This was not cheesy , this fantastic song was genuine to Darren in terms of what he was dealing with at the time. Powerful messages that was coming from a truthful perspective.

You should check out Two Beds and a Coffee Machine from the Affirmation album. That's a song that explains all his trauma and will gut you.

This was the most perfect album! I will always be a huge fan of Savage Garden. Affirmation is a perfect song, lyrically. I hope you get to their song "I Don't Know You Anymore". This one (I Don't Know You Anymore) is special to me, although I do love all of their songs.

I adore Darren Hayes, he's a beautiful human and he went through so much shit, he's an inspiration for overcoming it all. I was a fan of Savage Garden since they hit the UK back in like '97, and it was the one band that we could listen to on road trips without anyone bitching lol.

Awww, this gave me such vivid flashbacks to the show I attended from this final tour of theirs. It was amazing. Also reminded me what an incredibly dazzling smile Daniel has, 15-year-old me was #shook. 🤭

I feel that this song came at just the right time. It could have been cheesy if he released it a year earlier, or a year later. This song however was part of the journey. His fans had been in his journey along with him, and we related to him. When we heard it from him at this time, we were right there with him in the place with him. I don’t think it could have been released by anyone else and been so “cheese free”. His fans were right there with him, and we absolutely lapped it up.

The thing about this band is, at the time, I loved them and so did my dad and so did my older cousin. So it didn’t matter what gender, age of life achievements were you could appreciate their music. :)

Man, I just found your channel a week or so ago, but I found Savage Garden when I was 14, over 20 years ago. Your love of the lyrics and darren's voice and vibe is exactly how I still to this day have for it. Uplifting and honest and just songs to make you happy. Idk if you did "Hold me" yet by them but you need to check it out for sure. Also, not to sound corny but you literally made videos on probably 25 of my top 50 songs of all time. Sad to see nothing recent!

Darren has absolutely wrestled with demons. He's talked pretty openly about his past struggles. Always appreciate your SG reactions. Thank you!! 💜 One of my favs is Gunning Down Romance - always thought it was super dark for a pop band. Always really wished some metal band would cover it 😅

Theres a largely underated artist of the 90's who I think you'd love.. Sophie B Hawkins. Try The Ballad of Sleeping Beauty, No Connection or Right Beside You to start with. Keep up the good work Anton.

I have these lyrics typed out on a card and it hangs by my home computer. Every Affirmation rings true to my life story. I love it so much. Its even has a lot more meaning since Darren Hayes came out with is sexuality. You are correct in you saying he went through a lot of negative Juju in his life.

I Don't Know You Anymore and Two Beds and A Coffee Machine are my favorites on this album. However, that said, there's not a bad song on the album. i haven't listened to it in full in a long time, but it's 22 years later, and I still listen to many of the songs from this album weekly.

when i was young this was my '' i belive song'' this one and the animal song are my favorites from them.its not about how plain that 90 sound sounds,or that is 3 chords and not a masterpiece....but it gave you a start to know what you believe in and what your morals are.i liked it very much.....the other empovering song was i belive from manowar..maybe its a more girly song and thats why u think its cheese

It is not cheesy it is definitely coming from a real place. Darren Hayes wasn't out of the closet yet as a gay man so this song was very personal to him and I believe he put his heart and soul into this track in particular. I really appreciate you reviewing his songs though. His solo work in my opinion is even better then the Savage Garden stuff.

The term 'wall of sound' came from Phil Spector who was famous for creating that sound. The producer of this album also produced My Heart Will Go On, and many movie soundtracks, so maybe it was his influence here? Sometimes people are only able to express things in certain ways, and they don't always translate well. I'm very bad at expressing things that are very painful or sad. Some people are very good at it. I always had an issue with monogamy but only as a construct and only outside of a committed relationship. Any time I was committed, I was monogamous and believed in it. Outside of something that's for long-term and committed though, to me, it's always been a social construct that didn't fit with my own views. When it comes to karma, that's so not real, I don't believe. And, I don't believe it with my whole being. I used to think or, more likely hope, it was real. I've seen too much to be able to any more.

Oh, you said being physically attractive helps too (in addition to having a beautiful or attractive heart and soul). That's an interesting topic. Humans (and pretty much every other species) are attracted to others by certain features, and those are necessarily going to be things that are observed first/most prominently. There is a huge influence from the beauty industry on how people perceive others, but mostly themselves as far as physical attractiveness too. There can be downsides to being considered physically attractive. It can lead to not knowing if you are liked just for that. It can be painful to find out that's all someone sees in you, or ever saw in you. VERY painful. It's because it is such a small part of who you are. And one you have no hand in. There have been so many times....ah, *sigh* it's not worth going into without it coming off all wrong. Suffice to say our society makes too many judgments of others based on their looks whether (considered) attractive or unattractive.
