As a die hard Babymetal fan for nearly 10 years, I hope to see you do more Babymetal reactions. Gimme Chocolate is about a girl who likes chocolate but is worried about getting fat. In the end she decides to eat it anyway because she's worked hard and she feels she deserves it. Can't get more metal than that!

FYI this was done in december 2013 the day after the lead singer turned 16. the other two were 14 years old. they were formed in 2010 before a lot of other Japanese bands you have mentioned. Babymetal is like the gateway to other Japanese bands. Babymetal opened the door to the west for Japanese bands to be accepted. the lyrics are talking about females wanting to stay slim but they love chocolate so it is kind of fighting between the loosing weight or eating what you like no matter what. the band was formed around the lead singer first. this song actually had a fake band because early in their career they couldn't afford a live band but later in this show the real band played the last five songs and they never used the fake band again. they are more a performance band than anything. they have done so many different genres and still good at all of them.

Not just trend-setters. These 3 little girls shattered the wall of isolationism that the Japanese music industry was notorious for in 2014 with this viral video to provide the path for bands like Band-Maid, Nemophila, Hanabie and so on to gain international attention. To see when Babymetal gained international validation, watch "Ijime, Dame, Zettaii" live at Sonisphere 2014. 🤘🦊🤘

I don't know why Baby Metal fans always recommend "Give Me Chocolate" as the first song to introduce them to new viewers. "Headbanger", "Road of Resistance" or "Pa Pa Ya", for instance, would be far more indicative of what they do. This song is from their early years when they were doing mostly lighter fare.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey 🦊🤘🔥 I'm always glad to see more reactors getting into this amazing group. They were rocking out the whole World Tour 2023 and everyone were having a blast with the setlist, the new songs from latest album and the classic hits, especially GC! either you hate or love it, is a song with crazy amount of views and they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist. This song is having 10 Years anniversary and recently they released a GC! Challenge clip on social network, a lot of fans are having so much fun. Dance choreography and metal had never been seen before and they somehow managed to make it works creating their unique own genre called kawaii-metal, mixing Jpop (not Kpop) and heavy metal along with many more sub genres and rhythms, you'll have so much fun going through this journey. This isn't actually live sound, is studio album version over a live performance which was partially live only on the vocals and choreography with backing track sound. They have their own band called Kami Band introduced later on that same show and after that Kami Band become regular at live performance but they're not official members, only these trio are the front women. BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. This was in December 2013 at SuMetal 16th Birthday, the other girls had 14 yo and there was a big party you have seen nothing yet, wait for _"Babymetal Death"._ The backing band here are called "baby-bones", they don't actually play they're just mimicking air playing instrument, later on this same concert and after 2014 you'll see the girls performing with a real band called the Kami Band, more of them later. Some recommendations for next songs like: - _"Road Of Resistance"_ live in Japan official. - _Megitsune_ official MV. - _Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!_ live at this same live performance Legend 1997 in Makuhari Messe Japan when SuMetal is celebrating her birthday becoming a metal goddess queen and leaving her idol jpop form (you can find one at Gans Tomas channel under "Head Bangya" title). You have more than 60 songs to discover. Amuse their label is very hard to deal so if you want to avoid copyright blocked you have "Babymetal Reactor Resource" channel you'll get full original clips of their best live performance with watermarked logo safe to react, look for "Future Plans" vid, follow instructions and you'll get all of them, upload the one with the logo for us and you can watch without it, don't worry for us we already saw all of them. I'm gonna try to leave in my next comment where to get safe clips to react if YT allows me to do it. See you next time! 🦊🤘🍫

Nice reaction :) This song is around 10 years old and is about a teenage girl who loves chocolate but is afraid of gaining weight. This was my first introduction to BabyMetal and at first I wasn't sold on it either. But then a couple of days later I realized I had the lead singers voice still stuck in my head and I felt bad about judging a band on just one song, so I tried them again. I can't remember if it was the Megitsune studio mv or Headbanger live at the legend of 97 (The year Su, the lead singer, was born. She's 26 now) concert but I was blown away. I'm a huge fan now. This is an extraordinary band with 4 studio albums (The latest came out last year) and a ton of live material. I strongly urge you not to give up on them!

