A must listen by Gilbert O'Sullivan is All They Wanted To Say. It's about all the people who were facing death on 9-11. The lyrics are very powerful.

@@jimpierce3138 Thank You....I just listened to it for the 1st time and it was GREAT, O'Sullivan has as a great style to me such that I knew I would like it.
Everyone thinks this song is about Gilbert ,.. but during an interview he said when writing it,.. he simply put himself in the position of a person who felt this way. That is genius writing. Never gets old. Timeless,….Great reaction,.. Thank you,… you made my day with this one.

Hmm. He said that but there were a lot of parallels with his life at the time.

There were a lot of references of his life in this song. I belief it is heavily influenced by his life
You almost never stop hearing the piano in this song, it's driving the rhythm.
Nothing about this song goes over anyone's head because the lyrics are profound and clear. All one has to do is listen. It is about the song not the background, not the colors. It is about pain and loss and emptiness. Usually one listens to the entirety before issuing a broad critique. One failure after another, one heartbreak after another made this song what it is. Magnificent journey through heartbreak. Too many interruptions at important junctions causes a misunderstanding.
Gilbert O'Sullivan (Real name Raymond Edward O'Sullivan) in an interview, said this song was not about his life. It was just an idea that he came up with and wrote. "Alone Again (Naturally)" is an introspective ballad, starting with the singer contemplating suicide after being left at the altar after his bride deserted him, and then telling about the death of his parents. O'Sullivan has said that the song is not autobiographical, as he did not know his father (who died when O'Sullivan was 11) very well, and that his father had mistreated his mother. Also, his mother was still alive when the song was written.
Loved his songs in the seventies! He was huge then.
I enjoyed your comments about a song I grew up with by Gilbert O'Sullivan
Classic 70s song. Still on my playlist
Strangely enough, this song brings a degree of comfort to me. It reminds me of a line in "Bittersweet Symphony" by the Verve........."I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me yeah"
great song
He got bars!?!? 🤣😂😂🤣
Thank you for all of us that want to be alone Scotty
Dope - thanks for sharing
Nup didn't go over my head !!!! The words pretty much give you the feeling of the songs intent.. all the extra stuff you are trying to explain isn't needed.. but heh I'm no musical expert. When you said about the black & white background & that you wouldn't go there but some may!! Nup again, I have known this song for yrs and watched the clip many times- not once did I look at it and see b&w anything it was just a clip of Gilbert singing !! You saw that!
Brilliant lyrics so perfectly crafted ( worth checking vid with lyrics included as it's so easy to miss the subtle rhyme and placement). It's a heartbreaking song that highlights the saddest of times we will all experience to some degree
Up there as one of the saddest songs ever written I'd say. Lovely tune to suit the lyrics too.
Throughout my childhood, in the early 80's, I remember going to grocery stores, department stores, or a pharmacy, and the instrumental version was a popular shopping/elevator music track. The song is cheerful and melancholy at the same time, yet simply calming.
I enjoyed what you said about alone again naturally it does make you feel good and yet it's such sad lyrics excellent.
Great reaction!
Get down tonight! That was a real up beat song by him!
..... We always have to remember when it was composed ......70's ........ the inspirations were different ......... however ..... ...... the music is simply beautiful .......... the power music is in it ........ emotion ........ Top of the US charts for 6 months .............
First time on your channel. In terms of empathy and your discussion of (not just) the lyrics, rhythm, and writing this was one of the finest reaction or review videos of “Alone Again (Naturally)” that I have seen. Thank you. I will be looking through others you have done.
classic song from great singer song writer
Claire is about his manages daughter at that he used to babysit for it's a great song check it out
Nothing Rhymed is a great one from Gilbert.
This song doesnt make me feel good, it has made my cry ever since it came out in '72, and now at 75 I have been through a lot of what he talks about. You are the first reactor I have seen to this song that has said the song makes you feel good. Everyone else said it was extremely sad, and all the people who commented on it said it made them cry.

