I knew I loved you by savage garden was one of their best. But if you’re going for vocals, then go for insatiable by Darren Hayes (he’s the lead singer)

This song played so much back then and up to today it is so good listening to. 🥰

Rosie O'Donnell helped launch their career because she kept playing their song "I Want You" on her show. She said the lyrics were so quick she had no idea what they were saying except for "Ch-Cherry Cola". She called it "The Cherry Cola song". I remember watching those episodes and not being able to understand the lyrics either. I fell in love with them as soon as I got the CD and then went to see them in 1997 when I was in college. They sound almost identical live.

I love your analysis of this song. So true! Many people look for someone who will be “everything special” and make them happy. This is why this song is so good, it’s so romantic and dreamy.

Darren said in a interview that he wrote this song when he first became famous, He was several miles away from home but still in Australia. This was around the time he had just gotten married. Him and Daniel had shut them selves into a small apartment to write the album Savage Garden and this song was born out of the feelings of longing, and just genuinely missing, and wanting to see and be with his wife. It was orginally written by Darren as the song Magical Kisses but was later rewritten to become Truly, Madly, Deeply.

Darren hayes/savage garden is one of the greatest voices and the best song list ever. I've been listening to them since the 90s and i STILL havn't gotten sick of a single song. "I knew i loved you before i met you" is by far their best track and crash and burn is also a 10/10.

They make you fall in love with love, feel heard and comforted and make you just want to dance. Love everything savage garden did and Darren continues to captivate.

I was Truly Madly Deeply in love with every song on this CD when I bought it in 1997. A true Masterpiece ❤️

Darren always reminded me of Richard Marx. Same beautiful tones. Richard was a bit more rock though, but his ballads were everything.

This song so much nostalgia it makes me remember everything! Love your reactions you seem to enjoy it like I do. Your commentary at the end about being naive is really interesting and I agree with you that not many people feel that deeply but also because we are in a society where maybe men are made to feel less masculine or weak if they admit a high level of emotional irresponsibility in their character. We have to follow a mold to be seen as upstanding members of society, so while the singer might say its naive it doesnt mean its invalid its something he felt and he lived its his life experience he should not feel any shame.

Darren Hayes is indeed one of a kind, his voice is something else! You should check out his solo material, you will be blown away! Your reactions are top notch, you always have something interesting to share with us... I am subscribing now and will check your older reactions! Was it a dog or cat I heard in the background at some point? I love animals.

One that you should check out by them is 2 bed and a coffee machine, this song hits home with many people, i never had to go through what the song is about but my sister and her daughter did and we we're very close, so i can't help thinking about them when i hear it! as far as i know nobody has reacted to that song before on YT so u might be the first :)

This whole album was so so good!! I used to play it non stop! I think I lll revisit today!

Darren also made wonderful solo work. If you liked Truly Madly Deeply you ought to check out his song Bloodstained Heart. Great lyrics and awesome melody/musical arrangement. I like the way you comment on songs - very respectfully.

And written about his feelings over the death of Michael Jackson. Secret codes and battleships is one of my top albums. Hearing it live back in 2011/12 was one of my favourite memories.

Darren Hayes has such a smooth voice. I could hear him singin for hours. You should hear Insatiable. JC chasez and Darren are my favorite singers

I still have the CD of that album. I was addicted to it when it came out! Break Me Shake Me was one of my favorites! With this song there are parts of his voice that stand out, hard to explain. But like when he sings the words "a deepert meaning"

We love Darren but the unsung hero of the band is Daniel John’s who did all the music and producing. He is an immense talent that made Savage Garden have that perfection in music and composition.

Savage Garden pretty much shaped my childhood. I remember getting the cassette tape for their album Affirmation on my birthday and I was obsessed!

Being in high school in the 90s we were really spoiled I guess, with all that amazing music playing at our parties

Savage Garden wasn't a one hit wonder but they released only two albums, in '97 and '99. Those were full of great songs though, eight definitive bangers.

It's a beautiful love song. Who doesn't want to live a love like this ? It's the perfect image of an ideal romantic love relationship... A little bit "too colorful", I agree, with saturated colors in the video palette too, and despite all the lies we listen through life, ( from womb to tomb ) it's OK to dream a little bit... or life wouldn't worth to be lived... but one of the songs that from time to time I like to listen to... again... and again... and again... 😊.

I don’t know how I feel about bathing in the sea kinda a strange line and I’m scared of the ocean so no thank you but amazing song so catchy and emotional also this band is so underrated!

I'm not sure if you're listening to the version of this album with "Mine" on it, but I really hope so. It's a great one but only on certain versions of the album.

fun fact (or weird comment) - - at 1:49 a Leaf lands on Darren just as he is about to start singing and it Nearly triggers him to start laughing. You can see the hint of a smile/laugh starting to form on his lips (and the smile lines form from his nose to the corner of his lips). But then he instantly pulls it together and gets back into the mood, and starts singing. All in a second or less.

I hear this and I get flashbacks to my college years.

Met my future wife in high school, senior year, 1997. This song will forever be tied to us. Been married 22 years and this song means even more to me now, although I do miss how it was when this song first came out. I miss the older, simpler times but this will always be a timeless classic!

I loved Savage Garden, very unique musicianship. If you liked this song and sound , you should visit 90’s group No Mercy “When I Die”, Where do you Go and “Please don’t Go”. You might not recognize the name but you’ll recognize the songs. Very underrated group.

Hmmmm....... Interesting take on the self love angle. Darren Hayes separated from his wife in 1998 which is the year after this song was released in 1997. They divorced in 2000, the same year he came out. He married his boyfriend in 2005. So maybe he was struggling with that too. Love your reaction & this is one of my favourite songs of all time.
