I love this. I am a gay nan who writes mm romance, and this space is dominated by cis, white, women. I have been told that mm romance is not written for me. I find it insulting. If you're saying it's not for me, then you are fetishizing my life and experiences. I am part of a group that supports male and masculine identifying people who write mm romance and support each other. We did a virtual engagement where we all got time to talk about ourselves, and quite a few women felt it was unfair that we excluded women because everyone should have been allowed to participate as writers, not realizing male mm authors are more discriminated against in our own stories. I don't have an issue with cis women writing mm romance, but when it turns to fetishuzation and exclusion of gay men, then there is an issue.
