“Mannequins making friends with Mutable Instruments”
Performed live on a modular synthesizer.
Just Friends and Three Sisters arrived this week and brought life to the melody voice in this patch. Whimsical Raps makes some seriously amazing modules.

Lovely patch! Looks like you are enjoying Three Sisters! Just Friends looks insane. Love the stereo effects here as well.

Thanks man. Totally loving the Mannequins modules. For my compact system, Sisters seems to give me more latitude. And yeah, the stereo stuff is the Boss DD-5. I owned that thing for 15 years before ever using the stereo panning outs!
those patch notes are amazing

I don't know what's more beautiful, the cable management for this intense patch or the music it makes XD
Dude this is amazing. Also your patch notes put the rest of us KZread noodlers to shame. Great stuff!

Haha. Thanks man. Yeah, it seriously takes me an hour to write up notes on a patch like this. But it's all part of my learning process. Because by the time I finish a patch, I totally forget how I ever got there. So I reverse engineer breadcrumbs back to the starting point... sorta. And it helps me see the patterns developing in my approach.

thanks for keeping this older stuff up! It’s wonderful
Absolutely beautiful patch! Also loving your choice of colors for the Black Market Modular cables - might have to get myself some pink ones. The lime green have been my favorite so far.

Subscribing! Very nice, interesting sounds and VERY musical! Bravo! I am progressive rock guy, very keyboard orientated, but I just got a modular based mostly on MakeNoise and Doepher modules to explore out side the box. I really appreciate the detailed patch notes!!

Thank you for the support! My only release at this point is 'All Creatures Festival' (check it out on Bandcamp and my new KZread channel, Lightbath). I do have plans to include Social Contours on a future release along with Orange is the New and Supermoon Preparation (which is currently only on Vimeo). I'll probably post it at some point on my new channel, so subscribe there if you haven't already. That's where all future videos will be posted. And lastly, I invite you to sign up for email updates to be notified about my next release: eepurl.com/ctUYC1

Bryan Noll oh thats really nice! Felt that i couldnt get the same results really, so got a Quadnic for more control over chords. Is that just one cv in making those chords? Really beautiful
@fourhexagons
7 жыл бұрын
+motoboy6666 well, yeah the chords in Rings are quite limited to its architecture. You just have to change the v/oct as you carefully modulate/index Structure to get chord changes. But that's not what I'm doing on this patch. The chords are from a Yarns arpeggiator controlled by the QuNexus.
the tones you are getting are super ! are you satisfied with rene workflow for a sequencer? there are so many options it's hard to pick one...
@fourhexagons
6 жыл бұрын
I love Rene, but these days I've been going super-deep with the Monome ecosystem.
This one may be my favorite of your pieces. I also really enjoy the XAOC/Rings video, even if that was more of an exercise/demonstration. Were you clocking the DD5 with CV from the modular? I'm looking to get a fairly inexpensive delay pedal that will be useful for my guitar work and modular work, and if I could send clock pulses into the pedal in lieu of a tap switch that would be great. Things I've read online have given me mixed perspectives.
@fourhexagons
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No clocking of the pedal. All manually adjusted. But that's a good idea to try and sync it. I've got my hands full right now preparing for an upcoming show, but at some point I'll try that out. It's a great pedal and I'd totally recommend it. I have it modified by Analogman to cut out the dry signal with a switch and also cut the high frequencies with another.

Got one in the mail today and can confirm syncing with clock from my modular. No attenuation or anything needed with mine, just mult-ed straight from meadowhphysics. And thanks for the tip on the analogman mod, that seems like it takes what's already a great pedal to the next level. Best of luck prepping for your show! (loved your newest vid by the way)
What cables are those? Love the pink and blue
@fourhexagons
8 жыл бұрын
+Jan Nemeček Yeah, me too. Black Market Modular. I absolutely love them. They're small, firm, priced well, and I love the color options. I did a bunch of research on cables and made a chart that compared price, length, color, features, quality, etc of all the popular (and some of the less popular options out there currently). In the end, Black Market won for me. You can view the chart here: bit.ly/eurorack-cable-comparison and there's a link to the forum thread on the bottom of the spreadsheet.
Hey man this is inspiring stuff im finding my way at the minute with the system i want to piece together into the same size, can i ask how you are outputting the signal, directly into external mixer? or summing internal mixer. thanks in advance, i will definitely subscribe and look forward to hearing more
@fourhexagons
7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I've found that with a system this size, it's difficult to dedicate hp to an internal mixer. I often find myself wanting more functionality inside of the case, and therefore I end up using some sort of external mixer solution. When I make these pieces, I tend to send 8 individual outs from the case (using Control's awesome new 1/8" to 1/4" branded cables) and run them into my 8-in/8-out audio interface. I then process and mix the channels in Ableton Live. This makes it easy to multitrack when I record and to apply any desired compression/eq/effects.

Ah, sure. RME Fireface UCX. Love that little thing. I've used RME interfaces for the past 10 years and they're really solid, both in manufacturing and in terms of stable drivers.
Besides the performance I like the tattoo and excess of patching cables
May I ask what video camera you used to shoot this? It's incredible!

sounds great. where did you get that stand for your case, if you don't mind me asking?
@fourhexagons
8 жыл бұрын
+Remy Marc Thanks. And ha, you're not the first to ask about the stand. I wonder if I should make a video demonstrating it. Whatever the case, it's a laptop stand I bought years go by a company called Crane. The model is now called the 'Classic Stand' because they've since updated their product line with a few other variations. It's super solid and it won't budge a bit when you push on the case. I had to invert it from the 'normal' configuration they show in the product photos for laptops. But that's what is cool about it, the fact that you can set up different angles and ways of tilting it. The only drawback is that it extends back really far, so you need lots of table space to accommodate.

+Bryan Noll thanks for the quick reply! looking it up now, but you should definitely do a short video if its a popular question!

Oh, thank you for your interest, Theo. It's always great to hear those sort of words of encouragement. I don't have any releases at the moment, but have loose plans to collect bits of these pieces and edit together some sort of larger statement. Not sure when that will actually happen, though. I'm still in the practicing and learning phase with all this stuff. You can sign up for email updates if you'd like to be notified if/when I actually release something: eepurl.com/bKNM0X. At this point, it's not a newsletter or anything, just a list of people who've expressed interest in a release.
