Definitely true. Premier would never say it but he saved this from the trash heap and made it the classic the verses deserved.

99 Problems worked well with Jay-Z, but, I think Rick Rubin got too comfortable going through his Billy Squieress break beats bin. Kind of never got out of his License To Ill production phase.

I didn't even know there was an original version with a different beat. Much less Rick Rubin was involved. No disrespect to Rick, but Premo took the song to another level.
Let's have Nas' "Nas Is Like" next! Pure fire! 🔥
The respect Preemo has when talking about Rakim is amazing ! Clearly one of his idols.

@@Kirk690_0 Yeah I agree. I’m just glad to see Hip Hop being taught in academia. Sampling is truly an art form. It takes an insane amount of patience, dedication, and focus. You have to be open to all genres and train the ears to hear music in a whole different way. Not everyone can do that.
Sheesh, never knew that the original was this terrible. Preemo turned it into a gem!
How good this beat is…I knew this was a remix, never heard the original and never even cared to look for it. I knew it wouldn’t compare. I was right

“Timeless so age don’t count in the booth, when your flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth.” ~Rakim
DJ Premier is one of hip hop's most wholesome characters.. just like the late great GURU.. much love Preemo!
I'll never get tired of Premier's stories because he just has a way of keeping you engaged from start to finish. Details and all. With that being said there's always twist lol. And the Rakim situation was definitely that. Crazy how everything just worked out in the end. Which is another thing I appreciate about Premier's stories.
Rakim, KRS-ONE, Nas Preemo are classic, so age don't count in the booth as their flow stayed submerged in the fountain of youth

Classic, love the series. Would love an episode on “Goldyn Chyld”.
This gotta be one of the most exciting story telling's of this series. So stoked you did a video explaining this one!!
We need a Rakim x DJ Premier album.
I was in 7th grade 2007! My parents just got me an iPod Video and I asked a high school friend of mine to load it with anything he had that was hip hop I remember waiting for the bus and I’m just hitting shuffle and boom this song came on and blew my mind! One of my favorite hip hop tracks of all time still!!
When the beat is turned off and Rakim goes acapella has been from the jump my favorite part of that track. Thank you Preemo. ✌🏽❤️
OH YES this one is seriously a classic, cant wait!!
Preemo for President! Always dropping the "classics!"
This song is totally totally awesome and that beat is all that
I feel like a kid at candy store ahaha, more Rakim stories please Preemo :)
Of course we needed this. Salute Salute yes Salute to Preeemo, Nas, the blast master Krs-one, Kanye West and God father Mc Rakim. We are here. Thank you for this one. 🙏🏽🙏🏽Legendary 4Life.
Man, these episodes don’t get enough recognition, Preemo you da goat!🐐🔥
This is awesome, we got dj premier, one of the best producers, telling us the stories of his career in 2023. I’m glad hip hop is a new art form so we got the early legends like premier recording and telling us the history in great detail.
Met Guru in lisbon then I met Preemo.....I was heavily beaten up at Preemo gig, ended up in the hospital......today im a sound engineer prodiucer.....and still a hiphop head.....this guy is a f legend!
This song is an automatic classic! And I must admit Mr. West held his own on this one.
Yea... i remember this dropping. I was 17. I'm 31 now.❤️❤️❤️
I remember when this single came out, the song was on repeat all day long.
Dj premier is the essence of hiphop. This man has blessed the world with his gift. Thank you🙏🙏🙏 These series are dope as F!

i was able to find a promo copy of this on 12" vinyl, and it was a staple in my 'Premier' set when I spun sets. The stories keep getting better and better!
I love that Rakim has that line about age when he’s not even 40 doing this video. Rappers are definitely not having to think about is as much now
Nite and day versions for sure. Premier did this remix pure justice!!
I love how Krs stopped everything like , “we need a Premier beat.” Lol. Good call. Thnx fr sharing Preemo this is an unbelievable story🌹👑🌹 for such an incredible song

Premier: Classic. KRs 1 Nas Rakim Kanye: Timeless
This is proof that this culture called Hip-Hop is a gift from our ancestors and the most High!
Most important. Sample : Carl Douglas's "Dance the Kung-Fu"
That’s why Rakims line “timeless, so age don’t count in the booth when your flow stay submerged in the fountain of youth” is acapella. Not just because it was a fire line, but because his bpm was too slow since he originally rapped acapella Preemo just basically said I can’t speed this up I’m just leaving it exactly the way it is . I love these videos it just shows how the magic is truly made in a song. Salute to all the artists that made this “classic” happen! Truly is timeless
I love the intro to this track. It could be a mini song by itself
