I actually know a lot of guys that still run that 2001 and v blade they were tough and work great. I love my fisher poly v such an awesome plow can push a lot of snow in a hurry I love that Chevy 8.1 liter motor is a beast with that tranny great combo

Another tip I learned.. deadheading or over pushing the controls will cause pump premature wear which came from an engineer at Boss. The pump on my sport duty is original as well as the entire plow minus the oil of course. I had a 99 standard duty 7.5’ steel plow and found that was a bit too much weight but that also had all original parts. By far the best brand of plows in my eyes.

I agree...these plows are not bulldozers...I try to be easy on the pump, and plow in general. No ramming or high-stacking.

My 2 cents! I had an old rt2 and also have had a poly 9’2” DXT, a steel 8’2” XT, a 10’ DXT and currently run 12’ drag pro as backup and a 16’ drag pro primary with an EXT on the front. This setup is on a factory built 2019 3500hd with dual alternators (don’t forget the up fitter bulletin) heavy front springs etc…. To address a few things respectfully. V plow really don’t windrow close to as well as a straight blade. You have to cheat half of the leading side to not spill over. They are awesome for breaking into some berms etc but they are NOT a bobcat and will do little for you when you try to break through an icy berm. At some point we need to make customers be accountable for their lack of effort. They can get a machine out there for the first trip mid winter into their mountain cabin. As for the hydraulic lines, the plastic wrap spiral protector is better than the woven nylon protector. My EXT had a hose failure from rubbing against their Behringer clamps to hold the other hoses on year three. My biggest complaint is the hydraulic system. The hydraulic pump on my original boss RT2 was much stronger. This is really noticeable if you buy a 10 foot BOSS DXT because it will hardly lift in the cycle provide it from the controller when you double tap it. It’s extremely slow. My 9 foot DXT had such horrible welding and assembly they literally gave me another blade half after it was out of warranty when I sent them the pictures of their work. It also had problems where it kept breaking something on the breather and would ice up every Saturday night of course at 2:30 in the morning in the middle of my largest contract. Then the plow would not lift. Luckily I got that fixed eventually. Now to address the EXT. After a few issues the first year, BOSS sent me a bunch of new parts and different urethane cutting edges and it seems to be a lot better. This plow moves way more snow than any of the v plows that I ever had and windrows 100% better. It also stacks no higher. Keep in mind, I did not sell my Vplow until I was sure that I liked this one and the first few times I like used the EXT I hated it. But then I got used to it, definitely liked not having to takeoff my wings so I am not “that guy“ driving down the road when everybody else is trying to drive on slick roads in a car. So all in all, I really going forward have no reason to ever buy another V plow and I’m very happy with the hydraulic wings on my EXT. I would recommend you try one. The drag pro, I don’t even have to say anything, there’s nothing better than a pull plow for moving snow and putting it where it needs to go. Enough said

I have the old boss v also on my father in laws old truck. Suck at back blade near the barn where I need it most. But I may up grade it or get a straight plow as a back up option 👍

I actually have a 2018 boss stainless v-dxt 8'2 with the boss wing extenders backed by a 05 reg cab 2500hd 6.0l and let me tell you in terms of differences a boss vplow is a boss vplow what does make a difference is the fact that it's stainless and the flared wings. As for the trucks behind the plows your Silverado is a diamond!

They need to add extending wings to the V's like the ext and wideout plows.

Hey I did an LED upgrade on my 05 boss sport duty and used cheap LEDs off Amazon. It was way cheaper than going with boss’s new lights and you have to repin the headlight harness relay to make the new ones work. It’s hard to explain the LED’s I used, their H11 and 9005 bulbs, mini 4 sided 12,000 lumens with built in fans direct connect. If I could post a picture I would. Their like 16$ a set and I buy them in sets of 4 or more because their cheap and I can afford to replace them at that cost when needed vs buying ultrastars or the brightest halogen bulbs possible. Autofather super mini 4 sided is the brand. I get the 6k color 12,000 lumens. It’s the envy on the block being it’s 17 years old and is as bright as the new Boss plows. Guys say you can’t, I live on the you can do it just research it. Only down side is the lenses freeze over - may have to do with me drilling vent holes on the bottom of the light housing to vent the bulb heat but I get high beam flashed a lot until you flash back. My 2013 Silverado has the same bulbs and being that style of truck is a nightmare to change I went cheap and effective vs expensive (I’d use 4 sets of lows a year and two sets would be in the winter plowing) I use the head light bypass when it’s day time to limit the run time on bulbs and I’ve gotten 2 years out of my current set on the plow and truck.

