My advice man. Watch a Stanley Cup playoffs in it's entirety. It's the only way to truly understand what these goals mean. Highlights and video games can only convey so much, but if you watched a full 16 bracket Stanley Cup playoffs you would truly get why people lose their freaking minds over these goals.

here’s some context for you on each goal: 0:34 Nathan Mackinnon scores an incredible goal to put the Avs up 4-3 in the dying minutes of game 5 in the second round. (the avs actually lost this game, but not a big deal considering they won the cup lol) 1:08 Auston Matthews’ scores his 60th goal of the year, an accomplishment that only very few have been able to achieve, and the first Maple Leaf (One of the most storied franchises) ever to get 60 goals in a season 1:36 Same series as the first one, a goal with 5 seconds left that sent the Avalanche to the WCF in their cup run 2:03 Sharks win the series in game 7 OT after being down by 3 with 10 minutes left in the third. 2:22 Capitals score in OT to finally end their second round drought and take out the back-to-back stanley cup championship pittsburgh penguins team 2:48 An OT winner in game 7 to send the rangers to the second round for the first time in 5 years 3:08 Tied the Stanley Cup Finals series in OT which the blues would eventually go on to win in 7 games 3:27 An OT winner in game 7 to send the Rangers to the 2nd round vs the capitals in a series where the rangers were a minute away from being eliminated in 5 games. 4:00 recognized as one of the best goals of all time, a game winner and just an absolutely incredible goal by rick nash. 4:24 A game 7 game winner to send the Flames to the 2nd round 4:48 A Stanley Cup clinching goal in 2OT in front of their home crowd. as a ranger fan i hate this goal but it’s definitely one of the most electrifying goals ever 5:17 A game tying goal in a game that the Islanders would eventually win in OT to win their first playoff series in 23 years 5:50 A series winner in game 7 that sent the Stars to the Western Conference Final but they would lose in the Stanley Cup Final 6:20 The cup clinching goal for the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Final 6:40 A not only big but beautiful goal by subban (a defensemen) that put the Canadiens up 2-0 early in an important game 3 7:05 An OT winner to force a game 7 in tampa after it appeared the Islanders had no hope after losing by 8 goals the game before, but the Islanders would lose Game 7, also the last goal scored for the Isles in this stadium 7:40 A crazy ankle breaker goal by mackinnon that got the crowd hyped in game 2 of the first round of the playofffs 8:43 A huge 4 on 4 goal that gave the Leafs a 3-2 lead in the third period of the game and series but unfortunately they went on to lose the series 9:03 An OT winner that got the wild back into the series after being down in the series 2-0 9:32 A series winner in 2OT that sent the Penguins to the Cup finals where they would win the championship 9:52 A game 7 OT series winner for the Canucks to send them to the second round and kickstart their run to the finals 10:22 A big goal that put the Rangers up by 2 and concluded a dominant, nearly 2 minute offensive zone shift that had the crowd hyped in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals 10:43 A game 7 OT series winner in round 1 for the Wild 11:10 An OT winner that tied the series for the Blue Jackets who were in pursuit of their first playoff series win ever

It was Reilly Smith's goal which was the 4th goal for us in game 5 in which we ended up winning 9-3.

2:29 the reason the announcer was so excited was because that was the first time in the Alexander Ovechkin era that the Washington Capitals made it past the second round. They had struggled in the playoffs for 14 years and many playoff runs before they did that and it was a historic moment for Ovechkin’s career

The Washington capitals goal the announcer went nuts for was after years of not getting past the second round, that was the goal that put them through. The islanders one is the same thing. John tavares breaks the islanders' curse and get their first series win in a bunch of years. I ronically he just did the same thing with the leafs this past season. Austin matthews goal was the one that got him to 60 in the season. These goals were all definitely goosebumpy goals

For some context on the LA Kings goal at 4:50, it was game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals when Alec Martinez scored his goal. The game was in 2 OT which means that the first 20 minute OT had already been played and they were in the second 20 minute OT. That’s when Martinez scored his goal, winning the Kings their second cup. They had previously won the cup in 2012.