The girls had already been performing with the parent idol group Sakura Gakuin for years and were already consummate professional performers before Babymetal's first headlining concert. Yes, they practiced alot, but not as much as we think they do because they were already doing synchronized choreo with Sakura Gakuin. Many of them can learn the entire choreo in an hour, and just practice from there. The girls of Sakura Gakuin were among the most talented girls at Amuse, hence they were selected to be in Sakura Gakuin.

Babymetal is an offshoot of the idol training school/group called Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin, often shortened to SG, had several different themed clubs/groups with Babymetal being the heavy metal club. Babymetal was built around Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto), the tallest and oldest of the three girls you see here. The other two are Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi), fellow graduates of SG who were chosen for Babymetal because of their similar height, appearance, and voices. Their look, at least during these days, is called "Gothic Lolita," while BAND-MAID wears modified maid costumes based on maid cafes in Japan. The "band" behind them are actors in suits. They were called Babybones and mimed to the music on a backing track; this is because Babymetal didn't have the biggest budget when they first started out. This is actually the last show that the Babybones appeared. After this show, they were permanently replaced by the Kami Band, a rotating lineup of highly-skilled musicians. Babymetal has released studio four albums and a ton of live concerts. Yuimetal left the group in 2018 due to undisclosed health reasons and has seemingly fallen off the face of the planet. Other backups dancers filled in for Yui, the most prominent of which were a rotating trio called The Avengers. Two of the Avengers quietly drifted away from Babymetal and moved on to other projects, but the third, Momoko Okazaki, was made the third member of Babymetal in April 2023 and dubbed Momometal. That's the nutshell version of Babymetal's history. They have a lot of diversity in their songs, so don't expect all of their songs to sound like this. Also, don't make up your mind about the group based on this one video. They have a lot to offer and are one of the most addictive groups I listen to.

BABYMETAL equals fun. They mix every genre you can think of with metal and Jpop and give you a one of a kind experience you won't find anywhere else. They are more of a performance group than they are a band. Their early songs, like this one, are silly and fun and aimed more at young girls. Their second album is harder and with more adult themes. Their third album is experimental with world and ethnic music, mixing everything from Celtic to Indian to Rap and everything in between. Their fourth album is a concept album and is pure progressive metal at it's core. No two songs are alike. Don't judge on just this song. Please!

So, BABYMETAL is innovative in a number of ways and one of the most interesting things to happen in metal in the last decade or so (they have been going strong since 2010). They invented their own metal sub-genre, a mixture of J-Pop elements with metal elements called Kawaii Metal (meaning "cute" metal). They were the first to combine J-Pop style choreography with metal musicality. Their band structure is also unique. They are backed by top-tier metal musicians called the Kami Band, which consists of Japanese session players, whose members sometimes rotate in and out. At this point, their are actually two Kami Bands - the original Japanese Kami Band, and also the Western Kami Band, which is made up entirely of American musicians. "BABYMETAL" is technically just the three vocalists by the way. As with many Japanese bands, they do incorporate a lot of English in a number of their songs. They also have quite a few songs sung entirely in English - "Believing" being the most recent example of this from their most recent album (their 4th full length album) titled "The Other One." At this point and upon releasing their fourth album, musically, they have begun to move away from the cuter elements of the past and have become more and more "mature" metal band. Like you, a lot of people might not consider their older stuff to be something that they would listen to on the regular, but their more recent stuff I think many people would consider adding to their metal playlists, so you should check out their more recent stuff. I'm sure some other commenters here will make some further recommendations in any case. Anyway, I recommend checking more of them out. They have a tendency to really grow on most everyone, as they are ultimately just a kick ass band doing something no one else does, and they are legendary as being one of the best live performing musical acts in the world today.

Probably worth mentioning Babymetal just performed with Bring me The Horizon with Kingslayer live in Vegas at the Sick New World Festival. This wasn't a one off either but a genuine collaboration over 3 years in the making. It's a brilliant performance of which has only been performed twice live. The other time was in Japan at Next_Fest last year. Bring me the Horizon has an official video of the performance in Japan on his KZread page. They also just recently dropped a new single & collaboration with Thai Rapper F-Hero and Thai Rock Band Bodyslam called Leave it all behind. Might be their best yet and we aren't even into summer yet lol. 🤘🦊

BabyMetal will always hold a special spot for me because the algorithm led me from them to Band Maid. In fact, it was “Gimme chocolate!!” as my intro. I had never heard or imagined the combination of fast and heavy metal with Jpop vocals. It made me smile. Not my thing, but I immediately knew they deserved a big audience. Very creative and unique. Babymetal, to me, is heavy metal theater. As a proper band of musicians, I went for the Band Maid route. But eternally grateful to Babymetal for opening up the Japanese rock scene for me

Your's is a very common first reaction, especially to "Gimme Chocolate", which is their most polorizing song. I always say this song is the narrowest gate into the vast garden that is BABYMETAL. You should try one of their newer songs, perhaps MONOCHROME, to see another side of the newer, more mature BABYMETAL. Kitsune dao!

