This is one of the most beautiful sad songs ever written
@laurogarza4953
2 жыл бұрын
The writer expressed in rhyme the true nature of major depression and how trauma can cause a person to be overwhelmed, crushed and unable to see life's potential and become suicidal. I believe that when it was said, "Naturally," that he did not mean that these are natural occurrences but rather that "...he is alone, naturally..." because, being deeply depressed and heartbroken, he believes he is not worthy of love and deserves only loneliness and sorrow....naturally. In this song, he felt he was left alone four times, by his fiancé at the altar; by God in his "...hour of need...;" and by the passing of each of his parents.

Agreed! I’ve always absolutely loved this song! At the end he says “that was almost a tear jerker”! Almost? 😥 Haha! The first few verses perfectly set you up to a sad place we can all relate too. Then the line “ my mother god rest her soul, couldn’t understand - why the only man - she ever loved had been taken- leaving her to start- w/ her heart so badly broken” I mean come on? Just wrecks me every time! So damn good!

That’s what happened to me when my father died!
This song is genius. The lyrics set to the whimsical melody makes for one of the all-time greats.
This was an enormous hit when I was in high school, Grammy nominations, the whole ball game. It made us cry then, it makes me cry now.

I am very glad you guys listened to the lyrics. So many songs back in the day were as much about the poetry as they were about the music.

They listened to the lyrics?? Hmm...Not for Most of the song.
Gilbert is a genius writer. In an interview I believe he said he merely put himself in the position of some one who felt this way. That’s genius. This song gets me every time.Great reaction.Thank you!!!!

Saw that interview. None of those things had happened to him when he wrote it.
50 years ago (1972) this song was #1. A song for the ages. It's not sad- it's healing. We will all take our turn dealing with these very sad scenarios. No one leaves this world unscathed.

Well stated sir.
This is one song that every time I sing it, I still choke up through it. Its so simple, but deep and real
This song has always made me cry . I was around 6 when it was released in the U.S. and today at 56 I am still crying.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written that slowly rips your heart out of your chest.
Now do his song Claire!!! It’s a song about his little God daughter and his babysitting experience you HAVE to know the story behind that one because people had dirty minds and was thinking it was about something bad but it’s a sweet song.

Me too and now it's even more poignant
He is not alone. He has millions of fans who love him and his music, me for one. I grew up with his music and have almost all of his albums. Interesting fact, I first heard this particular song when I was in the Russian (then Soviet) Army. I did not know much English, but even so the song touched the strings of my very soul. Thank you for your reaction and God Bless!
Now how about a feel good Gilbert song? "Claire". It's so sweet!

Wow, another song I grew up listening to. As a child, I never listened to the words as much as I did the tune and the vibe. I loved the song, because I knew it was a good song. Honestly, I was reacting to it the way y’all were. It’s a sad song, but it’s the truth. I’ve been divorced twice and a third relationship, all of which were abusive. I am now single! I lost my mother and my father in 2018. I don’t have any children. I have multiple sclerosis and have been on disability since I was 40 years old. Life has changed quite a bit. However, it’s up to me to feel happy or sad. I love this song, but it’s not one I’d listen to every day. I’m so glad that y’all were able to react to it. Luv y’all 💕
This song touches & reaches all generations ❤
Gilbert was an incredible song writer, never really got the praise he deserved ❤❤
Still admiring this amazing song what a great voice and nice melody march 2024 ❤
AN ABSOLUTE MUST HEAR,, SMITH "BABY IT'S YOU"..A TRUE TIMELESS CLASSIC.
I'm now 63 years old and this was a hit in the UK when I was at school. Gilbert was a brilliant singer songwriter. I think you would love his song "Nothing Rymed". Great reaction guys, thank you.
I'm sitting here crying over a song that I haven't heard since I was a kid. It touched me deeply then and even more so now, hearing those beautiful lyrics!
Nothing rhymed ( with lyrics ) - Gilbert O' Sullivan . A masterpiece with incredible lyrics. Amazed hardly anyone has reacted to this emotional song . Give it a go
Gilbert’s song “Claire” is one most are recommending and I would agree.
One of the most beautiful and saddest songs ever written!
A song from my childhood, liked and sung. After 50 years, I understand much more the emotions and meaning of the song. Life happens and there are broken hearts every day.
I loved listening to this late at night in my room when I had gotten my heart broken again. So young and thought I would never hurt worse than that. If only that was as hard as it would ever get. My Soul Mate passed 9 years ago. That trumped every other hurt I had ever had. Still does.
Loved this from the day it was released. Still brings a tear to my eyes.
G o S was such a poet

I can never get through this song without crying.
Still gets me to this day brilliant song🎤🙏👍🏼😞❤️
🙌🙌🙌 great reaction as always… love y’all.
You guys are soooo cool. Every time I see you've reacted something I head right over. As we say in Texas, Y'all be safe.
Most everyone goes through at least parts of this song. It is a beautiful song.
LOVE Gilbert . This is such a great song. More please
You guys..... loved this song since childhood and it has the same affect on me as it did when I was a child.
heavy and honest lyrics...but it is how you feel when you are truly grieving. However, I do know God has never left me tho. Been through too much and I am still here by any miracles and God's mercy:) I love his honesty tho ...this is true song writing
Man this song is so amazing and hits home…
A truly poignant and moving reaction, but because the song starts out so quickly with the ultimate response of suicide, you understandably didn't have a chance to emotionally respond to these initial lyrics. They make the song even more tragic: "In a little while from now If I'm not feeling any less sour I promise myself to treat myself And visit a nearby tower And climbing to the top Will throw myself off In an effort to make clear to whoever What it's like when you're shattered..."

