IDK why COD is playing with the emotions of its fanbase. A game needs realism as well as emotions at the same time. Killing Soap like a regular soldier might have got the realistic part but the expectations of fans got compromised on the way.

Recent COD's are never gonna top the Nuke going off in COD 4, the final Russian mission in WaW, No Russian in MW2, pretty much the entirety of Black Ops 1, Soap's death in MW3, and every time Menendez is on screen in Black Ops 2. Non stop bangers in the original games.

Black Ops 2 has multiple endings based in decisions you make. The longest weapon list, biggest play mode list and biggest zombies playlist. Not to forget Black Ops was all tied with historical accuracy. The most memorable Modern Warfare scene for me was the US getting invaded by Russia. That scenario tripped me out in Modern Warfare 2 and the way it takes you right back in Modern Warfare 3 made waiting a year more than worth it. The original Price was such a try hard, daring man. His odyssey to beat Makarov and doing it was rollercoaster from Modern Warfare 1 to 3.

Overall the reboot 141 didnt feel as tightly connected as they did in the original here they just feel like coworkers with the exception of ghost and soap who are the only ones to actually feel like they are friends who have been trough stuff together.

That scene was the only reason I was even vaguely considering the remakes. Guess I won't bother since they replaced it with... nothing.

Would have been more impactful if you were playing as Ghost,seeing how he and Soap bonded so well MW2.They really missed for a great gut wrenching scene between the two,this just felt souless and Price reaction was just plain.

I completely agree, they spent all last game on soap and ghost/price and gaz. I honestly would have liked seeing price die saving soap and having the three have to step up into his role instead of the young blood dying again. In the end just feels like shock value for “shock values” sake.

the new mw the developers want it to be more realistic and in war you'd see a lot of deaths not only deaths of the enemies but also death of your allies so they'd be almost used to it and they need to stay focused on the defusal

The first was great, 3 games you built up a relationship with Soap, hell you were Soap on CoD4. You saw him bond with and care for his Task Force only to lose them all in a flash. Then, when you're carrying him to safety as he's bleeding out, you know it's a desperate attempt to save him. You know he's likely to die and yet his death is a shock. It hits hard. Price's screams and cries for the only friend he has left is supposed to reflect how the player feels. In 2023, Soap's death is purely shock value. You just don't expect it and the biggest sign of emotion is Ghost's "Johnny!" His death being overshadowed by the bomb was a big mistake. In MW3, the entire mission was essentially you grieving Soap's death. In 2023, its 5 seconds before we have to stop bomb #2382.

Thank you for showing this, it’s enough to tell me I don’t need to come back. MW3 was my first cod game, and Soaps death, Makarov’s tricks and reveal about Yuri, and Price’s fury at him made for a memorably shocking moment. This had none of it.

I was really hoping Soap got to live a little longer this time around.

In the OG Soap had to tell Price about Yuri because he would never tell Price himself and believe its pretty fckn important that your best friend knows that the guy you’re working with has a past relation to the madman you’re trying to hunt down both for Price’s safety and possible intel on Makarov. Soap didn’t die a snitch, he died trying to take down the world’s most dangerous man.

Never played the regular campaign but can definitely tell they made this scene less impactful

It should’ve been Gaz. Price was never close to Soap in this reboot. Even then Ghost didn’t show any emotion when Soap died. They not only butchered this crap but they didn’t even redeem it by having Ghost act up. Ghost and Soap were close in this series this time around.

MW3 2023 soap's death may have been more realistic but realism is not always good. The reason why MW3 OG was more impactful was because it was very emotional and cinematic while in 2023 it was sudden and unexpected and their initial reaction is not that good because they were preoccupied with a bomb making it feel less impactful. Obviously I prefer the OG death.

I never had the opportunity to play through the original Modern Warfare games, have only played the remakes. Didn't know who lived and who died. So seeing Soap die out of nowhere was quite the shock. But seeing how Price reacted in the original makes Soap seem like a NPC in the current one.

To be fair, Ghost was more close to Soap than Price was in the remake. I understand what you’re saying but I feel like some people are forgetting that detail as after Ghost and Gaz sees his dead body, Ghost ran to him

I honestly think in the 2023 version they should've killed Gaz instead of Soap. It would've hit much harder for not only the player but for Price as Gaz has been there since MW 2019. In this new trilogy Price and Gaz had a much closer relationship kind of like how OG Price and OG Soap did in the OG Trilogy. Price recruited Gaz under his wing after the Picadilly attack and they've gone through so much more together then Price and this version of Soap. Hell we barely know this new Soap he was only properly introduced in MWII and he was mainly paired up with Ghost. Idk overall MWIII campaign was very disappointing and they did this version of Soap a disservice by killing him off way to early before they really did anything with his character.