BABYMETAL started in 2010 and had a goal to create heavy metal music that young girls could relate to. Gimme Chocolate is about wanting to eat chocolate but worrying about their weight. In this video, the concert is celebrating the lead singer's, Su-metal, 16th birthday.🤘🦊🤘

  • @timgove5337
    @timgove53374 ай бұрын

Self proclaimed “metal dance unit” formed around main singer Su’s voice, with the other two chosen for matching pixie-ish-ness. Brought together by a metal-loving kids’ show producer when they were already veterans of stadium shows at ages 11 to (almost) 13, think summer before 6th grade. This was Su’s 16th birthday extravaganza (other two 18months younger), 3years together and although being BabyMetal meant they had started over playing cafes & such, they had made it back to arenas. Those first three years they danced and sang to a DJ (with actors miming instruments), this roughly marks their transition to using live musicians (now that they could afford the best), which helped propel them to international stardom. Great story, groundbreaking entertainment ‼️🤘🎸💃😎 And yes, Japanese use a native phonic alphabet, as well as all Chinese characters (but with Japanese pronunciations), plus the Latin/Roman/Romance (English) alphabet, plus a second unique Japanese alphabet that incorporates foreign-to-their-phonetic-alphabet sounds (as with this title, Gimme Chocolate). It’s actually fairly easy to pronounce and hear (simple, in ways that Spanish is simpler than English), but ya, the written language is tough

The group don't have a fixed band, hence the band is makeup and/or wearing masks. As I understand it, the band is not even traveling with them on tours but instead they recruit locals however, I not too sure about that fact. I just know that if you look closely, the different musicians very between different concerts. It is all about the group of girls. The lead singer is the same but also the dancers can sometimes vary but not so often.

  • @Crazael

The reason their vocals sound so different from normal heavy metal vocals is because their vocal style is more of an Idol style, which has a lot of emphasis on being cute and friendly and is usually a more Pop sound. Their shows are also much more Idol-style and so there's lots of dancing and moving around and absolutely huge crowds.

Oh, man! You have started on a journey that I really hope you will continue. It's scientifically proven that listening to Babymetal makes your life much better. 🦊🤘 As you said, they are very young in this video. You should definitely listen to some of their later songs also. I would recommend Monochrome, both the live version from PIA Arena and the acoustic version from F1rst Take. And you will never stop getting surprised what their music will sounds like. It's most often heavy AF, but they are not afraid of experimenting. The girls in this video was Su-Metal as the singer, and Yui-Metal and Moa-Metal on scream and dance. Yui-Metal had to leave the band in 2018, so Su and Moa went on as a duo for a while. After a hiatus they came back and has been joined by a new 3rd member, Momo-Metal. Like I said, I recommend the PIA version of Monochrome cause that's the first concert where Momo-Metal was official member. You can see how happy they all are to get back on stage as a trio, you can see that Su-Metal and Moa-Metal, welcomes Momo-Metal in, and also the audience welcomes Momo-Metal. Also, probably tears, cause even if it is a happy song, it tends to make people emotional. They've also done a collaboration with Bring Me The Horizon with the song Kingslayer. It got made during the pandemic, but suddenly the girls appeared at a concert in Japan. Let's just say it got wild. The live video is very worth a look. Also, they have crucified Su-Metal four(?) times on stage. Actually they did it as the ending of the concert you just watched with the song Babymetal Death, and yeah, you should check it out. But remember it's #NotACult. 🦊🤘 I'm no expert, so I will stop now, but I'm sure some other member of The One/Foxhole will do a long comment with loads of recommendation and tell you about the lore. Oh yeah, there's lore, LOTS of lore. Also, I'm 52, went to my first concert with them last year. Happiest moment of my life for years, jumped around like a madman at times, cried a little in there, but had a FANTASTIC experience. The connection the band and the audience have is somewhat magic.