My favourite Gilbert O'Sullivan song is "Claire". I loved it when I was a little girl and named my daughter after it. Take a listen - it's beautiful.
Straight up sad, sad song. Great reaction to a great song. Also try Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks. I believe you'll love that also. Love you two. Peace
Great song by a great irish man he was super
You guys need to check out the video of "The Living Years" by Mike and the Mechanics. A very meaningful song that I believe you will like.

Beautiful BEAUTIFUL SONG 🎵 🎵🎵🎵🎵 Even though It’s a very sad song also. But is definitely BEAUTIFUL 👍👍👍👍👍👍 💙💙💙💙💚💚💚💚💜💜💜
Simple poignant lyrics that bring a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye of all people who have lost a loved one, absolutely nails this emotion.
Hauntingly beautiful song.
Listen to his song Claire
Music gives voice to every experience and every emotion. Here to the tragic view of life--with a light, lilting melody, no less.
Thank you for reviewing this song. It has been my one favorite for 40 plus years.
This song always came to mind after a breakup. My last break up was 2017. I have been single since. Not sure I can date again or if I even want to. I think my heart is broken beyond repair. I wrote a poem about it.
How could you not shed a teer listening to this. Ty 🥲
One of my favorite songs we used to sing in 6 grade music class in 1973.
This song was released when i was so young. I remembered the first time i heard it and i liked the melody and his voice unknowing what it was about. Then when i grew older and heard it again i was in shock about the lyrics and said to myself this is real life. How much time passed since i realized the greatness of this song. And still one of my favorite ever. It still reminds me the first time i heard it and exactly where i was. Good memories, after all.
Thanks, kids - this song almost always makes me cry - but in a good way - so beautiful!
an uplifting melody ...with devastating lyrics
This song could reduce the toughest man to tears. I heard it and I couldn't stop crying.
You both are the best, keep your love strong.
One of my 1st BF's favs. Reminds me of him. Thanx for the memory!
I loved Gilbert O’Sullivan
Upbeat music to a very sad story. Love you guys. You brighten my day.
I have always loved this song so much 🎶🎵
That was such a beautiful review. There is another beautiful heart touching song I hope Mel and Shawn will review. It's called, Everything I Own, by the group called, Bread. It is such a beautiful warm-hearted song.

Hard to go wrong with anything by David Gates and Bread. “If” and “Aubrey” will always be favorites.
U're alone again, after the day is done, naturally. Alone with ur own thoughts. Love u guys.
I promise myself to treat myself And visit a nearby tower And climbing to the top Will throw myself off at 62 years old i'm still speechless at these four lines.
I'm never "alone". Sad so many feel this way. May the peace that surpasses all understanding, be with you.
This is a very honest song that I think every human can relate too.
It's so bright and cheerful and the lyrics are just a gut punch of pain.
Bendita niñez y juventud años 70 y 80...
Brautiful song
This song always made Me cry!
Seeing this singer from my childhood tomorrow
50 years later and moving another generation to tears , genius !
Such a sad, sad song.
This song makes me cry every time. Every single time. There's a few that can touch me as deep as this one can.
How lovely is this song ? Beautifully written , played and sung … nuff said 👍🏴
The real title of the song is "Alone Again Naturally". Huge hit in the 70's. Another song you should check out: Claire. It's about his little daughter. I'm surprised guys that so far, you haven't heard of the new genius singer Angelina Jordan. She's been blowing minds since she was 7 and today she's 15, 16 next January. Check her covers among the 150 + she's done. And if you are in anyway jazz fans, she's the one for you.

This really is a beautiful song. I can empathize with every word .I just lost the only since love I ever had in my life. My husband died Aug. 5th 2022. I am truly alone.
Cry when I watch this masterpiece ❤️👍🎸🎶🎤
I admire you more as I watch more reactions. You are good caring people. Lost my dad when I was 23...that was 33 years ago. My mom passed 12/10 this year. They were soulmates. They're together again.
we are never alone we have the Love of God his grace, mercy and hope in Christ.
About the most real reaction ever. Thanks!
I swear this has to be one of the saddest songs I've ever heard, but every word spoken is so true. It used to come on the radio frequently and was quite the hit!
understand this song from time to time
Best played through without breaks…then go back and explore the song paying particular attention to its strong qualities I.e. the music, and the lyrics
Beautiful song but oh so sad.

I cry every time, I grew up on this
The genius of this song is that the melody gets in your head and the words go to your heart....and it won't leave
I have always loved this song. Thank you for your reaction.
Your a beautiful couple guys,we all love yous
Can't believe he just made me cry again.
My gosh!! the wedding part that didn't happened that day is really shattering
This song still hits home. We have all asked. God why even today.
I love this song.
1972.....a huge hit in Italy !!!
Beautiful.
A light class song but with a very heavy meaning. With some excellent guitar playing. Good reaction you two, Greetings From Down Under. Listen to his song "Clair", that will put a smile on you both, the laugh at the end is magic.
It is a sad song, but it reflects the awful things that enter every life. He's providing an expression in song and poetry to acknowledge the pain people are going through every day.