Hold up, Gaz is alive in the new one and so is Ghost? God I'm glad I never touched the reboot mw.

I was around 11yrs old when I played COD MW3. In my mind I believed soap would live If I carried him to safety, it devastated me when he died. MWIII made me feel nothing, even when I felt a connection to soap. He died so quickly that I didn’t even have time to process it.

Can’t believe we lost soap TWICE 😢

They should have at least waited for MW4 if they was going to do this... or, you know, pick someone else for a change. Not all of them have to die, watch it be Price at the end again. :/

Soap didn't think he was betrayed. Makarov clearly states that Yuri should have never tried to come back. I think he just wanted to give that info to Price so that Yuri would finally open up about it.

Soap’ death is a cannon event to defeat Makarov

The differences between the two deaths were the impact. Obviously, Soap’s death back in 2011 was one of, if not the most, impactful moments in all of gaming history. Nothing was going to plan and every turn just kept goin in the wrong direction until eventually it came down to Soap’s death. We got Price emotianally coming to terms with it in the moment and not having any time to lament, while also having to face the unknown as to whether or not Yuri’s a traitor, which in turn made Yuri’s death in the finale so much more impactful. 2023 just feels like a side character, not a character we personally got to know throughout all three games, get offed in one of the most bleakest scenes in gaming, when in the same year we’ve have probably some of the most impactful moments and deaths from other studios and games.

The OG death had emotion wtf were they thinking with this one 💀.

They cared in 2011. Price lost one of the last friends and allies he had cuz Price's at that point was a fugitive that both the West and Russia wanted dead cuz of Shepard's lies. The stakes were the highest they ever were and still after this scene. Price resumed being a badass and finishing the mission. This new Price is so concerned about being Cool and Tactical, he would never do anything like the old Price who didn't care. The post credit scene is the first time in this new MW series that Price did something that old Price would do. (But it also doesn't make sense cuz yea Shepard is an asshole and villian, he didn't have anything to do with Soap's death in 2023 so its meh still)

Instead goes for a shoulder stab and dies to a dude with way less training This is supposed to be the same dude who fought and survived shadow company with a gunshot wound and nothing but a knife

Soaps original death got me in tears the first time i played through.

Original is more impactful to me than the new ones.

That was originally such an amazing emotional scene that it is hard to see what they redid with it. The new scene felt too rushed, they didn't even give soap any time to say last words or anything, but instead they just had him get shot and instantly killed, so disappointing. The other members of TF141 had pretty much no reaction to his death, and where in the original game, his death was super powerful and an incredible emotional scene, after playing through the new one, I just felt sad that they took away a great character in such a rushed and undignified way. They could have created a super powerful moment where ghost takes of his mask or something, but they just hurried it to get it released

I have talked to one veteran in our country, and he mentioned that he saw some of his friends die from bullets in a snap of a finger. Everything just happened quickly and next thing you know, you're carrying your friend's body home. I understand that the new version of Soap's death was very anticlimactic but I assume that would be the more realistic way of going down from a bullet to the head. It's fast, unexpecting, and shocking. Maybe in some way, that's what it felt like in real combat and witnessing you friend go down instantly. Still, as a modern warfare fan since COD4, i really hate how they treated Soap in the new version. He just died. It could have been more understanding that he died just right after disabling the bomb even when they are being attacked. And the real slap on the face is that we never got the closure against Makarov since he got away. Then they doubled down on it on the way they killed Sheperd since it was super boring and it doesn't have any form of payoff. The original modern warfare was very theatrical and in some ways over the top. But that's what made it so good. In some ways, we also feel the emotions of the characters as we play them. It was also satisfying when we get to finally kill the main antagonist and how we finally got our revenge on Makarov after Soap's death. In the new one, we never really felt that. It just feels empty...

Between the 2011 and 2023 one, i would pick 2011 as the most impactful death. I mean youve been playing as soap since cod 4 to mw3. So for 2011 one, its the most impactful death where as 2023 one for me it did caught me off guard but a bit heart breaking. But it cant beat the 2011 death more.

Soap hit a lot of stuff on the fall and was crushed by wood but Yuri didn't hit alot of metal and fell and wasn't crushed with a bit of plot armor added to Yuri

Really? Everytime I shot Makarov in the head Price instantly died, like the devs put it so that if you kill him you die too. I tried it multiple times, if I don't shoot him even standing there I don't die.

