I believe that chasing cars has a deeper meaning... It is about love that gives u a feeling compared to the feeling a dog gets when he is chasing a car... it makes him happy and he does everything in order to reach the car as he is running after it but the truth is the dog wouldn't know what to do if he actually caught the car in the end...and that is what this relationship feels to the singer... he really enjoys being with this other person but in the end it is difficult for him to decide how to continue the relationship and he is not sure if he really loves the person or if he is just in love with the feeling of chasing for love

It's hard for me to think of Chasing Cars as a pure love song, for me it will always have a sadness, a melancholy to it. I blame Grey's Anatomy.

"Show me your garden that's bursting into life" is the best line in any song ever. I think of when me and my woman of 21 years first made love that's what it means to me. Although I have had encounters with many women and I've had children with other women with me and her and love it was a complete different experience with an eye opener it was an Awakening. Thank you for this explanation. Obviously I can’t argue with the writer but for me this song explains the relationship between my mother and I. She was an addict and we had a complicated relationship. No matter how much I loved her I had a hard time saying it because of my fear that she would hurt me again. She passed away a clean woman in 2015, too little to late? I would give anything to be next to her again, forget the world, and just love her. The garden is heaven, when I will see her again. It will be bursting with life and perhaps I will come to know the mother I should have had free of drugs, alcohol, and the stain of this world.
