Actually something like that happened to me. When I was about 8 I think i had been ill but went back to school for the last week before the Christmas holidays and the very day I went back it was the day of The Nativity. I didn’t have a part obviously as I'd been ill so the original plan was just to put a robe on and a towel and play random shepherd. Then we found the lad who was playing Joseph was ill and was staying at home all of a sudden I was Joseph. Problem again I hadn't even seen the rehearsals so had absolutely no idea of what to say or do and they didn’t even give me a script so i could either read from it or at least read over it to try and get the idea so all i knew was the lines i vaguely remembered from when i watched it the year before. It didn’t go well

I taught kindergarten and I thought for sure it was true. Never had a mass illness but mass stage-fright the day of was not uncommon.