People saying "it's more realistic" are missing the point. For one, "realistic" died by the time the writers where put on a leash for MW2 and weren't allowed to include any morally ambiguous moments for the 'good guys' anymore. It's just a straight Marvel-ized heros vs villains story. Nothing realistic, nor particularly believable about it. Second, "realistic" doesn't automatically mean good. It's possible to write a realistic story where an important character dies in a meaningful way. It is likewise possible to write a cartoony good guys vs bad guys story where an important characters death is badly set up and badly executed. This is the latter.

Makarov literaly did a multiplayer execution on soap

The original is better in everyway, its emotional, impactful, even better at being realistic. You FEEL something and so do the characters. The reboot is one of the worst attempts at a realistic death that I've seen. The same man who took a gunshot wound and survived/fought Shadow Company with nothing but a knife and anything he could find is somehow snuck up on by 6 dudes, goes for a shoulder stab instead of a neck stab, or even a gun, is immediately overpowered, and then dies. Somehow Makarov is never shot by Gaz and Ghost and he gets away scott free. Then the only one who really has any emotion is Ghost. Shittiest writing ever especially since they killed him off in a fucking dlc.

Reminds me of ghosts death in the OG. So quick, so unfair but that’s war. 😢

Notice that barely any ashes come out of the urn. That's because sledgehammer used most of them smoking his pack.

There was literally no emotion at all of soaps death in the new one, it was like they knew it was going to happen. The original one you felt the impact of his death from the way price reacted.

There was no build-up to it either like in the 2011 game. Some foreshadowing during the Makartov flashback, but thats it.

I'm only gonna say this soaps death in MW3 2023 is alot more realistic where as soaps death in the original was more Hollywood

One of the things that make this all a pale imitation is one dynamic I genuinely hate. In the original, the story wasnt to be taken that seriously, so it had almost a pulpy Tom Clancy-esq feel to it that juggled the over the top action with emotional moments pretty damn well. The new series takes itself so seriously that its more pulpy aspects that it adopts from the original feel even more cartoony and ridiculous. It wants to pretend its a serious and gritty war story while having a guy in a fuckin halloween mask, a grumbly dour captain and a scottish dude with a mohawk do some comicbook shit! TL;DR what I'm saying is in their attempt to make it feel more realistic, it makes it harder to suspend my disbelief and take it seriously

2023 is so lazy and lame and worst of all, it has no emotion. 2011 was, however, more dramatic and tragic.

The entire MW OG death is far more emotional than this, even the death of Waraabe (That African commander) from MW3 OG is more emotional.

I think we should all remember that this is a video game it doesn’t have to be extremely realistic. The whole point of video games is to push reality to emotional and interesting scenarios and worlds. I’m furious with how they let soap go, there was such a lack of emotion especially knowing how it went down in the original mw3. It was such a let down to see TF 141 brush off his death and let makarov get away. If they wanted to switch up the story they could have had ghost have the emotional breakdown rather than price considering they formed such a close bond and soap changed his view on working with a team, why not give us a side of ghost we haven’t seen before? No matter what I’d be upset that soap die but at least then it would feel like a proper send off that then transitions to us seeing ghost avenge his fallen brother. Overall i’m pissed but also hoping that we get to see how soap’s death effects ghost in the next campaign.

I just thing the mw 2019-2023 is predoder to og mw 2009 -2013 . But when I see soap die again in mw3 2023 , Activision/IW faild me

I like the original one because they killed soap in a really sad way while 2023 doesn’t really have a sad death

U can tell the original is more impact because it actually gives us a story the mw3 campaign just decided let’s get war zone but just add a story to it cause the gameplay is nothing but war zone shit

(Modern Warfare 3 2011) then Modern Warfare 3 (2023) He messes with a Giant Panda/Big Fat Panda again. I think Master Shifu will revenge him or is it Po Lotus Ping or The Furious Five (Tigress, Crane, Monkey, Viper and Mantis) I was so much wishes to some chose any Pandas both sides of a Yin and Yang I saw future of Kung Fu & Pandas.........

So lets not compare this to OG MW3 for a moment... WTF was happening for the 15 seconds that Soap and Price were getting their shit rocked?

If they had shown Ghost taking off his mask and us just seeing emotion in his eyes would've been a hell of alot better than everyone just standing around. Ghost isnt supposed to be human, I get that. But Soap and Ghost bonded in MW2 and it's like they didnt give a fuck. The only thing this did, was break Price like Makarov did towards the end of the orginal MW3. So i think MW4 will be a much more unhinged and brutal Price.