There are cameras pointed at the net from outside and inside the net as well. Every NHL game is monitored at the Canadian league headquarters in Toronto. They work in a special tech office called the “War Room” which has access to every conceivable camera angle in the arenas, so if an on-ice official in a game has missed a good goal, then the office in Toronto can call in to the officials at the game and stop play so the goal can be counted and play reset up to that point.

  • @ElliotAsbed

Ok so just some context on a couple: The Kuznetsov goal for the Capitals where the announcer is freaking out was the Capitals FINALLY beating the Penguins in the 2nd round to advance to the Eastern conference finals. They had previously lost in the same round to the same team in 2016 and 2017, in addition to the same happening in 2009. The caps had lost the last 7 consecutive postseason series they played against Pittsburgh dating back to 1995. They went on to win the Stanley cup. The Kings goal by Alec Martinez was scored in double overtime (i.e., they already played an entire 20 minute overtime with no winner, this is OT2) of game 5 of the Stanley cup final and won the Stanley cup for LA. Just a general tip for hockey clips, (no disrespect I just think you'd appreciate what you're seeing more.) If you take just a brief second and pause as the clip starts, the scoreboard in the corner of the screen has all the info you need. If you look, most of these are with seconds remaining in close games, in overtime, or in a pivotal playoff moment. NHL series are best of 7 games, so for example in the LA Kings vs NY Rangers clip, the top bar shows 2OT next to the clock, and says "cup final, LA leads 3-1" meaning they are up 3 games to 1 in the series and win the best of 7 if they win the game. So just do a quick pause and scoreboard scan before watching the clip and you'll understand the context a lot easier.

For the Calgary flames goal (near post shot you gave ottienger a hard time for) Ottienger held a .950 save percentage for the whole series taking a heavily favourite Calgary side to 7, Calgary on the other hand had their provincial rivals waiting for them in round two and they wanted to see the battle of Alberta. So this game was tense and went double Overtime and went past midnight. And how I know all this is because I stayed up and watched and was sweating from the tension.

For easier context while you're watching I would suggest two things. 1.Take a glance at the scoreboard at the beginning of the clip. It will tell you what period the goal happened (Overtime, late in the 3rd, etc.) and it will also have a "Stanley Cup Playoffs" logo beside it which means it's a big game. 2. Listen to the commentary. In big moments, they will often say in some way or another, what is going on. The LA Kings clip that happened while you were asking for us to give you context was the Stanley Cup winning goal and the commentator said so initially. Love the videos! Keep it up man, you're hilarious!

The one with the crazy announcer saying "The demons have been exorcized!" is the goal that got the Washington Capitals past the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time in quite a while. They also got to the 3rd round of the playoffs (the Conference Final) for the first time in a long time. The announcer you heard is the radio announcer for the Caps. After the Caps won that series, they went on to win the Stanley Cup.

That was the most important goal in Capitals history. It was a game seven overtime winner against Pittsburgh, a team that has knocked the Caps out of the playoffs over and over and over in crushing fashion. That was among the most cathartic goals in hockey history in context. It put them in the conference finals where they beat Tampa then won the cup against Vegas in the finals for the only title in franchise history.

The Joel Kiviranta story in game 7 against the Avalanche during 2020 playoffs was quite amazing: Andrew Cogliano got hurt and couldn't play, Bowness pulls an ace out of his sleeve, and how about that, Kiviranta responds to the trust by scoring a hat trick and the game winner comes in overtime 😁👍

And the Kuznetsov OT series winner against the Penguins in 2018 called by the Capitals radio announcer John Walton was significant, because - it was the first time since 1998 that the Capitals advanced to the conference finals - Penguins had won the two previous series against the Capitals, and overall it was the Capitals' first series win over the Penguins since 1994.

5:10 In hockey, playoffs are "Best of 7" meaning first to 4 wins wins the bracket and moves on to play against the next team. Here it was the FINALS (Kings were up 3-1), game was tied and went to overtime, during overtime the first team to score wins the game. This goal was the last one needed for the Kings to win the Stanley cup, there's nothing more intense than this other than a 3-3 series going to overtime on the last game.

