Snowdogg snowplows- How do they compare with Fisher, Boss & Western

Ойын-сауық

Snowdogg Plows is a small family run business. They only sell Stainless steel plows & for less than the others sell their standard plows. So I bought one to see if the quality was their- Lets a take a look at them and also how to adjust your plow to save your cutting edge.

Been using a 7.5 ft straight blade Western Snow Plow in Alaska since 1984, got a replacement for the older one in 2009. I have cleared a medium sized parking lot that had 62 inches of wet heavy snow on it. That was a challenge , but no problems. This was with my 2010 F-350 4x4 V-10. One of six trucks that were able to work in our community the next day.

Love the videos keep me coming, I run a small wheel pay loader for snow removal and would love to see a video of TLB/small wheel loader/ skid steer pusher tips and tricks, loved seeing some tips scattered through some of the videos but would love a dedicated video to “specialty snow pushing equipment” not just pickup truck plows! Thanks a bunch for the content love seeing everything you guys do!

We bought one last year, after 9 years of not doing snow we got back into it. We went with the snowdogg over a western because of money and someone recommended it. Hand control is great, I agree, it comes standard with the top flaps and a cutting edge (all extra on a western). The first few falls we kept having issues with it, hydraulic fluid leaks, line bursts, even the entire light bar split off the rest of the plow and had to be re welded on. The worst part it takes at least 30 mins to out the plow on. The lights are horrible too. This year we have only had 1 issue with it, it was the ground on the battery burned out and needed replacement. We bought 2 westerns this year for our new trucks and the only 2 advantages is the controller and the back dragging. That being said we didn't purchase the cutting edge for the westerns, not sure why we didn't.

I also prefer a chain to raise the plow. My dad had the same Western plow for 20 years on his 75 f100. When he sold it still had the original cables and the pump had never been opened up on it. Not bad for a 20 yr old plow. When I bought my 96 Silverado it came with a snow way plow with a hydraulic ram that raised it. Hated it every time I went to town I had to raise it 6 7 times as it kept going down. The following summer I switched to a western pump with a chain and cable operated for the plow. Never had a problem again with it. As for me I would take a old school western any day but to each their own.

Great video, can't wait to see next year update on how it held up.. I just bought one myself for my first year of plowing, but one problem NO SNOW yet this year... Any ways a little FYI snowdogg is made by BUYERS, which has been selling aftermarket snowplow, sanded etc. Parts for years a very large company ... You think with selling all the aftermarket parts for Fisher, western, boss ,etc they should know what breaks what fails and how to fix it... I worked in a warehouse for years selling BUYERS (snowdogg) parts and plows wholesale, and your right many new updates almost every year... also not sure if it's family owned but who cares,lol... keep up on the helpful videos, and ill keep watching. Thanks

Hi Stan, i am a landscaper from Canada. I have run Westerns, Fishers and for 3 winters i have been running a snow dogg extension winged plow. From what i have noticed it has more negatives than positives. NEGATIVE: when in transport mode it constantly bounces, the mounts on the truck itself are really low and scrape when going up steep inclines or driveways. The jack method to unhook takes more time and precision then any other mounts: minute mount, smart hitch, or boss. The adjustable lights always seem to need adjustment: either aim to high or to low. The only pros i see is the build quality. Really massive metal throughout and a good backdrag blade. To be honest i would prefer a western or fisher again. It is on a 2009 ram 2500 6.7 diesel. Thank you for your awesome videos.

Reoccurring problems encountered with snowdogg plows.. lights snap off, cheap hydro rams leak(right from factory), controller bad out of box, deflectors break. Saying that, I have 5 snowdogg plows and they are quality units-one has NEVER quit on a job site. Just got to iron out the small issues^^^ after you first buy one. Tips: buy extra controller and extra angle ram(you can always sell em later)

I have a Snowdogg VMD plow on my truck and it's the biggest pain to get on! Need to have it perfectly lined up and perfect height to get it on. Couldn't get it on last night, just gave up. Will try again tonight. It's very tough getting it on when you aren't on a nice smooth paved surface, my driveway is full of snow and is gravel which makes it very tough. The plow works well when I can actually get it on and I am able to really stack the banks. I have 8 foot tall banks around my driveway now.

What's your 2 Best pro's and 2 Best con's about this set up? My two issues with my snow dogg are lift speed, and how low the mount sits making the approach angle too low. We scrape a lot more than I'd like to on the frame. Love the controller, stainless blade, and obviously price.

