As someone whose grown up around family with serious cases of genuine mental illnesses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and panic disorders, and even experiencing some of those myself, It hurts me to no end seeing people use mental conditions to look a certain way for the internet. It’s insane when something that has ruined your entire childhood and negatively influenced how you perceive thoughts and behave is treated like an aesthetic. Despicable.

My mother has bipolar disorder. She has rapid mood swings, they are mostly negative. She is always tired, Lost interest in doing things She feels worthless She wants to kill herself, She also wakes up early, but i dont know if that has anything to do with it. Due to her mostly negative mood swings, she has made me depressed, anxious, and suicidal. But then again i dont think much about her fat shaming me, or saying I’m useless. Because she is my mother and i love her.

me too. I have tons of mental issues but not a lot of psychologists take minors seriously when they do have disorders and so I've gotten to scared to bring up so much with them just because I don't want to be seen as someone who fakes disorders for attention. I'm glad I have anxiety and adhd diagnosis' but some days I question the severity especially because I'm scared to leave my house (possible agoraphobia) and other symptoms from other disorders as well and because of my generation playing around with mental illness like it's cool most people can't get the help we need because random hoes be acting a fool like they quirky and not like other girls smh

What’s always funny to me with the DID ones is how they portray dissociating. I don’t have DID but I do dissociate due to trauma. It’s hard to describe. I get really numb, really apathetic, and kinda hear my own thoughts? Like I feel like I’m reading my thoughts and actions in a book. It’s really dangerous as you kinda lose a grip on reality. Nothing seems real so if you’re driving, that can be really confusing. Dissociation is not bulging eyes and collapsing on a desk.

I don't have DID either but I do dissociate--my neurologist said it's common with people who have the same movement disorder I do as a way to detach themselves from the pain. And for real I'm glad someone pointed this out. I've had conversations with my partner or just lost half a day of work. Like there are real consequences to it and it's not like a few seconds of putting your head down on a table or making a stupid face. I don't know much about real DID though or how switches are supposed to look like, but whatever those kids are doing it's not disassociating. They just look dumb...

I think if they want to imitate DID better (which I don’t agree with don’t quote me on this) they should play Fallout New Vegas Dead Money. There’s a character with DID, a nightkin named God who has an alter named Dog and I think that character really does a good job at representing what people with DID actually go through. It isn’t fun like this people put it out as, it’s very difficult to deal with and many people with the disorder are seen as crazy for their disorder which is sad.

I have a friend who legit had DID but wasn't diagnosed until we got older. We just always wondered why there were days she wasn't herself, you know? And there were too many times when she had "memory gaps" and she couldn't remember what she did or who she met etc. We just thought it was from all the stress from school and her extracurriculars. We were already in college when she was diagnosed. I'm glad people were generally kind to her and were patient with her. Definitely these fakers are nothing like how my friend was. One thing that I always find annoying? "Oh my gosh! I am SOOOO OCD!" Specifically in the context of cleanliness. While being overly/obsessively tidy and clean can be a symptom of OCD, it is not the sole thing that makes you OCD. I am diagnosed with OCD because I have rituals (repetitive habits and routines) that must be done a certain way or I literally throw a tantrum. Another thing is intrusive thoughts that are not helped by my ADHD. It makes falling asleep hard. I don't like people messing with my space without permission. I find myself counting things for no reason at all. There is so much more to OCD than just "everything must be perfect!"

I didn't expect him to be so tuned into the internet and platforms like twitch and tiktok since none of my psychiatrists growing up were really tuned into stuff that people my age and younger are (granted I'm 29 now so I'm not that young either lol) I have diagnosed ADHD...hence why I see a psychiatrist as well as a movement disorder and it's honestly strange to me how GenZ tries to glamorize these sorts of things. Like faking mental illnesses or being paralyzed or having some physical condition isn't cool. Like it's not trendy to have something that can be life ruining :/ Sometimes I wish I never stumbled on to this part of the internet. The knowledge that this crap exists pisses me off.

As someone who's been diagnosed with ADHD since I was eight, it's so frustrating to see people romanticizing it and symptoms associated with it. It's not quirky or cute, and while it does have some benefits such as creativity, it's very disrupting to day to day life. When you are given a task you don't want to do, the part of the brain that would typically light up to make you do said task, will actually shut down. You literally have to fight your brain to do stuff and even then you get offtrack very easily and overall it takes a lot of energy to keep pushing through.

