Thank you for a nice company to my knitting. I loved the books about Anne of Green Gables when I was a child. I have been to Auschwitz three times, travelling with my kids and their school classes. I don't manage to read books about that place. It's so horribel. I'm so happy that this podcast is running again. I have missed it a lot.

Thank you Merete, it's lovely to be back! Etty's book is not about Auschwitz, it's written before she was deported there and it's more about her personal and spiritual growth and how she finds her way to God and prayer. How she copes in a dark world, by being light, by spreading light, by having hope and faith. But I can really understand what you mean!

What a beautiful episode. Madeleine is an extraordinary young woman, and Sofia's wisdom and serenity makes their friendship a true search for meaning. Such a privilege to be able to share this encounter.

I read Viktor Frankl's "Mans Search for Meaning" and wrote a paper about it while in college so long ago. I'd love to read Etty Hillesum's book now. My brother, Michael, knows a tremendous amount about the Holocaust and has dined with and interviewed numerous survivors. A beautiful episode. Thank you.

Dear Sofia, my heart sings. I can relate in so many ways to this episode. I had to laugh because I was recently asked if I wasn't sad or angry to get the torn knitwear from my grandkids back for darning. I didn't understand the question at first. I am so happy that they love to wear my knitted garments so much. It shows signs of wear but they are signs of love. Happy to have such knitworthy grandkids who wear their garments with joy and even order the next knitted garments including their special wishes. 😀 My favorite quote from Etty Hillesum is this: Ultimately, we have just one moral duty: to reclaim large areas of peace in ourselves, more and more peace, and to reflect it towards others. And the more peace there is in us, the more peace there will be in our troubled world. ❤

Madeline is a beautiful deep thinking person who has a beautiful gift, the gift of compassion. Your parents are so blessed to have given you an education and life skills to live a garmonious life of kindness. A blessing to your father's memory also. Andrea is a beautiful role model.

In my experience I came to believe, that when one is searching for something, like the meaning of life, it is a hopeless thing to do, and places the "meaning", the "purpose" of life on the "outside" of man himself. I came to realize, that it is not a search, that we are not suppose to be searching, but to actively GIVE life a meaning. We are suppose to give it purpose. It comes from our inside, it is not on the outside, on the manifested world. Remember, that the Bibel say, that the Kingdom of Heaven is inside of us. Much love and blessings.

This is my first time watching your podcast, Sofia.I live in Maine and found you through Fibertrek. I also love Fruity Knitting and Knit My Way Home. I too, love to knit mittens so am looking forward to purchasing one of your Ravelry patterns. Your wedding sounds lovely. I wish you so much happiness. ❤

I am watching this in the midst of the terrible news coming out of Gaza. Listening to you and Madeleine talk about the books and how to navigate the suffering in life gave me some peace and some hope. It was a very touching beautiful episode, and I had tears in my eyes too, because we all remember Andrew, and what a loss it has been to Andrea and Madeleine. Tak Sofia.

Such a wonderful and meaningful episode! I live with seven chronic illnesses along with a degenerative neurological disease. I ponder these questions and strive constantly for meaning in an ever shrinking life involving constant grieving of loss of ability. I strive to find the joy in life and I have found too that doing for others is a big part of this no matter your circumstances. For me at present I'm fortunate to be able to still create and make for those in my life (and those who may be strangers experiencing difficultly) and hopefully show them the love and joy they bring to me that I can return in this small way. I'll definitely be adding these books to my reading list. ❤

But I have the best costumer talk when they open up a little bit more and I can introduce them some ˋhidden gems‘. I am right now in 🇩🇰 on my vacation and I have just some of my own books with me, books I wanted to read for a long time. Reading and knitting 🧶 is a very good option for this weather 💨 here. I d love to see a video of you literally doing the mending. I learn by watching. I agree with the sentiments about the value of wearing clothing knitted by, worn by, and mended by loved ones. Imbues meaning and spirit into the prayers of the maker of the object. Love the books discussion, a little too heavy for me today but needed to be said. I Enjoyed your talk about mending! I have always mended my woolens, using invisible mends when possible. I have mended things for friends and family. Some people don't seem to even know that things can be mended! I do my mending in spring, before I wash my woolen things and put them away for summer.

A beautiful, authentic and deep conversation. In our current world authenticity can be hard to find and is so important. So much truth in the idea if we the choose path of bitterness it is hard to find the meaning of life.. Yes grief is the price we pay for love, but also when someone we love passes, I feel they move into a special part within our heart, they live within us in way that cannot be when alive. It doesn't have the warmth or embodiment of physical life on earth, their being lives within us on a more spiritual level and enlarges who we are in the physical world. Thankyou.

A magnificent episode filled with deep thinking and conversation. I love mending something I’ve made and either kept myself or given to a loved one. My 6 year old grandson loves socks that I’ve knit for him and, 😂when needed, he asks me to fix them. I feel that mending them is just another way of showing him how much I respect and love him and inspires me to make more things for him. The conversation about the two books you both read resonated deeply for me as my father’s family suffered heavy losses in the concentration camps. My father and his few surviving relatives did come out of that hell with hope for rebuilding meaningful lives which they actually did! I have learned so much from them. It is very inspiring to listen to people who have overcome the pain of bitter times with hope and grace in tact. Madeleine is an extraordinary young woman in her own right as well as in tribute to her amazing parents, Andrea and Andrew. Honestly, I wished I could have reached into the screen and hugged both of you. I have read Frankel, but will search for the book you spoke about and read it as well. A heartfelt thank you for sharing this deeply personal conversation.❤