1:14 Japanese Kana characters are syllabic, meaning that most characters are what would be a consonant and a vowel. There are characters for the English equivalents of vowels and one character for the English equivalent of "n." This video was shot the day after the lead singer's (Su-Metal) 16th birthday. The other two girls (current member Moametal and past member Yuimetal) were 14 1/2. The opening lyrics basically translate to da da da da da...

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Japanese writing is... Complicated. They have tree writing systems, Hiragana and Katakana are phonetic (symbols are directly related to sound, in their case, a symbol is a spillable made of a consonant+vowel, except the 5 basic vowels, which are one per symbol, and the consonant n, which has also a consonant-only symbol besides the n-syllabic symbols) syllabaries used contextually; then they have an ideographic (hyerogliphic like) catalog, derived from Chinese writing called Kanji. Kanjis are written in pairs, and each Kanji has 2 possible pronunciations (made of two syllables each, phonetically), making for 4 possible pronunciations per pair; with each pronunciation having a different meaning. And this is before accounting for homophones. Oh! And meaning is extremely context-depending, so some words have *radically* different meaning depending on where, when, why, how and who says them! Yeah... Japanese writing is... Difficult. Regarding their dresses, they go by a style called 'goth loli', popular among many Japanese girls. Oh! And they have been around for a looooooong time by now. You should check their history, it's really cool!

This was more or less a 2 part concert. The band here isn't really playing. They were a mime band but the live Kami Band was past the halfway mark Calling them uber musicians is an utter understatement. You can see them in the Rondo of Nightmare live, which is a straight up heavy metal song. They do their own instrumental piece of music before the song begins. Gimme Chocolate was one of their more silly songs, if you will. Road of Resistance Live from Japan will put all doubts to rest whether they are a heavy metal band or not. There are other more recent versions but that is the GOAT of all of their lives.

I suggest finding their music as early as you possibly can, I believe they started in 2008 to 2012, but it's been a while since I've seen an early video. Note: the front woman at that time had a gastric issue that took her life. And while others in the group stepped up to fill her spot, it wasn't until they found Angelina 7 1/3, (names are a Japanese thing here), the young lady with pink hair, in more recent performances. Enjoy.

These katakana are "GEE MEE CHO KO" or "Gimme choco," and abbreviation for chocolate. So yeah, it's technically English written in Japanese characters.

Babymetal is Japan's #1 International Group with #1 Albums in the USA on Billboards "Top Rock Album" chart and the "UK Rock" chart!! They have been turning the Metal World on its Ear for more than a Decade now!! Ages in this video...Suzuka just turned 16 the day before this show and Yui and Moa were both 14. This show in Dec. 2013 was the last time(*) that "Babybones" played with Babymetal. Babybones was a "Fake" band that accompanied Babymetal as they sang and danced to a "Backing Track"...as Babymetal could not always afford a Live Band early on in their career. The "Kami Band" is Babymetal's "Real" Live Band that had played Encore's for shows since 2012 but became the Full Time Band starting with the Budokan shows in March of 2014, More Babymetal Always!! Haha great reaction, and welcome to Babymetal! They are 13 year veterans now who started in 2010 at age 12/11. This was a Dec 2013 performance for lead Su-metal’s 16th birthday. Yuimetal and Moametal are 14 here. This was a fun and goofy song about girls wanting chocolate, but worried about gaining wait. But they’ve worked so hard, so some chocolate pleeeease! 🤣 Babymetal is rooted in heavy metal, fusing with j-pop vocals and a plethora of other genres. Their trademark is their amazingly energetic and hard hitting live performances. Suggestions: *Awadama Fever (Fox Festival 2017):* “Gimme Choco” upgraded, but bubble gum, and with a band intro. *Catch Me If You Can (Budokan 2014):* “Baby” and “Metal” cranked up to 100. *Road of Resistance (Official Live):* Less “Baby”, more “Metal”. A serious, and epic anthem. *Rondo of Nightmare (Budokan 2014):* Dark, heavy, and ominous. Lead Su-metal’s solo, and an epic band showcase. *Metali (Official Live):* Fun and heavy, but a more grown-up, mid-20s Babymetal. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine contributes with his unique guitar solos. Hope you do more Babymetal! 🤘🦊