My therapist diagnosed me with DID a few years back, I literally replied 'thats not real'. That girl at 16:30 is so right. You dont have a dominant identity thats still lucid. Your alters dont have cute names from a Wattpad fanfic and full on biographies. You dont even have the awareness to point out the line between 'identities', you definitely dont sort them out into D&D classes with full awareness of how the different characters interact. What you will notice is constantly changing goals and desires. To the point you cant really commit to anything. Abandoning responsibilities and relationships because you simply forget about them. Changes in your voice and mannerisms (youll only notice when others point it out). Lost time, amnesia, and 'waking up' to dangerous situations you know you put yourself in. Unfortunately that doesnt make for good content. It does make for a great excuse though which is partially why I think people pretend to have it. Ive never spoke about this diagnosis to anyone or posted about it. Its just not taken seriously, people instantly think youre lying for clout. But at the same time I dont seek out treatment that I was told I need from a liscenced professional. While the trend is prevalent on tiktok, it didnt start there. Tumblr was really bad for this too. Anytime a 'multiple personalities' movie or TV show comes up, the internet is full of fakery. It was Fight Club, then United States of Tara, then Split. While USofT is the more accurate of the three, its important to recognize that changing names and costuming is meant to be shorthand to prevent audience confusion. When I see these shorthands being done on tiktok, its very clear that theyre recreating something that only exists in television.

As someone who also has it, I agree and disagree. Alot of tiktok DID systems do seem a little.....out there.....but who are we to say some of them don't have it yah know? The quick switches and everyone being so willing to be on camera is what gets me the most. But my partner knows names and personality traits (it's not like a dnd type thing lol) but can easily identify who is out and when. It's not a guessing game for them. And they tell me because they want me to know the full length of what I missed. Also it depends on how severe your DID is. You could have it super terribly bad while someone else has a "functioning " version.

Hey, i've got ACTUAL DIAGNOSED depersonalization, and half of this 'dissociate' stuff shown thru the videos is 100% BS. You can honestly not catch it on camera, because it is provoked by a lack of active conciousness. When you have a camera on, you're of course gonna be concious of yourself mentally and physically, ESPECIALLY for the next 30/60 seconds a tiktok takes. For most of us, dissociating happens most commonly in an area where we are not being engaged directly and have a chance to ponder in thought or solitude,, absolutely not in front of a camera. And your head does not just flop on the mofo table (7:23), you stay sitting up or whatever you were doing, it's a mostly mental sensation. There are HARDLY physical things affected by it. Your brain simply drifts, not hit the fuckin table

A few days ago I had what I like to call "one of my ADHD spikes", in which I get hyperactive and lose control over certain actions (none of them are dangerous, just embarrassing). Problem is, I'm aware that this is happening, but I can't stop it right away: it needs to run its course (usually from 1 to 2 days) and then I regain enough control to settle down. With time and therapy I've managed to collaborate with my ADHD to do stuff I wasn't able in the past (like using my hyperfocus in my job, so my mind doesn't get distracted). It's hard, and these lads and ladies don't understand that this is not a choice, but something you have since birth and for the rest of your life.