  • @Jrock2339

For the Islanders goals context. 1. John Tavares scoring the tying goal late to force overtime in an eventual win for NY that was the Islanders first playoff series win in 23 years (I'm surprised that they didn't include his game winner in the video as well) 2. Anthony Beauvillier scored the game winner in overtime of game 6the Eastern Conference Finals to force game 7 in Tampa. Islanders were down 2-0 earlier in the game and this would be their last game in Nassau Coliseum (loudest building in hockey) before moving to UBS Arena. If I may, in your free time, I would highly recommend watching "Fort Neverlose" here on KZread. It's a great, fairly short documentary on arguably the greatest hockey team of all time. It talks about the NY Islanders Cup runs from 1979-80 to 1982-83. They are the last team in hockey, and American profession sports, to win four straight championships and still hold the record for most consecutive playoff series wins at 19.

When they "deke" the goalie and slide it in far side.. That's a "Deked him outta his jock strap". When you see the gloves go flying and the whole team comes piling on it's an Over Time winner. When the pass comes and it's immediately recieved and fired at the very same time; it's a "One Timer".. typically a snapshot or slapshot Nathan MacKinnon grew up in the same small town as Crosby.

The BEST way to 'get context' is to pause each clip as it starts, and check out the score, which period and how much time remaining, and see what game in the series it is as well. Playoffs mean best of 7 series, and a lot of those goals were game seven OT goals. And remember, to win the Stanley Cup, a team has to win 4 series in a row!! And, by the way, when they play the series, they play every second night, except when they travel between cities (I believe). The only extra time off they get is if they win a series quick, and the other series take longer. Also remember, that in Stanley Cup games, there are UNLIMITED overtime periods to end a game. No shootouts for Stanley Cup play. I have watched, in the past, games that went 3 or 4 OT periods, and oh boy, were those some great games.

Fun fact about the 3:12 goal. At the 3rd intermission before overtime, STL's coach was taking a piss when #4 came to the bathroom and did the same. #4 looked up at the coach and said, "All I need is one more chance." kzread.info/dash/bejne/qmetw9SkZtW2ftY.html here's a video where the coach talks about it at 10:38

You can gather a lot of context from the scoreboard display at the top. Most of these are big playoff goals, with a game tied in the 3rd period or in overtime and a lot are series-winning goals (best of 7 series). Goal at 4:54 has to be the best one, Stanley cup winning overtime goal

The score display gives context on a lot of the goals - I think these are mostly playoff goals. The playoffs are four rounds of best-of-7 series (first team to win four games advances). So the first goal, it's late in the third period, tie game, second round of the playoffs, Colorado is up 3 games to 1, and that goal just put Colorado ahead in a potentially series-clinching game. (Though given the third clip, which is the same teams with Colorado leading the series 3-2, I suspect they did give up a later goal and lose in OT.) The one where the commentator went nuts was a series-winning goal in OT. Pittsburgh and Washington have been rivals for a while at this point (with Crosby and Ovechkin being two of the top players in the league), and Pittsburgh had continually gotten the better of Washington in the playoffs (8 out of 9 series meetings before this had gone Pittsburgh's way, including the previous two seasons). The Dallas goalie you called out actually had a phenomenal game to that point; the score display just before that showed that Calgary had 61 shots (!). The winning goal was a little bit soft, but he was the only reason the game hadn't been long over. The LA goal where you asked for context was the Cup-winning goal in 2OT. There is a camera in the net that can be used for reviews (along with an overhead camera that gives a better angle of the goal line) but there's nothing like the automated goal-line technology that soccer uses.

Bro, on these hockey reactions, you gotta look at the score bug at the top corner. That has all the context you need I promise you. Most of these goals are Overtime in Playoffs, or late in the 3rd period of a tied game. The Rick Nash goal at 4:02 is one of the best of his career. Alec Martinez at 4:56 wins the Stanley Cup for the LA Kings, Patrick Kane at 6:23 scores the Cup winning goal for the Chicago Blackhawks. Chris Kunitz at 9:40 wins the Eastern Conf. Final in Game 7 Double OT for the Penguins. As you mentioned near the end, those are cameras inside the goals to help review close calls or questionable plays.

