Ryan Martinie is one of my favourite bassists of all time alongside Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and a few others. I'm so happy that we get to hear every note he plays in Soften the Glare. I love Mudvayne, but Ryan's incredible bass playing on Mudvayne often gets squashed between the wall-of-sound guitar mix and kick drums. Here, it's all crystal clear in all of its glory. The rest of the band is amazing too. Long live Soften the Glare! ❤
Ryan has his own voice through bass, it's insane. You can hear him clearly on any project he's worked on.

Meets Mudvayne
I had no idea Ryan had another band. Jesus Christ, this makes my damn day.
Music is an intimate bond created from giving yourself over to you instrument, and furthermore letting it not take control of you, but rather letting it guide your expressiveness and creativity, so it can create for you something wonderful. Sharing this kind of bond with like minded people is about the most beautiful thing you can do with your life in my opinion. Music is a magic anyone can obtain with enough effort, and it becomes downright profound when you use this magic with others.
Full on jazz fusion. Love it. I always new Martinie was a jazz player at heart.
This song has been stuck in my head for the past week, love it.
My dad actually met Ryan when he was with Mudvayne. He said it was the best thing that's ever happened to him. Chad was a dick, but Ryan actually wanted to hang out with my dad. And so, my dad actually quit playing the bass when he heard Mudvayne, cause Ryan is the mother fuckin best bass player in the world, and Ryan was so distraught! He was like, "No! I didn't want you to quit! That wasn't my intention!" and my dad was like, "After I heard you play, I knew I couldn't be up to par with you. You're so talented and amazing." Mortal of the story, my dad is a dumbass for quitting playing the bass cause he thought he was horrible compared to Ryan. (Which he really wasn't) But yes, he met Ryan and I really want to meet him one of these days. Also, he's the one who gave me the link to this video when it first came out.
