Malik Yoba: New York Undercover Was "The Little Ghetto Show That Could" (Flashback)
In this VladTV Flashback from 2019, Malik Yoba detailed why New York Undercover was ultimately canceled by the network. Malik touched on how the show wasn't promoted by Fox or any of its affiliates while many of the hip-hop outlets also shut them out. He went on to talk about his work within the community and explained why he believes everyone with means should be doing what Nipsey did for his community.

New York Undercover should’ve lasted much longer than it did. That show was ahead of it’s time with the Night Club and different artists coming to perform on there. That show was done after Season 3 when they killed off Detective Torres. Shid both him AND McNamara died the EXACT SAME episode! Great show for the culture my grandma used to let me stay up past my bedtime to watch this show with her on Thursday Nights on FOX.

R.I.P. to my grandma she died in 2017, she was THE ONE person who used to let me watch this shit at like 5-6 years old back in the 90s no lie 😂 once this show went off she was like “Okay baby, gone to bed you know you supposed to be sleep anyways.”

The show was cool when Reggie Bythewood was the producer. Notice how the show went to shit when he left. Torres and the other detective was killed off, then the show started to suck big time..

As a kid I would sneak and stay up to watch New York undercover lol .. I still remember the music for the show.They play the show still on tv.i seen it other day and it brought back memories.
I loved this show when I was a kid. When Torres car blew up, I was shocked as hell. Just stunned. The following season, I remember Tommy from Martin was one of the detectives, I lost interest by the second episode. Decades later I realized that the actor who played Torres wanted more money, they couldn't come to an agreement so they killed off his character. They should have created a scenario where Torres gets transferred to another precinct.

It’s a shame New York Undercover didn’t get the proper promotion. The show was realistic and had grit! I like that show.
WE ALL know New York Undercover was a Classic. That nigga Ice-T killed it on the show too.
New York Undercover I LOVED & still do... it was unique and necessary... I still support the show I have on my Amazon Prime

I never looked at that show as being ghetto. Yeah it was an urban show set in NYC with mainly black & Latino crime. But it was polished & presented well, in addition to being gritty. 🦾‼️

Just finished on Amazon Prime. Great to watch this, one of my top 10 favorite shows of all time. Kinda went downhill during the middle of the third season. Forgot so many talent got their start on this show like Viola Davis, Regina King, Amary Nolasco, just to name a few. Just thought it was weird they had a few actors play multiple roles

I use 2 watch this in the southwest and be like man NY is not 4 me lol great show
They filmed part of an episode in the school yard of my junior high school and a bunch of girls chased him and the actor who played Eddie across the school yard and one of them got his belt. First time I heard of the show and then i started watching it and liked it. If you're from NYC it's also cool seeing 1990s NY if you watch reruns of it.

I always felt that it was weird that New York gonna cover begin to love that it should have especially since it was a Dick wolf show the man who put law and order on the map should have got a lot more respect also BET is showing it every Friday night right now

I loved NYUC and it was definitely short lived. Many of the shows I loved were short lived. Fox used to cancel shows with the quickness, especially bigger budget shows if they weren't insane right out the gate.

The show was amazing & still holds up when u watch it now! Its crazy how Fox used black shows to get the IP up and then cancelled them all.

that show 1000% should have been on way longer than it was. that's a Dick Wolf classic and the only one that didn't fall into his normal category of shows.. I read Torres was killed off because Michael Delarenzo spoke out about the terrible working conditions they had to put up with.
