if you feel the need to label yourself and involve yourself within a community based off of obsessing over animalistic creatures; you are looked at as a weak minded individual who isn't capable of enjoying an idea without making it a persona. preference has nothing to do with the issue when they sexualize animalistic characters while hating on zoophiles for having the same attractions. its just a hypocritical ideology that they think they are in the right for drawing art of sexualized animals instead of acting on their sexual feeling onto real life animals. even if its art its still unethical. and, unethical behavior can disproportionately harm vulnerable or marginalized populations, exacerbating inequalities and social injustices. so in hindsight, the communities idea of personal preferences are just a closeted attraction that they defend because they are afraid to face the same initial backlash as the zoophile community. just dont be a furry. its that easy just enjoy the art without being looked at as a weirdo. problems solved.

A lot of people stereotype furries as loud, annoying, inappropriate, and zoophilic, but in reality, that’s a very small percent of the entire fandom. I have a lot of friends who are furries and are actually very nice. Just like with literally any fandom, the bad minority is seen larger than the good majority, and because of how giant the furry fandom is, you notice a lot more toxic people.

@@thelaggyone1380 yeah,in fact, a lot of furries would probably tell you about how having a fursuit made with actual animal fur is highly frowned upon, as it could be seen as the equivalent of i dunno, cosplaying using... you know, that's the problem, is that there are a lot of things that furries have as a direct result of what they do that no one else has problems with, like as a furry myself, I haven't gotten a fursuit yet because i still live with family, and it's so expensive and very hard to do yourself and make something even remotely good, but anyways, i tend to try and view everyone as human at a minimum, unless they have done incredibly cruel or criminal things.

I notice most of the average furries that arent too obsessed/deep into the fandom are just regular people. I remember seeing a post on facebook and it had firefighters, lawyers, doctors, and many other working people posing with their fur suits when they raised money for a charity. The real problem lies within the internet. The furry fandom is heavily built around the internet and online network, and the internet is the perfect place for social shutout weirdos to be... which leads those weirdos into the furry community.

I don't consider myself a furry, but I found the topic interesting enough to do my own research about what it is and why people do it. To most, if not all furries, it is simply a hobby. Yes i consider myself a furry only because i like to draw furry characters, but yeah the fandom can be weird at times, its just like any fandom there is bad people. But i do prefer to avoid the fandom because there is a big chunk of bad people. Thank you for doing research :)

I feel like the furry community is severely misunderstood by the entire internet. Like every community, there is a vocal minority that somehow keep getting in the spotlight.

As someone who’s been a furry for about 5 years now, I wholeheartedly agree with all the statements William made. The furry community is just a bundle of different things good and bad, we don’t really have a direct representation because of how varied the views are on this fandom and what goes on within it as a whole. To put it simply: there’s a lot of shit people, like A LOT. but there’s also a lot of good people. So, it’s a 50/50 overall. I don’t generally believe the furry fandom is a good community, but there are good aspects to it that make it redeemable. I stand neutral in all this, but nevertheless, very good video! 👍

I I’m going to be real with you for a moment. I don’t associate with any mainstream furry type stuff but there is a certain appeal to my artistic side about the way artists combine distinctive animal features with humanoid forms to make something unequally theirs. I have many art friends and just a few of them are furies. Making furry art with close friends is something I love to do but when you join a big server you are bound to run into creeps that think they know what it means to be a furry and try to fit themselves in that category when they really shouldn’t be.

Anthropomorphized characters are just incredibly convenient for humans; it's probably why we've had countless depictions in human history like Egyptian gods. Humans like simple and tribalist categories to simplify concepts; and it's really easy to visually distinguish character traits if they're personified in some way. It's why you always see german shepards and think "loyal, protective, police, order" and bulldog and think "tough, thuggish" or an owl and think "wise, old" etc; despite the fact that there are bad german shepards, kind and loving bulldogs, and dumb owls. Especially in art, it's easier to draw personality traits directly into the design of the character rather than need a description to explain what kind of character it is (show, don't tell). The easiest is our cultural encyclopedia of animal personality types. The problem is furries formed a community around this idea and basically hijacked the entire concept. As an artist, I'd like to use some of these concepts in character designs; but I can't really do that without being compared to a furry, despite how little I attempt to apply it.
