as I thought that might be an issue (which is confusing) and my phone drops to 4g but I assume that is because of the connection to the camera The good news is the camera function works and I can view on the internal screen, i would just like to be able to do it from my phone so I don’t need to get it down each time @@paultreviews

  • @paultreviews

Hi Wendy, glad to hear the camera is working well but yes it would be convenient to get this WiFi working. It sounds like it is almost there. First try everything with your data turned off but WiFi on. Maybe your phone prefers to select the strong data (4G) signal over the weak camera wifi signal. Is there a button on the camera which shows the 'WiFi' symbol? If you press that the camera will start beaming out its own wifi signal straight away. Normally we use the Bluetooth on the camera to wake up the wifi on the camera. This just jumps passed the bluetooth step as you are waking up the camera wifi yourself. Obviously later you will want to use the Bluetooth feature so you don't need to open the camera or get it down. When you get it to connect once I am confident it will keep doing it. Hopefully the screen shows a large cross. Touch the cross so it starts beaming its wifi. Now open the phone Wifi and see if the phone detects the camera's WiFi. If it does - select it. Now go back to the camera screen and see if a green tick appears - it can take a few seconds. I find once the green tick appears the wifi will shortly be connected and live view appears on the screen. I don't know whether you need to touch the green tick but I just wait. You could go back to the phone wifi and see if the camera wifi is still selected - if not select it again. It might be an idea to try all this in an area where the phone has no external wifi signal - especially the strong wifi from your house wifi. I feel sometimes the home wifi is so strong that the phone resists selecting a relatively weak camera wifi signal. I hope that helps and gives you more ideas to get it to work. Maybe try it on someone else's phone and see what happens. I know it's very frustrating when one little cog in the procedure causes problems. A Happy New Year to you. If none of this works try using one of the other apps: GameCameraPro - Hunting 4K Pro - WILDLIFE CAM Check out this video - look at 3min 06 secs - this is how my screen looks with the 'cross' you need to select and then the green tick. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nWyG1qishcufcco.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/iJV7u8yJj5O-gqg.html

Hi Paul Thanks for the extra tips; I left the camera out for the week before bringing it back indoors to tackle the Wi-Fi connection problem I tried using GameCameraPro and saw the + symbol you mention but couldn’t get it to become a green tick I’ve tried turning off mobile data too and going down the bottom of the garden (not that is a huge garden but is quite a way away from the hub) and my phone picks up every other nearby Wi-Fi except the camera…that said, I don’t know what the camera’s Wi-Fi is called, looking at one of those videos you shared I assume it would be called Campark….something? Do you have any other tips to get the Wi-Fi to connect to my iPhone? Wondering if I have a camera with faulty Wi-Fi? Thank you. In the meantime - try re-setting to defaults - sure you’ve done that but thought I’d mention it. Second - check if there’s a ‘re-set’ hole - the type that takes a paper clip. I’ll have to check when I’m home but I would imagine this camera has one. It’s the most complete ‘re-boot’ you can do. Might help so you can re-check these PIR interval settings you’re missing. I use an iPhone. I usually start the wifi connection after having primed the camera and got my iPhone Bluetooth on. However you can try another way pressing the ‘wifi’ button on the camera to get it started without first connecting through Bluetooth. Go to your iPhone wifi and hopefully it’s picked up the camera so you can select it. Then back to the trail camera app. If the plus sign is still there select it again. Once it’s all connected a large green tick ✅ is displayed and you should then see the live view on your phone. I know you will have - but check you’re using the correct app. Campark use different ones for different cameras. Hope some of that is of use for the time-being.

HI ,i wrote from Italy. great review. I have a Ceyomur Cy95 which has an effective 4 MP optical sensor. the cy95 seems identical to the campark/voopeak subject of your review, where did you find the 8 mpx sensor optic? it is not specified by the manufacturer. Thanks for the attention.

Glad you liked my review. I went by what the manufacturer told me. I don't have a name or code for the actual sensor so can't verify myself. I also have a CY95 and really like that camera as well.

The still photos are nowhere close to the spec'd 46MP quoted here, 4-8MP is much more realistic. The trigger speed is over 1 second based on many observations of my dog running past it and some quantitative tests with a stop watch. Night sensitivity has been disappointing but I haven't precisely assessed it. Daytime sensitivity is good for anything from small birds at 3 ft to ducks at 40 ft. Otherwise the solar and wireless are great. Battery seldom gets below 80% at night even down to -10F without any AA batteries. I connect to it easily within 50 ft but would recommend about 10 ft for speed. $95 on sale is a fair price from Voopeak but $110 is more common.

@@TheCrazyunclemarty thank you for your informative post and trigger speed findings. As you say, the extremely high mp counts are interpolated - if the sensor is native 4K then I usually opt for 8mp for the stills. I have been happy with the night sensitivity but I do tend to place the camera quite close to where the animals will pass. I also have been very pleased with the solar panel and WiFi performance.

Sorry to hear it won’t show the videos. Does seem strange that the wifi has obviously connected but it won’t show you the album - have you tried emailing them as they have a technical department which responded to one of my queries.

I'm looking for a game camera that films longer than 5 minutes. Do you know of one?

That’s an interesting question. I’ve just checked my trail cameras and see they only film to 180 seconds.

Great review. I bought the cam but cannot connect to android phone. Version was TC08-220824.06 and my menu did not show WIFI SSID nor WIFI password as options. I downloaded and installed version T180-220520.06. WIFI SSID and WIFI password are now showing, but am still unable to connect to android phone. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Sorry to hear you've problem with the android phone connecting. I use an iPhone so don't know what the menus look like. Let's see if these steps help - I know you've probably done all this but worth going through it because these cameras connect for me everytime and very reliably so once you've got it sorted it should be routine from then on. Have the Bluetooth & Wi-Fi on on your phone. Open the app and press the bluetooth button. The bluetooth on your phone connects with the Bluetooth on the camera. The Bluetooth on the camera then wakes up the camera's wi-fi A large plus sign should appear on the app - press that and then go to your phone's wi-fi setting. Hopefully you'll see the camera's Wi-Fi as available - click on it to allow it to connect - hopefully the phone accepts it Go back to the app and if everything is fine a green tick will appear followed by the live view. Sometimes the large plus sign appears again - if so, click it and repeat by going to the phone's Wi-Fi settings and accepting the camera's WIFI. then go back to the app where again, hopefully the live view appears. I presume if a password was asked for then you used 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 that's the camera's default password. I hope that helps and I'm sorry I can't give specific Android help but it must be fairly similar to the iPhone settings. If that doesn't help you could email Campark and they could give the exact instructions for Android settings.

@@paultreviews Thank you for the reply Paul. I am beginning to think my wifi on cam is not working. I have tried both with IPad and android phone. No luck! Bluetooth connects but will not get wifi for some reason. Tried resetting cam numerous times but same outcome. I sent an email off to seller to see if they can help. Again, thank you!

Hopefully the manufacturer can help. There is a wifi button on the camera - try clicking that - it might not make any difference as it just bypasses the Bluetooth bit - but always worth a try.

@@paultreviews Hi Paul. There is a reset button on the TC21's near the micro sd card slot. I reset camera and was able to get the 2 of them connecting to my phone. Still having trouble with the TC08. Gonna fiddle with th 08 some more. Thanks for your replies.

Glad you’ve got those two working - it’s really frustrating when you have problems. Good luck with the TC08 - that uses a different app. Doesn’t it?

Yes, it is triggered by small birds and small animals like mice - particularly if they are close by.
