Solar Guitar A2.6 - Still Worth The Hype? 2 Months Later...

Now Then, YES! Is the simple answer. I love it. I play it almost daily (almost because I don't get chance to play every day at the moment). I've heard some horror stories (and seen the proof) of poor QC coming out of the factory but mine is pretty much bang on!

    I'm in the market to buy a guitar in the 600 to 800 dollar range (give or take) and I've been doing a ton of research over the last few months and the Solar A2.6 is really on the top of my list. I've never played a Solar before so I don't know if it's for me or not, but it seems to be (spec and price wise). I play mostly rock/metal and I know Solar can pull that off just fine. I'm just really indecisive of what to decide on. Aside from this guitar I've been eyeballing the Schecter C-1 Platinum, the Schecter Reaper 6, the Fender Player Strat HSS, and last but not least the PRS SE Custom 24. I cannot for the life of me make up my mind on which one to go with. Would love feedback, suggestions, or just random advice that would help me make up my mind!

    I'll be honest man, I bought mine blind, as in I didn't get to try it out or anything and love it. The neck is very nice, and yes it does the metal thing very well. Unfortunately I can't help you decide man. What I can say is reach out to any local guitar groups on Facebook or in your area and see if any one has a Solar and if you can go try one. Then you'll know. Good luck man.

  • @goliathfx

    @goliathfx

    Not sure dude, the pickups are the same. I would take it to a tech and make sure its set up correctly, string height, action, neck relief, pickup height etc can all make a difference.

  • @wheelsdeal

    @wheelsdeal

    The A1.6FRC is an alder body while the V2.6 is mahogany so quite the difference there.You need to change settings on your amp while rotating guitars,mahogany is warmer,darker with more bass so keeping the same settings you had on the A1.6FRC might justify the muffled sound.Try cutting the bass and bring the treble up...

    I just received a A2. C lefty. Lefties don't have much choice. I was really disapointed. The slot where the 5 way switch is was jagged and not acceptable as far as QC is concerned. It struck me as a low end Epiphone or squire. In fact their QC is better than solar. I was so hyped to get this guitar, but now all I want to do is return it, and get another schecter. These are overrated. I wanted one so bad, but was so let down. Just like Chapman. At least the VP and guitar center paid for the Chapman. What ever happened to Ola checking each batch. Another brand swirling the drain. What a disappointment.

    @@goliathfx I will definitely be the first to purchase another if they come out with a high end lefty. It can be so frustrating as a lefty. You see so many guitars you can't have. My problem is that I play lefty strung right. If I buy a lefty I have to take it to my guitar guy, and have the nut and strings swapped. Now to add insult to injury any lefty guitar with the slanted bridge (basically all gibsons and a lot of others) can't be swapped to be strung right because the low E string would be where the bridge slants up so there is not enough room to set the intonation correctly. So its even more of a problem for me. I would kill for a lefty Gibson Explorer, or SG. I have a Chapman explorer, but its not even close.

    I'm not paid or endorsed by Solar or anything, but I would like to see a $400 guitar with stainless steel frets and Evertune bridge. Have a link to such a guitar? As the most expensive Solars retail for $1400 and come with those specs (which is for an 8 string, comparable 6 string is around $1200) the closest comparable guitar I can find for that spec (which is remarkably similar) is the ESP Ltd H-1008 that retailed for $2170. So my question is this, are you commenting on a lower end Solar or the more expensive end or your own? From my experience with this model, I have a ESP MH401QM (I use it in a few videos here and there) and that retailed for $1250 new, the Solar plays better. I have a cheap ($620) ESP Ltd EC257, this plays better. Have you compared your Solar? If so I honestly would love to hear your feedback. If you've come here basing an opinion on what you've read online etc then I urge you to try one out. I've seen loads of QC issues and I think it's not cool that these people are getting such bad condition instruments etc. I got mine a while ago and its pretty much perfect except a small amount of lacquer peel. I really do hope Ola and Solar turn it around as the guitars are freaking lovely to play. Cheers.

    Hey Fazli, thanks man. I think Solar are getting a lot of hate at the moment, lots of QC issues and people being jealous of the amount of artists they are taking on but I don't think most of these people are actually getting their hands on the instruments and giving them ago. Yeah the fretboard issue is a big problem and needs addressing ( which I think Solar are doing) but they are great tools to be played. I need to get hold of a bass to try.