@6:13, it’s craaazy that you were able to hold in a “PTSD reaction” until you got to the school bathroom, started recording, and sat down. I have PTSD and the “reactions” (panic attacks) from trauma triggers are near instant and debilitating. Instant anger, instant fear, etc. It physically hurts when this happens, and most people who get them feel like they are going to die. During these panic attacks, it is hard to calm down. It feels like you are back where the trauma occurred, and it happens over and over again on loop. An all-too-convenient alter somehow stopping a tic attack AND a PTSD reaction? Naw son! It would have been more believable if you started chugging a bottle of rum and stared at the wall for ten minutes without blinking. /s It isn’t a trend and it doesn’t make you special. I would never wish PTSD on my worst enemy. I just want things to STOP already. During the day I'm fine, but my nightmares keep the memories alive. I have extremely vivid dreams that feel so real that I'm convinced they happened. I'll wake up tired, stressed and confused. I'll wake up crying, I'll wake up screaming, I'll wake up with a jolt and it's fucking exhausting. Sometimes I can't wake up from the dreams so I have to endure it until my alarm wakes me up. Sometimes I remember what the dreams are about, but sometimes I am lucky enough to forget. But if I feel anxious upon waking I'll know I had a nightmare, and that makes me feel stressed knowing it's happening even if I don't remember the dream. They still affect me. If I see someone who looks like my dad I freeze for a few seconds while I evaluate who that person is. Freezing up is painful. It hurts my neck and my hands. I shiver when I freeze as almost like a physical PTSD. When my dad would yell at me I'd get cold from sweating and start to shiver, so now I still shiver when I freeze or when I'm in trouble (even if it's not serious trouble). It took me years to be able to look people in the eye during any type of disagreement or argument. I used to have to turn my head and look sideways because my dad would yell at me for looking him in the eye. So when I argued with boyfriends I wouldn't be able to make eye contact, it felt too exposing to look people in the eye. That also hurt my neck because my muscles would spasm and make moving my neck difficult and painful. Sometimes I space out and daydream about certain things over and over, memories replaying in my head. You can't control it and it's not pleasant. Sometimes my brain plays scenarios of what would happen if my dad mysteriously showed up where I am. If there's a group of people, I scan the crowd making sure he's not there. I can't NOT do it, I have to do it to know I'm safe. It only takes a few seconds, but I have to do it. I'm always on alert thinking he's somewhere near by. It ruined my relationships because I couldn't trust anyone. It's not glamorous like it is on social media or TV, and a good partner can't make it better. A good partner can help, but they can't make it magically disappear. Only time will heal it if you're lucky. I cannot physically go home to see my family. I've tried twice and it was torture. All my family lives close together so I risk seeing him if I go home to see everyone else. It usually takes a lot of planning and the drive up there is hell. I've just decided that it's better to wait until I find someone I can trust so I don't go home alone. Just the thought of needing to go home makes my skin turn to ice. But then I have to deal with the stress of knowing that my grandparents are getting older and I'm running out of time to visit. And that thought sends me into a panic attack triggered by guilt. There's no easy choice here.... I've been dealing with this since I was a teen and I'm 29 now. I have a majority of my symptoms under control through years of practice, but my sleep ruins me sometimes ...

Then, I had to be taken to a child specialist in the main town to be tested. Until then, I identified as Neurodivergent. I used to say I had ADHD, but until my diagnosis was done, I just said neurodivergent. Now I say I’m comorbid ADHD and ASD.

As someone who was diagnosed with BPD, there is no such thing as “crazy eyes” bro. Some people with bpd will tell you that it’s like being bipolar but on steroids (which is kinda true, at least in some cases). We are stigmatized as being abusive and manipulative, when that’s not the case. It’s torture. It’s not cute. Having bpd doesn’t make you “special”, and I’m tired of seeing people act toxic and rude only to say “it’s the bpd” when in most cases they self diagnosed and are using it as a crutch to behave like shit. And even if you do have a disorder, using that disorder or illness as an excuse to be a terrible person only makes you even more terrible than the stereotype shows. Edit: So since people are getting offended over me calling bpd “bipolar on steroids”, let me rephrase that. The manic and depression phases in bpd happen spontaneously in some cases, and in some others there’s a trigger. Even then, the “switching” and mood swings in bpd happen sometimes within hours, minutes, or days, whereas with bipolar it’s usually in the span of months. That’s what I meant by “on steroids”. I wasn’t implying that bpd is worse or better, but was rather using the term to say that bpd and bipolar are similar in some ways and usually the frequency of the “swings” is one of the key factors to tell them apart. I’m speaking from my own experience and from what I’ve learned in therapy. People’s condition and how they cope with it (as well as the symptoms) aren’t one-size-fits all. Please consider the fact that there’s some people with bpd like myself who have experienced a lot of pain from this, and making as if I have no idea of what I’m talking about (i.e. “bipolar people have it worse”) is just shitty. I’m not bipolar but know a handful of people who are. Some of them have it way worse than I do, some of them are completely functional to the point where you wouldn’t even imagine they’re bipolar. Remember, the fact that there’s people out there who have it worse (there’s always going to be) doesn’t mean that your pain or my pain isn’t valid even in comparison. Edit 2: also saying that bpd is much more tame than bipolar really doesn’t make sense considering the fact that the severity of the symptoms and problems brought about varies from person to person, as well as their genetics and environment. ❤️ Also, I want y’all to Google what the most painful mental illness is and look at the result. Just my two cents. LAST EDIT: Damn bro I’m seeing the people with bpd say “it’s my experience, sorry of how I worded it offended you” and being overall nice and then you have other people here getting offended instead of actually engaging in constructive dialogue. If my comment and my experience offends you so much, then keep scrolling. I’ve thought about deleting this comment but nah, that would literally just be letting all the mean people win and silence my experience along with that of many others. If you think someone could have worded something differently, explain why rather than hurling insults and shit. We’re here to share our own experiences and frankly invalidating each someone’s experience and illness by saying other people have it worse/that we don’t know what we’re talking about (when in fact we do know bpd more than anyone else because we LIVE with it) makes you no better than the people who actually make speaking out about mental health a problem and so stigmatized. I encourage you all to look at all the comments particularly from the people with Bpd who have apologized and explained why a lot of us make the comparison with bipolar (like user Lizzie Sawyer) and how it’s been explained to us. I hope you all find the help you need and have a nice day! ❤️

