So THIS Is What Happened to New York Undercover 😡

New York Undercover tapped into a young demographic that was drawn to the multicultural cast, the New Jack Swing beats, the action-packed drama balanced by the episodes centered around societal issues, and, of course, the clothing. But it didn’t take long for things to unravel.

That show was so underrated. Not only was the cast phenomenal with great chemistry and crime-solving stories, but I'm also glad that they highlighted the co-parenting relationship between Malik and his son's mother. It proved on a national level that black men are in their children's lives, supporting and raising them and not treating their exes like crap.

New York undercover was a game changer in the 90’s because you never saw black and brown characters as undercover cops. The show was groundbreaking and I loved the music and fashion that was subtly slipped into the script. I always wanted JC and his baby mama to get back together. They made a cute couple. I’ll never forget the episode when JC’s fiancé was killed. It was like whhhhaaattt!!!!! No one liked the new replacements and they should have never changed the format. Dick Wolfe should have listened to the actors and the people who made this show a hit. Clearly he didn’t want to show to succeed. Thanks for this update RRG. Great work as usual.

The next day everybody on the yard and in class would be talking about it. Natalie’s was one of the best parts of the show! We couldn’t wait to see who’d be performing at Natalie’s. They canceled Detective Torres off of the show because it was believed that he led the protest that halted production in the beginning stages of season 3. Some of these "elitists" get real pissed off when minorities decide to voice their demands and concerns as to how they are treated. You can't expect two great actors to continuously collect crumbs off the table when their show was breaking records every week by being the most watched show in minority households. They just do all the work and you collect a huge chunk of the profit? What a waste of a show that was so popular.

That was my show! I loved everything about "New York Undercover." It broke my heart when it was cancelled and I never knew why but now I know. The show was a hit, the actors/actresses should've been paid well, not only that, they should've had some involvement, and I bet the show would've been on longer than 3 years. I found out today that S.W.A.T was just renewed a 6th season. Why? Because they're letting some of the stars direct some of the episodes, having some input, and Shemar Moore being one of the producers of the show. It's obvious that they were not granted that. (Malik Yoba having ideas). If they're bringing it back, I will be front and center, and I will support them.

I just recently finished binging this on Prime. I was also born after the show went off air, and I looked up spoilers for some of the episodes. I still felt the impact of the stories, themes, and subject matter of this show, so much so it made me emotional. Seasons 1-3 are literally amazing. The development of characters was absolutely beautiful, even the unfortunate death of Eddie Torres. I cried watching his montage and then his final appearance alive on the show but I adored him. JC really grew as the seasons went on, as a father, significant other, and cop but was still that cool yet serious brotha that we enjoyed. Miss Nina was so fierce and head strong and I loved that from her, she didn’t hold back with business or personal. And Cooper, her style worked for those knuckleheads. NYU will forever be a great show and had a good run (we don’t acknowledge much of season 4🙃) especially for those who could live it in real time

It's all about the coins with them. They're always been like that and wonder why no one likes them and always whining about something that's being DONE to Them that has no merit.

We contain so much power to lead and turn everything into gold but instead of "others" admitting that and giving us the honor we deserve, they rather study our craft, copy it, steal it and delete us completely out. This show was so dope when it came out in 1994, from the intro song, to the young characters it was centered around, the show was just so cool to watch. I actually remember me and my friends running inside the house every Thursday night just to catch it on TV. I also remember how cool the detectives dressed, rocking retro Jordan’s (before it was a thing to do) hockey Jerseys and Military fatigues (items that were very popular to wear in the 90’s) setting trends along the way. My favorite episode was the one with Mouse and C-Webb. I hope they re-boot this series but they have to bring back Detective Torres, it wouldn’t be the same with out him. 👍🏾