I have a 2021 F-350 FX4 gives you a on demand locking rear differential., 7.3 Godzilla with 4.30 gears & snow plow prep, 10 speed transmission, two batteries & two alternators. 430 HP/475 TQ. I run a Boss V DXT. This truck can really move some snow .

I'd take the ol chevy with the old plow very similar to my first plow setup 2000 GMC and a 2000 Western plow

I will stick with my 9 foot 6 inch mvp3 an short iron 18 foot pull behind plows.

great comparison between the two Boss plows not sure if you have any Fisher v plows on any trucks love to see a comparison between the two and just curious what plow set ups are people putting on the 4500 and up HD's since it's a bigger truck than the f450 and up since we are talking plows but as always Joe great video and very informative on the Boss plow .

We’ve installed Fisher and Western 10’ V plows on the Silverado 4500-6500 medium duties. We’ve also done a couple of 10’ straight blades. One of the definite advantages of Fisher and Western is they are held by a chain… So if the plow breaks you can chain it up and transport it to the shop.

Nice video and good review/comparison. I ordered my new 2022 2500 gasser with the HD front springs/camper package mostly because it was just $45 but just curious does that give the same FAGWR as the snow plow prep package? Mine is 5200. I love the old 8.1 big block. The new 6.6 on paper is very comparable but also curious of your thoughts on that. From my experience with all the LS and LT based truck engines, the 6.6 has noticeably more low end torque.

After pulling my gooseneck with a 6.6 gas for about 6 months, and also with my 8.1, I could definitely tell the 6.6 was more responsive, more low end grunt. I do like the gearing on my 8100. The 4.10 rear axle + the Allison 1000 5-speed auto work well together...2nd & 3rd gear on my 8100 are very close. Not much of a drop in RPMs when getting up to speed. Overall the 6.6 will outpull the 8.1, especially from a roll. It's evident the 6.6 has more HP & TQ. But...back in 2001 though, that 496 cubic inch big block was king kong! RPO F60 (Camper Package) gives you the 5200lb. front axle on the L8T. RPO VYU (Snow Plow Prep) ups it to 5600lbs on gas L8T and 6000lbs. on diesel L5P Here's everything that comes with VYU: Snow Plow Prep/Camper Package, includes (KW5) 220-amp alternator, includes increased front GAWR on Heavy Duty models, (NZZ) skid plates (transfer case and oil pan), pass through dash grommet hole and roof emergency light provisions. @@truckguyjoe awesome. I’m glad to hear from someone who has a 496 and also driven a 6.6 L8T. I’ve had mine now since December 14 and have just over 1400 miles and I’m more impressed with it each time I drive it. You can really feel the improved bottom end power compared to the 5.3s and even the 6.0s. I’m excited for racing just to get to pull my car with it now. I kinda thought I would get the 5600 front axle rating but it’s no real big deal. For just $45 I felt it was a no brainer to get the Camper package. I don’t actually have a camper but a 24’ enclosed trailer is close enough. Thanks for the reply.

They do retract pretty quick… You can adjust the tension on the return springs. I have mine pretty loose so they don’t come back too aggressively

Seeing we are a Chevy dealership, we will most likely move that plow over to a used Silverado 2500/3500 if we take a regular cab on trade. At the time, this F-250 is all we had on the lot to use for a plow truck.

Why is there a ford plowing the Chevy lots 😤

Usually Fords are doing most of the work, when the deep snow hits we always bring out the F450 4x4 dump truck when we mean business.....
