The old makarov was more of a cold, calculated supervillain. This new one is more of a general/captain, too much of a brotherhood/connection with his men. Old makarov felt like he was just using all of his men as pawns for his agendas.

It’s a decent Campaign but since the Modern Warfare series usually has very high expectations with it’s Campaigns (rightfully so they’re all pretty good), this one falls a bit flat. Honestly all it needed was about two to three more missions and the removal of the open combat missions. When the missions were just the standard linear ones that cod is known for, they were pretty good. Campaign definitely started ramping up near the end but then all of a sudden, it wraps it up. It really needed a few more missions after the last one. Can’t call it the worst Campaign when BO3 and Vanguard exist.

Dude his old voice is infinitely better and it's not even a competition.

I honestly like both portrayals of Makarov. The original one to me just feels more iconic because of how extreme his character is. If you really think about it, his personality is super over the top but that’s what makes him memorable. This new iteration of Makarov feels more genuine to a real person. Someone who sees his vision of the future as the truth. He cares about loyalty and his men which in turn makes them follow him blindly in his plan. Remember that every bad guy thinks they’re the good guy so I appreciate them not making him all out evil, but I can see why fans are bothered by that since it’s kind of a steep difference from OG Makarov.

Like the new one better. The best villains are not "I want to destroy the world so I can laugh with the devil" they are more of "only my group sees the truth and we will break what is needed to bring it to reality no matter who needs to be broken."

This version of Makarov is written like some cliched caricature of a Bond villain. Everything he does is just to show how evil he is for the sake of being evil, instead of really showing how terrifying he is and why he's such a threat like in the original games.

In both the original and rebooted versions of the games, Makarov is a terrorist running his own paramilitary organization, he's not affiliated with the Russian military. Makarov doesn't represent the Russians any more than Menendez represents Nicaragua or Latin American drug cartels. Also none of that excuses how watered down he is in this game.

To be honest although OG Makarov was a in fact a bad ass villain and had many perfect villainous lines. I have to give the line to Julian Kostov's 2023 Makarov. Because obviously he meant what he said. He teased soap and price and nearly forced them into killing them. But obviously Price and the others are a bunch of merciful characters than OGs. Which I don't judge but they should have listened because MW3, Soaps death and many kinda successful attacks wouldn't have happened. However OG Did kill basically all the main characters Soap, Yuri, Ghost and many others. He spoke too soon. He obviously wanted to prove he was the better man but ended up mucking around to long. which gave him the death he deserved.

I do like both Makarov in the original series and the Makarov in the remake, but I would say the original is more menacing than the remake.

The old Makarov was cold and calculating. One look at him & you can tell that dude was a snake. Combined that with his iconic voice & calm demeanor, and you got a truly threatening villain. A force of pure evil This Makarov, on the other hand, is too average looking & kinda acts like a run-of-the-mill extremist. Yes he does some vile stuff in the campaign, but he doesn't come across as menacing as Makarov should be

The new Makarov represents how the Russians really are now while the Old Makarov represents our old belief that the Russians are formidable

The way he said Herschel cracked me up. That’s my highlight of the whole campaign (which is kind of sad)

1:36 Makarovs says "6 years" while the subtitles show "4 years"

21:22 They way Makarov referred to the characters by their first names, his cryptic yet creepy tone of voice throughout, the explosion at the airport and the reveal that the stadium was just a decoy was absolutely erie. Also, “Simon Riley, I expected you to stay at the airport, and die there.” He literally just admitted that the stadium wasn’t the target and he was always targeting the airport. And “I’m not killing my people, you are.” Has the same energy as “That was no message…” *bang* “THIS is a message.” Makarov in the helicopter at 21:22 and airplane were closer to his original MW 2&3 iteration than the rest of the game combined. If they kept him this way throughout he’d been much more memorable.

His VA, Julian Kostov, said in an interview that he was changing accents on purpose during the scene. He says "Herschel" in a Texan accent and "i promise" in a Scottish accent. They tried pretty damn hard to show off his intelligence, which I think Julian did but the writers didn't.

The OG Makorv was better. If this was a new villain, I could definitely buy more into the character, but because this is supposed to be a new version of Makorv I’m going to be comparing the two. And this version is just inferior. I do like how quiet and soft spoken this guy is, but he doesn’t come off as threatening or menacing. The original Makorv was also a bit quiet and never yelled, but there was a threatening tone to him regardless, and he had this presence about him when he wasn’t on screen. Like I said, if this was a new villain, I would be more accepting. But because he isn’t, he’s just inferior to the original Makorv.

Well OG Had more of a hateful yet amazing performance in the OG MW Series. He did cause many conflicts and deaths and killed the main characters. But I think this Makarov is more of a realistic version of what Makarov would be and that he seems more of a loyal yet dangerous and likeable villain because he just isn't hiding all the time. And he thinks and acts like a Russian Villain.

Yeah when I first saw these guys I was like: "Bro! Is Makarov like a President? or Like a Really rich man?" I also wondered how they were more badass looking then shadow company?

The original Makarov cares little of his men, they're pawns for his agendas, replaceables. A cunning, cold, and emotionless man driven by a strong will to change history, you can hardly call him human. This new Makarov is a leader, an inspirational leader some may even say, but not the same. Too relaxed, quite charismatic, but above all, too emotional, and worst is, generic. Not a bad villain, but a completely different one. Then again, calling this game a reboot of MW3 is delusional.

This could’ve ended early if captain price didn’t stop soap from killing Makarov then when you play the final campaign of the story it was really sad that soap had to die who know what will happen in the next call of duty

why is soap talking like that 😂

His performance is not lousy, just average. I think he needs a scene of great importance like "No Rusian of 2009". That defined Makarov as a villain to be feared. That this Makarov has tattoos all over his body and has some dialogue in Russian, doesn't make him a villain at all.

You just dont see his intelligence because your intelligence is low aswell. The Actor did a pretty damn good job in the Helicopter saying "Herschel" in a Texan like accent and "i promise" in a scottish he teased both characters that he will get them Also how easily he killed Soap show his skill. He attacked a Stadium as "Decoy" killing civilians and bombed a airport. If this dont define him as a badass villain than OG Mak is not a villain too. New Mak Kill count is higher at the same day as OG Mak in MW2.
