Landlord's the sort of person to think you're a deadbeat just because you don't wake up at seven AM every morning. Surprised he didn't require you to clock in every day just so he can register when you wake up and go to bed.

This whole situation is extremely messed up, and this landlord sounds like exactly the kind of person who should not be allowed to even interact with people, much less rent to people. Hopefully the next move goes well and you are able to get out as quickly as possible and recoup your money. Hey Ari, first time commenter, that sounds like an absolute horror show of a living situation and I am so sorry it is happening to you and your friends. No one should have to live in a place like that. I am very happy to hear you are in contact with a local tenet's right's organization. If anyone else watching this video feels they are in a similar situation please please please find your local organization. Your landlord has lied to you about the laws, and the police will almost certainly not help. I hope you are able to find restitution. I'm sure the organization has told you this, but for the people in the back; if you're in the USA, in most states it is illegal to record audio without consent. You can bring violators to court, it may not be as hard as you think. Although of course we are lucky if we can spare the time to communicate with all these different actors. Good luck and much love. landlord was shit testing you from the jump. It's an important lesson to learn as fast as possible- don't let petty tyrants slowly ratchet up the pressure. Where there's an illegal $25 fee for guests, there will always be more. Next time, you gotta say "no that is unacceptable, and we walk if you keep it up." And you have to mean it.

You may also want to try and get the recordings of that day in particular and preferably move-in day (former to show them being....them, latter to show they had 0 reason to do that; they met this person before and one can hope to reason a positive first interaction makes for not *that* as the second interaction)

This living situation sounds awful, I'm so sorry you had to go through that, hopefully the next place is fantastic and you can feel comfortable in your own house

Unfortunately landlords although there are resources to allow fair leasing, still take advantage of people and it really really sucks. Red Flags never become truly apparent until you have to face them firsthand. Good thing you're moving though, sounds like a weight lifted off the shoulders. Friends of mine had an additional fee applied to their rent - $200 - just because the plumbing system for the toilet broke on it's own and they "Didn't alert them quick enough" despite it being an ongoing issue that was elaborated upon multiple times.... and it was never fixed when it was the landlord's responsibility. Having frequented there for social gatherings, I'm glad they're outta there now. Best of luck to you, Peeb.

I love landlords!!! They're so very necessary!! Imagine all the evil I would do if I could just buy a property for an actual sane amount of money with a sane mortgage!!

I live in the USA and untold extra costs and stuff are kinda just a fact of life if you pay less then 2000 a month. But it is horrifying to hear how that guy acted. I hope you and your roommate are able to relax and find somewhere better soon.

It will probably be more dramatic the more you press it, but you'll easily find a great place that doesn't involve itself I. Your life to such a weird extent. Stay positive, do you and it will be ok. Wow and I thought I had the worst landlord ever, my landlord was like an unfeeling glob that didn't fix anything that needed fixing and then tried to fine me after they broke lease by not fixing anything. Yours sounds like a very abusive person that has a lot of paranoia

What a story, i had similar situation renting on vacation. Old people are crazy sometimes, when someone was staying the night They wanted sweet moneyy even given that They already had 100%+ marge on that rent. God, I hate landlords so much [vague communism intensifies]. Good on you going to the tennant's union, especially since what happened to you has probably happened before and will probably happen again. It sounds like it was extra-harrowing due to gender/sexuality minority status. Besides the "normal" financial parasitism of would-be landlords, the desire to rule in any way possible is a constant. Anyone with the self-awareness and restraint to not abuse their power wouldn't be a landlord in the first place. But yeah, that's the end of my political theory 101 rant! Good luck in your future living situations, and if at all possible (which it very well may not be!) take your time and be selective. To end on a better note, I'm one of those looking forward to whatever it is you want to do video-wise. When I like an entertainer, I'm pretty much open to whatever they want to do and try.
