Solar Eclipse Totality in Cornwall, Ontario April 8, 2024
Ғылым және технология
I drove about an hour south from Ottawa today to Cornwall Ontario to see totality of the lunar eclipse of the Sun. Totality lasted 2 minutes in my location, and the whole thing lasted 2 hours and 24 minutes.
It was awe inspiring, life-changing, and very emotional and profound to experience it. Totally different from even a 99% partial eclipse. I may have to add eclipse chasing to my hurricane and tornado storm chasing!!
It was really freaky. The birds all went quiet, it got much darker than I expected, and the temperature dropped 2 to 3 C in minutes, taking almost an hour to recover. During the darkness, scanning 360 degrees it looked like sunset on every horizon.
I took some Cineplex 3D plastic glasses, removed the polarizer lenses, and used electrical tape to attach my paper solar eclipse glasses to the durable frames. Worked a charm.
Newton was freaked out by my glasses and the eclipse, but loved chasing the stick I threw far out into the St. Lawrence River. He almost pulled me into the river once, when he spotted some Canada Geese swimming. It was totally unexpected, since I had the eclipse glasses on and was captivated by the celestial spectacle.
I was relieved when the Sun came back, since I had envisioned global chaos within hours, agriculture failure within days, and oceans freezing over within weeks to months, not to mention a possible Zombie Apoc-Elipse, if the Sun had not reappeared.
Sincerely,
Paul

We got eerily dim in Wisconsin.
Thanks Paul - you rock.
Beautiful! It was so cloudy in Toronto. Nicely captured!
Fantastic, yeah, all your videos I know you’re in Ontario and I didn’t put two into together to realize that you were probably either in or near the path of totality. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. From Calgary
Verry well done! good job recording the video! We were there it was amazing site!
Wow, big difference between Ottawa and Cornwall or Kingston. Wish I would have made the drive, although we enjoyed it here as well.
A few minutes prior to totality our abundant birds became very vocal then complete quiet upon totality yet birds are quiet in the dark. Thanks Paul glad you your family enjoyed it.

We had the same thing happen with an incredible number of of crows in our backyard trees. They were yacking it up and they went completely quiet at the peak, even though we were only 98% and it was not dark. Then they quietly flew away in groups.

@@plantbasedsenior4240 You described it well. I feel a responsibility to feed all comers as we humans have destroyed most native food sources. Having abundant song birds it seemed chiefly the black birds, redwings, bluejays and grackles that were chattering. You're right they all flew away. Wish we could fly back to more pristine times. Be Well
Sadly it was overcast by me. Though it was fun to watch it turn in to night time for a short while.
Good job on Sacrificing that goat in Cornwall to get the sun to come back!😊
How did Newton react?
I experienced 86% totality in Wisconsin. It doesn't take much, eh?
Could you spin a little faster next time 😆
Astronomical...
I'm so glad I don't care about witnessing anything other than the projectionist in the booth witnessing me, witness a projection they facilitate, and while I paid to watch this projection, mind you, the projectionist having seen my paid for projection already has begun witnessing his own self inflicted narrative projection as reality as I witness reality being replicated in the form of a movie. ❤
Hey Paul I’ve noticed your posting a lot lately. I think you are frightened of impending doom. Give it to us straight. Tell us your deepest fear. We can take it we’re all adults. What’s in the cards in the next year or two. Famine? War? Mass migration? Guy McPherson is posting his predictions again and it doesn’t look good at all.

Paul, frightened? I think it's the most concurrently climate science knowledgeable AND zen guy I'm following. We're not frightened, we're sad.