I Think it's the Piano-Beat, However I COMPLETELY AGREE! This is the Saddest Song EVER, and ALWAYS makes me cry since I first heard it at 10 years old. Ironically, my "feel good" song then was "Brandy" That this song jockeyed for top spot #1 on The Charts that Summer] [probably the near ONLY one I had in 1972--It was my most depressed childhood year] Brandy is the song that gave Alone the most competition at jockeying for top Billboard spot #1 on The Charts that Sad Summer. Brandy was near the top #1, when SUDDENLY "Alone" [came from behind, RACED to the top #1 spot] & denied Brandy the #1 Spot. Not to be outdone, Brandy hung out at #2 for 4 weeks, bide-ing it's time and then BAM! "Brandy" "MAM"ed if you will, Alone & replaced "Alone" [MAM records-get it?], Denying Alone 7 STRAIT weeks at #1 ["Alone" got 4 & 2 Instead] Dividing it's full run at #1. Making "Brandy" finally get to #1 itself, for 1 week, before "Alone" RECLAIMED the #1 Spot. These 2 Songs could not be further apart in mood--"Brandy", Fun and lively [although the story is also kind of sad-lost love], And "Alone Again" is the heart 💔breaking saddest song EVER😭. Yet I could not wait to hear EITHER come on the Radio, that Summer 72 So I have NEVER heard this song described as a "feel good" song.

@@byron5151 Wait so you're telling the charts in those weeks looked like Alone Again, Brandy, and Long Cool Woman? I was looking up stuff about that one and found that it was denied the number 1 spot by Alone Again. What a fucking time for music.
@byron5151

@@althealligator1467 No Alone Again & Brandy BOTH hit #1. It's just that Alone Again, out ran, Brandy to #1 up the charts, dominated it, but Brandy was also so good, that Alone Again Stepped down to #2 for ONE week, letting Brandy have it's week at #1 throne, only to RE-take the #1 Again for 2 more weeks. Alone Again was the #1 Song of Summer 1972, but Brandy was not far behind--I loved them both. Not as much a fan of Long Cool Woman, but I recall likeing it too back then.
You have just witness CLASS ...check he's other songs...a Master of lyrics.....
One of the best

You bet!
This is his best work i.m.o
Listen to Matrimony or Claire both by him.
This song was popular when i was young, but now ,at 60, it takes on a whole new meaning, looking back over those 50 or so years...
First when I discovered the song I liked the lovely and catching melody Gilbert's voice is unique. The true lyrics you discover later on. In Holland this song had it's own lyrics sung by entertainer Gerard Cox 1948 as title. About the simplified society we lived in during the fourth year after WW II.
This is a great reaction to a great song! You should check out On and On by Stephen Bishop.
Wordplay never goes over Irish heads. It's how we, few enough of us, managed to survive under brutal occupation.
I Love Gilbert O'Sullivan. He sings with such sincerity and if you are hiuman, you understand what he was going through.
I heard the piano more than I heard anything else until he stopped playing
i worked with a woman who told me if she ever met Gilbert she would slap him across the face. lol. tough song.
I think you might have completely missed the core of this song. It's a poem, set to chirpy music -"Life goes on". Lyrics are very profound.
Black and White stripes? Not going there? WTH?
Who’s cutting onions?
What the heck, word play, black and white stripes, going over our heads, this is a simple and beautiful song about loss and despair, you were reading waaaaay to much into it trying to make it into a song with hidden meaning when it was pretty straightforward, this had to be the weirdest reaction of seen to this song

Can't believe the way this CLASSIC has been constantly interrupted! And talking to listeners as if they're dumb...Hmmm, maybe listen 1st, then critique. Your audience remembers this Song, hence why My Generation put out Classics like this.
Sadø-ly they don't make songs like this anymore.
you are wrong.. there is no play on words, rather playing with words to coldly distinguish how low he feels against the warmth of a catchy tune
👌
Claire was also a beautiful song of his but probably would not go down to well nowadays
Very triggering song. Love and peace to us all humans.
What were you listening to? Not this song for sure.
Bro you missed a great song if you were thinking about racism.
Sad you would incinuate see a racist tone to this video due to the background. Rather than let your soul enjoy a beautiful song you bring your your bias to it. Not good.😢 Do better for everyone!
You interrupted too much and missed a lot of the nuance of this song. Your commentary chopped it up and it didn't get the audience that this great song deserves!
Blah blah mate.
Too bad the lyrics went over your head. Your juvenile opinions don't help.
