Great video Chris. I am so happy to be part of it as well. I will just add that Airbnb is kinda expensive. For the people who are planning to stay longer, I would say that I live in a studio apartment and my rent is 450 leva (around 270 USD) for the whole month. If some of you guys have any questions about Bulgaria feel free to ask. I would love to answer all of them :) P.S=> The Pulse fitness membership is around 50 leva (30 USD) per month with a year subscription. Peace

Hi Vlad! Could you please advise me good (and affordable) places to eat in Sofia? I am vegetarian and eat mainly fish, vegetables, etc. I also like pizza, but not everyday. A veggie burger is also good. Locals always know the best options. Could you also advise me a good bookstore? I am a book worm as well. Благодаря! Мерси!

Castorp Z. That's about $1000 per month, which is about $12,000 per year. That's bd?? Any short-term rental (airbnb, hotels) are going to cost MORE for 365 nights compared to if you actually paid monthly rent. Meaning, this place might cost $8-10k per year if owned it (or less)

Travis Transient Visiting the Balkans without visiting Bulgaria is laughable. Balkans take their name from Bulgaria, the Balkan mountain range in the country. Bulgaria also is the most developed country in the Balkan peninsula and the one that started it all, its the oldest country in Europe, never changed its name and culture for almost 1400 years. Bulgaria created the cyrillic alphabet, we gave language to all of the other Slavic countries. Russian for example is just a version of Bulgarian,. Russia is a much newer country than Bulgaria

Agreed Chris, Sofia is a great city to stay in as a digital nomad! I was there in July for the month with Remote Year working out of SOHO. Kind of funny, before I started my "digital nomad" life I was following your vlogs and here I am currently in Chiang Mai for a month and I was in eastern Europe before Asia. Stoked I'm finally in Chiang Mai ... loving it here! While I was in Sofia I did a 4 day motorcycle road trip around Bulgaria and it was a beautiful trip. Working on my video for it right now. I'll send it your way when I'm done. Great overview of Sofia! Cheers.

Awesome review of Sofia, having been there many times I agree with all of this! And thanks for mentioning Varna and the group, much appreciated. I will add in though that you can also get a 10 ride pass for the metro which drops the price per ride from 1.60BGN to 1.20BGN. Pass can even be used by two or more people. Cheers!

Hey Idan as far as my research shows there doesn't seem to be a ferry. However there are flights and buses that make the journey. Of two options I suggest taking a flight because from what I have heard from friends the roads in the northern Romania/southern Ukraine can get quite bumpy. Here is the link to Skyscanner with flight info Varna-Odessa: bit.ly/2uzlmHL

Bulgaria isnt Eastern Europe. Culture is pretty different than Eastern Europe which is - Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, Romania and so on. Bulgaria is in Southern Europe and has a way different culture than Russia or Poland. Its a warm country, more popular for its beaches and nice weather , summer season is from April till October. Stop comparing Bulgaria to Eastern Europe, visit Russia and then you will see the difference in everything. Only similarity is the brutalist apartment tower blocks. Nothing else is similar, Bulgarian culture is more similar to Italian than Eastern Europe.

Poland is not eastern europe. It's exactly centre of europe. It's central europe. There is a big difference between Poland and eastern european countries like Russia or Bulgaria. Citizens of Poland, Hungary, Czechia or Slovakia are useing latin alphabet, police and other unit's are not corrupted like in Ukraine or Bulgaria. Central european countries are more developed, people respect the law there, streets are clean, no bumps on roads etc. Bulgaria is actually very similar to Russia, filthy blocks, no one cares about anything. Good luck slavic brother, I wish Bulgaria to make progress too

+browarman you obviously never been a lot to Poland as well cuz u described it as Germany witch is not. I have been last year and it is a bit cleaner but still plenty of bad roads plenty of not nice buildings and also there is corruption plenty as well. You don't respect the separation of the state powers and the Montesquieu principals shown in recent events of your government. So please don't act like typical arrogant pole look good at yourself and dot look down at the less developed states of Europe cuz you are not that far.

  • @RositsaPetrovarjp7

@@browarman no it is not. if Poland is in the centre of Europe, doubtful, then Bulgaria is too. Warsaw is to the east of Sofia! For me Poles are, exactly like Russians, full of themselves, rude, etc. And Polish language is very similar to Russian. Polish and Russians understand each other comfortably. Bulgarians understand Russian only if they study it. Poles are Slavs. Bulgarians are not.
