Peace, Love and Understanding is my favorite song of all time. It is written by his good friend Nick Lowe, which Elvis acknowledges. When in a concert with Nick he says "This is a song that Nick wrote and I stole."

Nick Lowe produced the MAIT album. I saw Nick & Dave in concert twice once with Paul Carrack. OMG.

This and Watching The Detectives and Red Shoes are his best. Watching The Detectives should be your next Elvis Costello song.

Elvis is a genius. Over his whole career he's probably done every genre known to man. After all his great albums, I still have a soft spot for this one. An absolute classic. I agree that Watching the Detectives should be next just keep riding that Elvis train!

Elvis is married to Diana Krall, a Canadian jazz pianist and singer. She is incredible. In 2002, she released "Live in Paris." I know you don't react to much jazz but her opening song, "I Love Being Here with You" is definitely worth a listen.

Two suggestions for your next Elvis Costello song: “Watching the Detectives” and “Veronica”, that second one was co-written by Paul McCartney (one of a group of songs the two have co-written, McCartney’s “My Brave Face” is another one worthy of a reaction, too).

The "Spike" album is absolutely brilliant stuff. The collaboration between EC and Paul McCartney just worked so well.

One of the very best Elvis Costello tunes, such a classic. Backyard playlist all day. You should check out Everyday I Write The Book next. It's more of an old old school R&B sound, but also backyard playlist worthy.

Jay & Amber, you'll love his "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" and "Watching The Detectives" !!

Oh boy, Elvis' catalogue is absolutely huge. Try 'Every Day I Write the Book', 'She', 'Watching the Detectives', 'Oliver's Army', 'Shipbuilding', 'God give me strength' and anything from his album with Burt Bacharach.

I love Elvis Costello! His version of the song "She" is so beautiful and definitely my favorite.

Probably one of the best love songs ever written & he sings it with such great emotion. I always tear up hearing that one. J & Amber need to watch Notting Hill too. Great movie.

Pure angry passion, my favorite song by him.

Literally every song on the first 3 albums are all bangers! Alison is off the first album, My Aim True. Red Shoes, Watching The Detectives, and Blame It On Cain are standouts on a masterpiece of a debut.That's a good start. His has so much great music. Elvis Costello is truly a treasure of a musician and songwriter.💯🎶🎶🎸😎

In terms of classic Elvis Costello, I definitely recommend “Radio Radio,” “What’s So Funny Bout Peace, Love and Understanding,” “I Don’t Want to Go to Chelsea” and one of my favorites, “Deep Dark Truthful Mirror.” And for a deeper cut, and somewhat left of center song, “I Want You” is really good. His voice is highlighted so well in it.

It’s not his most popular single but as a Summertime request I would love y’all to do Elvis Costellos “The Other Side of Summer”. Highly underrated single

Oliver's Army is another Costello song worth having a look at..It's a song about the Conflict in Northern Ireland which lasted 30 year from 1960 known as The Troubles

My Aim is True being the name of the album this was featured on

This song is actually about his desire to kill her out of jealousy. He “can’t stand to see her this way “. He’s going to “ put out the lights” and his “aim is true “ . When I first heard this song , many moons ago, I thought it was a love song as well. It was in an interview that I heard him talk about the darker side of love.

Not according to EC, he stated the song is about “disappointing somebody” and denies suggestions that it “refers to murder.”

Elvis is King! Every song on My Aim is True is gold. But he's given us so many great songs and musical styles. Next should most definitely be WATCHING THE DETECTIVES

Watching the Detectives, I Don't Want to Go To Chelsea, more of a banger and some great lead and bass guitar playing and clever vocal phrasing is I'm Not Angry.... probably one of his fastest songs.

Somewhere between this song and Pump It Up is what is probably my favorite Elvis Costello song: Everyday I Write The Book. Very fun, but also such great lyrics.

ANOTHER Costello masterpiece: "BEYOND BELIEF." Musical and lyrical perfection.

I love, love, love the opening guitar riff. He's seeing Alison's life isn't all that great and that if he was in her life he would never hurt her like the guy she ended up with. "did he leave your pretty fingers lying in the wedding cake?" It's a sad song. Very melancholy.

Watching the Detectives! If you like story songs, you’ll really dig that one. It’s like a 40’s Noir film in a song. PLUS+ the Bass is AWESOME!

Plus he is married to Diana Krall who is a fantastic jazz singer/pianist. They have twins. Can you imagine the talent in those kids?

(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding, Oliver's Army, I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down, Accidents Will Happen, and Everyday I Write The Book, are my favorite songs from him. I listen to those all the time. The man is a total class act!

Love that you picked another Elvis song. "Watching the Detectives" has the most amazing bass track, it's pretty much the lead instrument. All his early stuff is fantastic. Linda Ronstadt does a cover of "Alison" that's also pretty good.

Allison is my favorite song by Elvis. Everything about it is sooo good. Next I would go with (What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love & Understanding. I really like the song I Want You, really cool.

Watching The Detectives is my favourite EC song - there's not another song like it! BIG drums and a scary narrative, with a heavy reggae slant. It's a MUST LISTEN!!

He never performed it live until 1983, six years after releasing it, and all these years on its still an absolute highlight of his live sets...he often incorporates other like-minded songs into this when he does it live...genius...❤

Elvis Costello's song "Veronica" is a great song about an elderly woman with Alzheimer's, who had such a beautiful exciting life. Touching and catchy tune.

You need to do a lot more Elvis. I love him. There's a song on his Imperial Bedroom album called "...And In Every Home" that is beautiful. Elvis has done songs in every genre. He has even written songs with, and recorded an album with Burt Bacharach, a pop jazz composer.

He’s a king of cool. From the 80’s Every Day I Write the Book and eternally She, beautiful and emotional.

He can do it all... if you run out of ideas from his heyday, check out any song from Painted from Memory... and album he did with Burt Bacharach. Oh BTW- although not so much rock and pop; his wife (Diana Krall) is an amazing musical artist in her own right. I love that you guys are continuing to dig into artists like this!

I had just listened to an interview Marc Maron did with Elvis Costello where he talks about this song, among other things, and then I come here and y'all are listening to it. In the interview, Costello (real name Declan McManus) says that he modeled the structure of this song after some Motown-style song, which I can kinda hear now that he said it. One of my favorite Costello songs is "Accidents Will Happen" from 1979, which reminds me that I think y'all would love Blondie's guitar-heavy 1978 song "Accidents Never Happen."
