If you run your plumbing tape the opposite direction it won't peel off when you screw them together. Cool video I'm doing something similar right now. 12v auto watering system. I knew nothing about the irrigation system, solar system, batteries, nothing. It's been quite the journey piecing all of this stuff together. KZread and guys like you make it possible for anyone who is willing to put fourth the effort to do anything. That's for taking the time to make the video.

To connect two hoses of unequal internal diameter, you can use double ended hose barbs. A thorough video. Thanks for this, solved my misting project questions.

Thank you for the comment!! I did add an RV filter to help keep the misting nozzles from tying plugged. And pull the battery if you don’t use toy on the winter and put it on a trickle charger. Cheers!!!

It seems if you can charge the battery enough with that size panel, you might consider adding some LED grow lamps to get a few more hours of lighting during shorter days.

Thanks. Going to build something similar for our "Rabbit-tat." We run an animal rescue and sanctuary and it's getting pretty hot already.

really cool, I really like it great system!!!! I think I would replace the clear tube from the rain barrel to the pump with black tubing to prevent algae from growing in your tube.

That was my first thought aswell. I wonder how the clear holds up though.

From what I saw in this video no overkill but there are some things which could be done to improve the system. Since you are using rain water there could be a need to filter the water for dust, sticks, leaves, bugs, and anything else which can plug up the system. A pressure regulator could be added to the output with the pressure tank I mentioned before to regulate mist flow.

Thanks! If you decide to do something like this, I have learned to soak the spray nozzles in some vinegar every once in a while and the "hard" elements in the water gets cleaned out so they keep working well. Cheers!

I try to remember to make my box big enough to service a pretty good car battery and maybe a extra hole

You may find blockage over time. The hose to the barrel needs a filter or to be dropped into the top with a end tube filter

@@miro25BA It has held up great, I actually used it tonight for lettuce I have going now that it finally cooled off. One thing I did upgrade was a filter at the tap from the barrel and I had to replace the nozzles because I didn't properly purge the lines. I read vinegar is good to use and then unscrew the misters and soak them before storing them. The replacements were only $11 but that could have been a lot of seeds. I hope this helps, Cheers!

In my mind there is nothing wrong with over kill. I like watching your videos you always do nice work. Not trying to be nit picky but just an FYI. You applied your teflon tape on to your fittings backwards. You can watch on the first fitting you screwed together you can see the tape starts to unthread and bunch up a little. If you wrap it the other way it tightens with the fitting. I have to think about it every time I use it. I doubt it will leak. Keep up the nice work.

Hi, how would you put a timer in ? Also what one would you recommend?

Thank you for this video. Now that you have had this greenhouse for 2 or 3 growing seasons how is it holding up? Is the wood frame of the greenhouse holding up well to the moisture created by the misting system, without warp or sagging? Love your greenhouse! Converting our lean to carport to one. ?... does the bottom front of your greenhouse have wood on the outside or just the black plastic?

I didn't see if you installed an accumulator pressure tank in the output of the pump. Installing a pressure tank might improve the misting flow.

Great video! I am trying to do a solar system like yours. Where did you get the solar panel and electrical components? Was it all a kit or did you buy separate? I am trying to piece this together but having trouble knowing what to buy.

The load output of this type of charge controller is for low power devices. I'm wondering how this worked on the pump. Also I've had to put heat grease on the power transistors of all of the controllers of this type I have. Some did not contact the back plate which serves as a heatsink.

We have used this now for 2 seasons and haven't had any issue with it at all actually. Maybe I've just been lucky. I've added a filter on the barrels and have had to blow out the lines due to the immense amount of pollen in the woods, but the controller has been a champ. cheers!

hii, great edu video. what's that clicking noise at @16:00 mins ? btw, what the green house for ? how many mister this tiny pump can works with ? too little mister, will over load the pump, and too many will causing not enough pressure to come out as mist, instead as dropplet... your reply will be very much appreciated. thanks andrew

The water pump is a self priming pump and makes that noise as it's running. One key thing I ended up doing after having it for a little while was to add a filter to the water barrel to keep the lines free of debris. Cheers!

Are t you concerned about algae building up in clear lines from rain barrels?

Nice homestead! I am currently finishing my greenhouse, how did this mist system perform for you last year ? Anything you would do differently now that you ran it for a season ?

Did you replace the battery yet? I am making similar system but looking to get a small reliable 12v battery.

Vaughan after the winter I put the battery on a trickle charger I use for motorcycles as it fires right up and has been running string all summer so far

Thanks! I ended up using a battery powered flip switch timer that worked pretty good since I don’t have power out there. Here is a link to the one I used which I bought randomly at a big box store. After running that system for a while, have you had to fight mold and mildew in the greenhouse?

I haven’t really had any issues with mold or anything, but will it stand the test of time? We do try and keep it clean and organized which may help the moisture evaporate. We keep the door propped at night sometimes for pollinators and our farm cats getting the mice, country living. I think that helps reduce mold as well. I hope that’s helpful, cheers

how long will that battery run that pump before 50%?

You know that is a good question. The amount of water that pump can crank out is pretty significant and my greenhouse isn't extremely big so I usually only run it for about ten minutes, twice a day on the hottest days and the battery barely takes a hit. I would think there would be variables like whether the sun is shining time of day for recharge value that may come into play, but it has been a champ and really exceeded my expectations. I am using it this fall for lettuce and even with low light exposure, it's performing really well with this small battery. And the chickens love hanging out in there for some reason...

I want to build something like this for my A/C unit.

the panel looks like about 1.5 amps, with a 3 amp motor. Hum...

Enjoyed the pace of the video and the clean work you did. Few questions, how much did this cool down the greenhouse? I had too high temps last season and everything that did grow was very stunted.. you mention twice a day for 10 mins. I'm looking to add humidity this cooling are you using for that or more for surface watering?

Adding a misting feature will definitely add humidity to the air and it will cool it down initially but without proper ventilation the temp will spike again pretty quick. I am working on some automated fans for air circulation and am going to attempt to have the timing staggered so the misting happens after the fans so I’m not purging all the moisture. Last year I use a simple fam on an extension cord and basic timer and it worked great. Although having the wire running across the yard was an eyesore. I hope this is helpful and good luck!! ATB

@@thebizyman1 the controller is only used to direct power from the solar panel to the pump/battery. I did install a timer that attaches over the on/off switch. It works ok, but I honestly rarely ever use it.

how did that hose hold up? as far as i know that type of hose is not ideal for suction applications.

The hose has been great so far, but the spray nozzles get clogged pretty easy. If there’s no filter on the barrel output, it’s kind of a nightmare. I take them off occasionally and soak them in vinegar and have an rv filter attached and it seems to do the trick

Kevin M the on/off switch is wired between the battery and pump so the power going to the pump can be controlled.

Yes, there are light switch timers that work pretty well. I use an Autochron light switch timer that just fits over the existing traditional flip switch. You set the time, program what time it turns on/off. And that’s that. Takes 2 AA batteries that I’ve changed once after about 8 months. Think it was like $22. I hope this helps. Cheers

Dean Bigg I don’t think it should be an issue. I run mine through an RV filter that connects directly to the rain barrels and it reduces the psi a little but Am pretty sure the misting lines can take it. RV pressure regulators are super cheap too JIK.

Abe Coulter It’s actually supposed to sound that way because it’s a self priming pump. It is able to purge the air in the line and runs on cycles so it sounds like it saying “I think I can, I think I can,”, but it’s good to go.