Hey Stan, thanks for sharing your experiences with us !! SnowDogg is owned by Buyers which is not by any means a small company ! Buyers own SAM and SAM offers oem-like parts for almost every plow brands at a fraction of the price. Buyers is a gigantic corporation ! The first generation of SnowDoggs were half-assed and comparable to second tier plow brands like Meyer, Arctic or Sno-Way. But sincerely, for the last two years, I've been quite impressed with the quality and solidness of the 2nd Gen Dogg's. I'm still a Fisher guy because the Minute Mount 2 is, in my opinion, second to none. But considering the price difference and the stainless factor, I think that Snowdogg is actually the most competitive plow on the market for the moment.

The way that attaches to the truck is horrible, antiquated even compared to the Fisher MM1's which I honestly don't mind but the Fisher MM2 is light-years ahead of Snowdogg. And about hydraulic lift cylinder failure and getting stuck, just take your Fisher into a stacking position in a snowbank and use the highway safety chain to keep plow chained up and drive away with plenty of ground clearance. Fisher put a nice little notch in the headgear for laying the chain into to attach.

I noticed you have a 2500 ram I also have a 2500 2014 model and ordered a vxf8511 the literature says the plow is to heavy for my truck the sales people say it is fine, did you have to do any suspention prep on your truck to put the plow on because the spec say they are about 200 pound heavier than the Boss or Hiniker.

My limited plow experience was a 7.5 foot western I think on a 4.3 Chevy half ton in larger snows. It was miserable. Not enough truck. Spent much time in a bobcat pushing back... And much time with a welder cause it was old and. Rocky rough roads it was about 8 hours per event... But countless hours doing worse roads with farm equipment. Including pushing out after the plow jockeys can't hack it. I did one drift in 10 minutes that was hard and heavy that had defeated multiple v blades the 65 horse 2wd tractor beat it easy, that being said. If I was in your shoes id consider euro speced (high road gears( 35 mph )front 3pt etc) 100 horse tractors for snow work for visibility with a large front blade and gnues box on the back for stacking and box work. Quickly becoming my 2nd favorite channel. My friends at welker farms will always be number 1.

We use the castle brand silicone dielectric compound its a little red spray can its quicker less messy and it DOES NOT FREEZE! Which the gel style grease does and causes problems

What's the best personal use, straight blade, plow out there for a full-sized truck? If I get a snow plow for my truck, it will probably sit in storage 355-360 days a year, so I don't want to spend big money on one.

Another topic in your next plowing video, talk about some plow etiquette. If you have an expanding plow don’t drive around with the wings out to 10’. Drive with your plow angled to slim your truck profile.

Nice plow but watching the on/off I can tell I’d be extremely aggravated. Add freezing temps/snow/wind etc and it’ll really be aggravating lol I do like the controller. That does look more intuitive, the speed of the plow looks good also.

You should really look at a SnowEx HDV Blade or SnowEx Power Plow if you want to see a well built blade that is super easy to attach/detach. Made by Douglas Dynamics who also build Fisher and Western. Been using them for 3 years now without issue.

I mount and Un mount mine all this winter. The first time was scary. After that it’s peasy. If you are running more plows with different brands. Then I would see why it’s hard(remembering each process). But if you are used to it. I hook up and unhook on the fly all the time.

Western dielectric grease (bought in 2017). Both blades are made by Douglas dynamics as well as Fisher so the cutting edges are the same in design. I do not know if Dogg makes their own cutting edges so run it in the real world and lets see how they do. I know western cutting edges SUCK I will be upgrading soon. I’m not a fan of Salt Dogg bad luck with several spreaders a few years ago so I can’t risk the coin on their plows at this time but I’m with you on the controller it looks awesome!

Stan what’s the secret? At least in your videos you make snow seem so fun and easy. I’m going on my 5th year so I know I still have time to learn. But what’s the key? Is it about quantity? I feel like I’m so busy rushing to get to the next property to avoid customers pressuring me that I can’t even enjoy snow removal.

I havent worked with the snowdog system, or any other, but that looks like a pain in the ass for hooking up, and disconnecting.. I could have my fathers fisher 8' HD straight blade with MM2 off in less than 3 minutes... that includes putting blocking underneath the blade (so it wont freeze to the driveway/road). it was a great system the hydraulics are fast, and responsive. the blade was heavy duty, and would scrape to bare pavement as long as teh pins were setup correctly to the height of the vehicle.

  • @nocoolname32
    @nocoolname325 жыл бұрын

people don't put a price on having a pain in the ass mounting system like this one. but my western ultramount 2 is sooo easy i'll unhook it even if im going 20 miles and have to hook it back up again. the wear and tear i save on the front end of my truck is just more $$$ in my pocket in both repairs expenses and down time. i can have my plow on or off in 1 1/2 minutes on a slow snowy blizzard day.