This show was too real and authentic to be made today. There are several reasons why this show is one of the best shows of all time. First of all, it shows New York City when NYC was really NYC. Second, J.C. Williams and Eddie Torres are two of the best homie cop duos of all time. Third, it has the toughest female Lt in the history of TV (Cooper). Fourth, the Hip Hop and R&B on this show was some of the best of all time. Fifth, the actors and actors who were guest stars on this show made it even better. Sixth, it was on Fox which was the number 1 network in America back in the 90s. Seventh, it really showed how great the 90s were and the culture back then. I can go on and on how great this show was. The only two cons of this show are: Torres got killed off in season 3 and the show only lasted 4 seasons. I'm glad they didn't reboot this or remake this. It just wouldn't look right today and the music they would have to include wouldn't sound right. Imagine them adding a Lil Baby song or a Lil Durk song on this real Hip Hop themed show smh. All 4 seasons are currently on Peacock. I'm currently watch season 1 episode 3 "Sins of the Father." If you have Xfinity internet, ask them to send you their FLEX box (its free), and you'll get Peacock premium FOR FREE.

Thats exactly what I said. Its sad that in 2022 the race crap has gone backwards pre 90s. Currently, there are still only one black to 50 whites in the entire show. They are either a criminal or being killed off or portrayed in a negative light. Its like none of these higher ups want real life senerios on the shows or the screen. In the nineties we at least got to see shows with entire ethnic communities portrayed as positive. Long running shows like law and order NCIS etc.. still have one black one Hispanic on the entire show and when they add more they are killed off to bring it back to 1. Which is so unrealistic. I so wish all this unspoken hatred can at least be eliminated on screen and television. Ny undercover was the best show ever and as close to real life in NYC. the new stuff is so out of touch with how it really is here. Especially the colorism and race representation.

Absolutely dope show. I miss that vibe. Miss the way my city was back in those days. The chemistry between Williams and Torres was lit. Not only did they play great partners, but they were best of friends as well. I still remember the Torres being hooked on drugs storyline. And Williams’ blood feud with Danny (Ice T). The musical guests were amazing, and the overall music worked so well with the aesthetic of the show. I’m iffy about a reboot though. I seriously doubt they’d be able to do the original justice. If it really gets greenlit, I’ll check it out (if they keep it within the veins of the original).

'New York Undercover' along with 'In Living Color' were my Thursday night shows back in the early 90's. I am so happy BET network brought back Season 1 of 'New York Undercover'. I had heard there's was going to be a remake of the series into a movie, but it never happy. This Afro Boricua loved seeing positive Black and Puerto Rican lead characters in this series. Let's not forget Afro Boricua Lauren Vélez playing the character, Nina Moreno. I am now in my 60's and I would love to see a remake of this series with the main characters in 2022.

I'm a huge Dick Wolf fan...his shows do not disappoint, but I have to say this pettiness between him and Michael De Lorenzo/Malik Yoba has me viewing him in a different light. New York Undercover was waaaay ahead of its time and after Eddie was written off and Natalies went to the waste-side, it was unbearable to watch (especially when Tommy took over- sorry man...R.I.P.). If ever there was a time to embrace hip hop culture and talk about the POWER the culture had, it was in 1996 and 1997 (when hip hop lost two of the GOATs). Hopefully this time around Dick Wolf listens to the fans and does a proper reboot....bring Eddie Torres back. We all know we've seen worse instances of ppl coming back from the dead (insert Fast and Furious character reference here - and No, I'm not referring to Paul Walker) with some interesting story explanations.

I agree with you 100%! They were shafted with the publicity. But then my cop- show mind kicked in and I started to think.....They could have been bribed not to support or publicize their show....in sooo many different ways. Unseen and unheard of meetings where things like this are decided happen everyday, everywhere. It's show business. And it also may have been a little TOO close to real life and the director was "forced" to kill it. 😳 Any hoo, a reboot would be fab, right. Like Hawaii 5 O

Tevin Campbell and Brandy together and James Brown.... It was grimy... It was dope.. And with no promotion it was winning.. This one was for the culture and the culture tuned in every single week. They killed the show(especially by killing Michael.. I shed a tear on that episode) and didn't give them what they deserved... This show was before its time and its better than empire because it feels authentic. A reboot would absolutely work.. One can hope. Good days...
