Cannot upvote this enough! Or at least-please-do them in order, and listen back to some of the prior song to get some of the vibe back! And don't cut off the intros/outros-listen to the whole thing from a real album version! This version was a re-edited mess. ☹

This is an EXTREMELY weird mashup with strange cuts. The actual version is about 2 and a half minutes consisting of instrumentals and 2 verses with no repetition. Regardless, you definitely need to react to Dark Side Of the Moon as a whole in one setting. As much as you appreciate Pink Floyd now, it makes things 1000x more impressive. Love your reactions!

As mentioned by others, Dark Side of the Moon is not an album that you listen to songs off of... it's a work of art in the form of an album. Tracks lead into each other weaving the musical and lyrical story and you'll never get the full experience just listening to individual tracks. This is the epitome of "album rock" so please do it justice by covering the entire album in one session. You won't be sorry.

You are spot on but the very thing that makes it great causes a big dichotomy for me, in that there is no doubt it is a masterpiece, but it is not as listenable or accessible as other Pink Floyd albums, it is one you have to be in the mood for, unlike Wish You Were Here, which I could listen to all the time.

Trance-like states induced by music are very real. Pink Floyd was great at taking you there faster, and in a deeper way, than just about anyone modern. This state is really what jam bands are all about; they take you to a deeper understanding of the music by giving the melody time to simmer in the brain.

The thing about Dark Side Of The Moon is that while every song is great on it's own the album really should be heard in its entirety more, I think, than any of their others. By the way, this is an odd, edited version, with bits missing or overly repeated. You should go with the full album version with the iconic "home" section at the end of Breathe: "Home, home again. I like to be here when I can. And when I come home cold and tired, I like to warm my bones beside the fire. Far away, across the fields, the tolling of the iron bell, calls the faithful to their knees, to hear the softly spoken magic spell." It then merges beautifully into "The Great Gig in the Sky". kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHiK15uvdpiwY7w.html

This is one of those songs that helps you understand why hippie types would tune their TV to a movie and turn the sound off while the audio was provided by songs like this. If only for your own edification, you really want to listen to the whole album through continuously (or as continuously as three energetic kids will allow). But I really think you'd get good viewership doing some special shows featuring whole albums like this one, Sargent Pepper's by the Beatles, and Days of Future Past by the Moody Blues.

The intro of this song reminds me of being on the ocean. The way the instruments are played makes me feel as though I'm out at sea. And the deeper into the song the music and way the vocals play makes me feel waves coming up in a beach, and at other moments I feel the ebb and flow of the tide. "Taking you in a trip" and "mind altering" are very accurate ways to explain this song, and most of this album. This album remained on the Billboard listing for an UNBELIEVABLE length of time! Kinda surprised it's still not on it. But Pink Floyd always has several songs listed when a "rock" station does their "100 (or higher) Top Rock Song In History" countdowns every New Year's Eve/Day. One group I'm sorry I never got a chance to see live.....tickets were always sold out before I could get one.

What people miss out on, with the rise of Apple Music and the ability to pick and choose songs off of albums out of context, is the "flow" of the music from one song to another in proper order. Some albums, esp. Floyd's, are designed to be listened to one side at a time, giving you a whole picture/film musical experience, rather than a single single snapshot. I recommend listening to certain albums at least one full side at a time. Beatles Abbey Road, Sgt Peppers.. Floyd Darkside of the Moon, the Wall, Eagles Desperado, Queen A Night at the Opera, etc. Although its' great to listen to individual songs, you really do miss a lot sometimes because you're not exposed to the album as a whole.

I believe that whole Dark Side Of Oz thing was started by Mark & Brian on KLOS radio out here in LA. Someone out here started that. Pink Floyd have always maintained that the album had nothing to do with the movie. I've done the Dark Side Of Oz. It is crazy in some parts how the music matches up, but you're left scratching your head in other parts. I think it's all just coincidence. I've never heard this version of Breathe. It's basically the song repeated twice. It's not that way on the album.

@@paulb4604 It makes no sense. Think about the logistics that would have been required to do this in 1973. There was no home video back then, so they would had to have acquired a film print of the movie from somewhere, and had a projector in the studio. Nobody involved in making the record says that ever happened.