THIS! My brother too, kanner syndrome / early child autism (in Germany we call it frühkindliches Autismus, I hope i translated it correctly) and especially before puberty and post puberty are the worst phases! I’m really scared that he will kill himself one day he does also bang and punch his head until he get bruises, it actually makes me always cry… he is 19, becoming 20 this year, non-verbal living in a home specially for people like him because my parents couldn’t stand it anymore during puberty, I mean, they also have to work. They love him of course really much and every second weekend he comes home for the weekend or in holidays, also it’s better for him to live there, there are specialists and more people like him. It makes me really mad and sad when I see those “autists” on tiktok complaining about the super cliché of an autist like they can’t look someone in the eyes or express feelings or something, which is just absolutely wrong. I also showed my mum such videos, she is not really familiar with social media, and she never got that mad about that topic. People really think autism is a cool diagnose while the real diagnosed one are being muted and hided in this society… I mean of course there are also autists who can live a normal life but those people will never complain being autistic or complain about others that they don’t see that their autistic. Also many doctors say that every person has autistic traits but that doesn’t make you an autism! I wish only the best to your son, he is very special and is loved ❤️ hopefully REAL autism comes to light in society soon and not that what every second teenager thought up themselves, and finally more help for family with autism and more therapies for autists to take part in society. I don’t know how it looks like in your country but in Germany, mentally disabled people generally, are submerged in this society :,(. And you, please stay strong, I never asked my mum how she ever felt, I was a little kid and she always plays so strong but I know she cries secretly in herself.

As someone with two Masters degrees in Psychology, who is physically disabled, and has a psychosis due to my physical health, it annoys the hell out of me that people feel like it's "cute and quirky" to suffer from a mental disorder. If you can turn your "ticks/symptoms/etc" off and on like a switch then you do not have anything wrong with you. At least not what you're claiming to have. DID is incredibly rare, unless you're on TikTok, then apparently the app causes it in young people. People with DID isn't like playing telephone, where you can just summon whatever alter you want at will to record your video. It just annoys me that these people pretend to have these issues for attention, but if you'd ask someone who actually has those disorders they'd most likely say they'd wish they didn't have them to avoid the constant attention they get because of it.

That’s one of the things that is so frustrating to try to communicate because my best friend was genuinely diagnosed by a doctor with DID, and the way these tik toks portray switching (however I know symptoms can vary) doesn’t seem accurate. Despite having known for years now and developing coping tactics, my friend still struggles to have control with “fusion” or (combining/interaction between identities) and she struggles with long spreads of amnesia because when another identity is present besides her she has no memory of the event, which can last hours, day, even weeks. She describes it as blinking or sleeping and waking up a week into the future not knowing if she went to class or if she went to work. After a switch her first priority is checking her phone and calling her support circle to find out what happened while she was out. And her switches are triggered by trauma, or engaging in situations that relate to a trauma, not just random. After years of doctor support it’s still very debilitating and she has just recently within the last couple years gotten her amount of switches down to a minimum, it happening once in a blue moon of something bad or unexpected happens. However trying to explain that within the internets “mental health” community gets me chewed out 😓

People who have DID don't get much attention because the disorder doesn't manifest like what you see on tiktok. No one would even know I had it if I didn't tell them. The dissociating is the largest part of the disorder and other people can't really tell when someone is dissociating. When I hear someone claiming they have DID and they don't talk about what it's like to dissociate I almost immediately feel as though they might be lying. "Dissociative", it's the first word in the name for the disorder for a reason. According to professionals and the DSM5 you can even have DID with no "alters" instead you will experience an altered sense of self, which means you are experiencing emotions and feelings that don't match your current "mood" etc. Sorry for the rant I just wanted to piggy back off of your "but if you'd ask someone who actually has those disorders they'd most likely say they'd wish they didn't have them to avoid the constant attention they get because of it." because I agree with it and wanted to add that.