Most of theses goals are during the playoffs most likely in overtime or eliminating the losing team, so that's why the celebrations are over the top because they get to advance in the Stanley cup playoffs against another team, the playoff format in NHL is you have to win 4 games out of seven against each team. So they get one step closer to the cup when eliminating a team. to win the Stanley cup you have to win 16 games against the best teams that finished on the top of the standings

Yes there's a camera pointing down at the line and another one in the back facing out. There's a lot of goal reviews from those angles. and that one at 9:52 was a Game 7 OT Winner for the Canucks against the Blackhawks. The Blackhawks were notorious for eliminating the Canucks in the playoffs all the time. That year, the Canucks had a 3-0 series lead over the Blackhawks. Chicago came back in the series to even it up at 3-3 to force a Game 7. Obviously for many people the thought was well...I guess it's another loss to the Blackhawks. In this game, the Canucks were up 1-0 until the final minutes when Chicago tied it 1-1. So the arena was dead silent in doubts thinking they're losing to Chicago yet again. Then out of nowhere in OT, Burrows grabbed that puck out of the air and slapped it home to win the game and the series. That's why the crowd was so loud and explosive. The commentator even said they "slayed the dragon" because the Blackhawks were the dragon to the Canucks. Losing to them year after year. This win propelled the Canucks all the way to the finals.

5:14 los angelos just won the stanley cup. Most of these are also just goals that made the team move to the next round of the playoffs or were career goals for example auston matthews’ goal made him the only toronto maple leafs player to ever score 60 goals in 1 season

5:10 the team scoring won the “championship” (Stanley Cup) after 2 OT (overtime) this is an extra period per overtime. They play 20 min a period, 3 periods in a regular game. I think it’s usually 20 min in between periods on a regular but in OT they only get 5 min. During playoffs, you have 7 games with the same team every other day, first to 4 wins.

I feel like a lot of the time your missing the context of some of these goals. For example, that first goal you watched, if you look in the top left of the screen you'll see that its a tie game in the second round of the playoffs with three minutes left in regulation. Colorado is up 3-1 in the series and Nate Mackinnon goes coast to coast with one of the prettiest goals you'll see. Yes the goal was unbelivable to watch, but when you put it into context it just makes it that much more enjoyable and unreal how good these guys are when it matters most. Yes I spelled unbelievable wrong im too lazy to fix it.

4:47 Yea you are in a way. This was Jake Oettinger's first ever Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance with the Dallas Stars. He was in his final year of Entry Level Contract. He carried majority of the run with Dallas and took them to Game 7 as you can see in OT. Oettinger finished with 64 saves out of 67 shots (.955 sv%). He was resigned to a 3 year deal (4 mil aav) as he now is the staple of the Stars goaltending for the seeable future to come. This past playoffs although he went further (3rd round lost to eventual champs Vegas), he didn't put up similar performance to that time the year prior. Great young big goalie (6'5 225 lbs) from Lakeville, MN. He'll be up there with guys like Hellebuyck, Sorokin, Shesterkin, Vasilevskiy as one of the top goalies in the league for years to come. Regarding to that play though from Gaudreau (who now signs with Columbus Blue Jackets by the way via free agency), Otter was not expecting him to shoot from that spot. Could he overlap that play on his feet, yea that would help. But also, he had significant pressure all game long and I think it just came to a surprise that he wasn't expecting that at the time.

Dude carried the team that round and was the only reason that series made it to 7 games.

Some of the goals were showcased because of the pure skill, but there were others that were OT Stanley Cup winning goals, cheers.

ah, I think something you're maybe missing is that the NHL has the playoffs. Soccer doesn't have that. In the NHL after the 82 game season the top 16 teams (it's a bit more convoluted than that but basically) play a round robin type tournament to determine the Stanley cup winner. you play a best of 7 against another team in your division, if you win, you play another best of 7 against the other team in your division that won theirs. If you win that you play another best of 7 against the other team in your conference that did the same. and if you win that, another best of 7 against the other conference's winner. 16 wins after the regular season to win the Stanley cup and sometimes elimination comes in overtime of game 7. Nothing in sports matches the stakes, the storylines and the amount of emotion involved in a Stanley Cup run.
