Pej, I work in the recovery community and love the work that I do. Sadly the recovery homes in the community are the ones that you warn about. Myself and the entire staff of the state grant program we work for are suffering from compassion fatigue dealing with the absolute trauma individuals are being put through day to day in these homes that are for profit and feeling completely hopeless to protect them. Adult protective services and the state have been no help in protecting this extremely vulnerable population. I can tell you nightmare story after nightmare story of what is happening to these poor people in these homes. Their business model is relapse not recovery. Not only are the homes responsible for patient harm but it has come to death. After our many please to the state and getting nowhere I feel like this raises to the federal level. I would appreciate any advice you could give.

Some of those things are never really a requirement. Unless you might happen to be in the legal system. They're usually suggested in normal recovery but not a requirement of early recovery.

This sober living house I'm in right now is a bunch of snitch's. I've done spent over half my life in prison and I'm going through it because now I got to live with a bunch of rats. I want to do something to them but everyone knows I'll be right back in prison.

I'll say this much I didn't live in sober living but I had a housemate who intentionally od ed and the amount of the times the cop asked we lived in a halfway house or something implies to me very little

@@PejInterventions I would like to open a sober house in NJ. My problem is I would be opening one in a not too nice neighborhood. I'm afraid this will lead to the residents relapsing. To combat this I plan to do weekly drug testing, and install cameras around the facility (not inside, except hallways and basement), locking furniture/ appliances down. I know these are minor deterrents to prevent relapsing. Is there a way of getting over the guilt of opening a sober house in an area that can trigger relapses?

Sober living is the poop stain of sobriety. Because of the fact that. Even though you may pay them fees for a bed in a room like a hostel. You could lose that money, should you relax tomorrow or break a rule and get kicked out or I even had one that could be kicked out at the manager's discussion. So basically saying that if the manager didn't like me? Or the fact that I wore pink socks that i could be out and out the 1200 a month fee thsy had paid. Also sober livings love to way over charge for the beds like in the area i am in i have beds as high as 55000 plus a month Also, the place is charging and using and saying please able to keep your money. If you screw up and kick you out immediately are the same people who are gonna teach you about spiritual principles. Which is insane to me. Because the only reason you're teaching me about spiritual principles is because I'm willing to pay you. And see the amount of money for a bed. That I don't really have a right to if I'm asked to leave. On top of making you rich because you're charging those fees for everybody in that room. Every sobering living i have been too makes you sign a contract giving away your rights as a tenant and they keep your money of you are asked to leave and based on the papper work most have you signed you agree to leave immediately. You dont get a 30 day notice you leave.