@@flowerfabuki4783 I'm sorry I missed your comment, for some reason I never got a notification for it. I hate that your best friend has to go through that, but it's great that she has a great support system and has made progress. It's funny how it seems like all these TikTok DID people watched Split and took all their info from it, except they all forgot the part where the man fully regained his consciousness and had no idea what had been going on the entire time, or what day it was, how long it had been, etc. One thing most of these people have in common is they are all aware of their "alters" and everything the "alters say and do". They more or less consider their actual self as one of their alters. As Rapture commented above, they tend to forget (or more likely, don't know) what the first D in DID stands for as they never suffer from any dissociation. I really hope your friend continues to improve and I hate that there's people that ultimately make light of what she, and other people, actually go through.

This was the first time either of you came across my KZread recommended, but I'm so glad you did!! I'm so sick and tired of people faking illnesses just to get attention. As someone with numerous chronic illnesses who takes 28 pills, 2 liquid doses of medication and I have a permanent port in my chest because I get 2L of lactated ringers + meds by IV infusion *every single day.* I have a handicapped license plate on my van, that is specifically designed to carry my power wheelchair, and my handicapped eligibility never expires. Unlike people who get temporary hanging tags for the mirror with dates stamped on them, my doctors had to fill out a special form for the DMV stating that my illnesses have no cure and to give me the no expiration handicapped tags. And I can't even drive!!! But that's the only vehicle I can ride in because of my wheelchair. I'm just sickened by people who think these illnesses are a joke, or are fun. I tell ya what, I'll GLADLY trade all my illnesses to them so they can feel what it's REALLY like and I'll happily live in obscurity with their good health!! Being chronically I'll is not fun, it's painful, exhausting and it steals your life. The reality is that many friends slowly stop associating with you because they don't like that you have to cancel or reschedule plans due to your health. You can't just randomly pick up and go on vacation, places like amusement parks are no fun and it impacts every part of your life -- not just the silly symptoms that fakers show. Sorry, I got on my soapbox for a bit of a rant there, but I'm just done with this crap. 🤬🤬 And because there's someone that's usually just genuinely curious in every group, I'm 49 years and have been sick since I was in middle school. Here's my list of diagnoses: Narcolepsy with Sleep Paralysis Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) Gastroparesis Hypoglycemia Chronic migraines Hashimoto's Thyroiditis Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJD - from the EDS) Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) Sensory Processing Disorder

I have EDS too, and my brother has POTS. I have the bad type like my Aunty. They're trying to prevent from me having surgeries like my Aunty like wear my padding in my shoes, must drink movicol to help my bowel. And I must take a constant med to help my muscles all over. I've already had a knee reconstruction on my left knee because I was born with a smooth groove. Might have a chance with my right. I nearly dislocate my shoulders when I sleep. I roll my ankles all the time and I have the most tiniest veins/vessels so anything with needles is hard. And my vessels pop so easily. My anxiety attacks are bad because the spasms make you hit yourself or anything. And sometimes when you can't even get up. The most scariest spasms is when it makes my neck lock and I can't move my head at all. And I'm still waiting what more disease I will get because both sides of my family has a whole list of disorders 🥲

I have a relatively rare genetic disorder diagnosed when I was a teen that I inherited from my mother, that I have heard of people being accused of faking (I can’t say for sure if they are, as I never really looked into it). People already don’t understand invisible disabilities which leads to a lot of judgment. For example when I was in high school my physical therapist told me not to participate in an activity in PE class, but my friends seemed to believe I was being dramatic. This makes me judge myself and worry a lot about what people think of me. People actually faking things like this are disgusting. It’s one thing to suspect you have something life-altering- it’s another thing to claim you do and seek out attention for it. People who actually have these conditions now can’t actually raise awareness without the risk of being called a faker. I hope these people face a he consequences of their actions.
