SOFT VS HARD plastic lures - SIB fishing in wild winter conditions

Спорт

Every angler swears by one lure, the one that catches them more and better fish than any other. I wanted to put some of my favourites to the test in a mini face off to see which would reign superior.
As I left the shelter of the estuary I was greeted by howling winds and crashing waves, a site no angler wants as they embark on a day's fishing. I knew the sea handling capabilities of my 3.7m SIB would safely see me to more sheltered waters. It certainly wouldn't be a dry ride but quite a bit of fun skipping along the wave tops. The shallows were teaming with school bass falling to all manors of shallow diving hard plastics, surface lures, jigs and paddle tails. The average stamp of fish was rather underwhelming for December a time when I don't expect to catch a lot but the chance of a donkey is always there. I did find a few better fish residing in the shallowest parts of the reef which really surprised me for the time of year... Then again sea temperature is slightly higher than usual for the area. The weather was certainly challenging and kept me on my toes all day but I was rewarded with fish and the joy of spending a day at sea.

Great vid Oban, going to try those paddle tails soon. Might be an idea to land your Bass into the chilly bin or a rubble bucket, save the spines popping the deck / tubes..

Wow...to think i was toying with buying a ruddy kayak.? The SIB takes those rollers in their stride as seen here.I don't suppose they're immune to a freak swamping and by definition there cant be a drainage mechanism in place other than a stout bailer bucket...but l would rate my overall survival chances with a sib thsn a kayak.Really fancying a Rydal green number myself but this featured boat is a bobby dazzler for sure.

I’ve fished from a SIB comfortably in conditions I wouldn’t dream of taking a kayak in. Usually there is a one way drainage valve at the transom of a SIB so they are able to auto bail small volumes of water, not like a kayak that can be clear it’s decks almost instantly.

I think I need a SIB! Getting nothing shoreside there. I know it’s a bit cold but I’ve seen baitfish about so the food’s there still.

How did the airdeck feel? I've seen someone else's video showing loads of flex in the floor as it was barely inflated. Does your airdeck feel pretty solid when inflated properly? I'm looking at the Hydrus v4 370. Thanks

@@obanonthewater7796 thanks Oban. I subsequently watched your set up video and see you walking around. The manufacturer actually reached out to the other YTer as he wasn't inflating the boat properly. Anyway, I went with a Excel Volante 360 in the end. Seemed like a higher quality product, especially with the transom and bonding of - supporting junior towables.
