It was still a real conflict when this was recorded, so when she says in your head she isn't just imagining. She wrote it after two children in Warrington, England were killed by an IRA bomb.

On Easter Monday 1916, Irish nationalists launched an armed revolt against British rule in Ireland. Although quickly suppressed by the British Army, the rising was a seminal moment in modern Irish history.

I think The Cranberries meant to say that so long as violence and hatred linger in one’s mind, there will always be violence in the streets, on the battlefields. Thoughts are the genesis of action.

In 1993, Mother's Day, 2 young boys were killed by an Irish Republican Army bomb in Warrington: 3-year-old Jonathan Ball died at the scene and 12-year-old Tim Parry died later at hospital. In the Easter Uprising of 1916 the Brits put down a rebellion by the Irish for their freedom. The IRA said that "adequate warning" had been given before the explosions. The Cheshire cinstables contested it. The Irish singer of the Cranberries didn't care one way or another. She was tired of the hatred passing from one generation to another, killing person after person. Hence...this amazing song.

This was written in the aftermath of a bombing in Warrington, England in 1993, during the 'troubles' in Ireland in which two young boys were killed. It is a protest song about war and the empty-headed war mongers who don't take into consideration the innocent lives it destroys

Great reaction!!! Please try the Bad Wolves version of this as well. Dolores was to record with them, but sadly passed away the morning she was to record. They released the song without her and donated all money to her children. This was written in protest to an IRA bomb that killed 2 children out to buy Mother’s Day cards. One 3 and one 12 I believe. The Irish Republican Army fighting the British rule. 🖖🏻🇨🇦

world war 1 was happening in 1916, and the storyline shows that children are being used in war rlly young, and it shows how the parents felt. and how the trauma has never left them.

Not about WW 1. The reference is to the Easter rising in Ireland in 1916 and the fact that essentially the same battle was still being fought almost 80 years later.
