I actually appreciate this one. What you're talking about exists a number of times already on KZread. Single videos or compilations. What sets this one apart is that it covers not only the news but also the full matches that were allegedly fixed. It's great to get a broad picture on past events for someone who hasn't heard about it all yet. For me, it's the first time I've seen one of the frames Lee or Higgins have allegedly fixed.

If a player is caught cheating, when is it safe to assume he will never do it again. Players need to know that it will cost them everything, should they ever consider cheating. A higher standard is not too much to expect in "professional" level sports. The concept of - what is "fair" for cheaters, should never matter. Get caught cheating, or failure to report an approach, and you are done, for ever! And every player should know it. If you want to hustle, do it in a pub. No one deserves a second chance to further dilute the integrity, of any professional level sport or game.

I still can't believe how Higgins got away with that. There was clear intent. His excuse of 'I played along with it out of fear and to get out of there as fast as possible' is so lame as he himself proposes how to white wash the money. If he would have remained silent in that conversation, I would be inclined to somehow believe his story as possible. But I saw him calm as a feather, engaging heavily in how to do it.

  • @RB747domme

mike best I think, because John didn't actually accept any money. Or lose a match. Or have a history of losing matches. Or haven't been involved with any betting syndicates, like Stephen Lee. And also because mazhar Mahmood was a supposed a gangster, and John knew that he was dealing with gangsters of the ilk of the Kray brothers, at the time he was just saying the right things in front of them because he feared for his life. Even the chief inspector of Scotland Yard agreed, and suggested that he might have done the same thing given the same situation. It was right for John to be banned. It was right for John to be punished. But I don't think you can place him in the same bag as Stephen Lee. John has paid his parents, and done his punishment so I guess we need to treat him like a paroled prisoner who's done his time. I don't think we should victimise Higgins, necessarily, we should try and fight the cause, and stop young players from being tempted to make money through syndicate betting which is now easier than ever, given the online betting companies that exist. People couldn't make online bets now and alias, and thousands of people can make online bets and thousands of aliases, and syndicates can be grown that are very easy to Grey out identity. Can you imagine millions of online bets all over the UK, all over Europe, all over the world being placed in different countries on a snooker match taking place in Preston? With live instream betting with people jumping in and jumping out of bets, and aliases being used to place hundreds of small bets and thousands of tiny vet's worldwide, so that no one would ever catch the culprit who is organising it. MI6 would have to be on their guard to catch that kind of syndicate.

When Higgins leaves that easy pink to the middle it's so embarassing how Lee obviously throws the frame with his shot. Literally nothing to do with the cue ball as the black is almost unmissable after the pink so he blatantly puts power and top spin into potting the pink for no reason other than deliberately running out of position

And the bigger question is if matchfixing is so casual and easy for these guys, how many other great players are in this together?! Are we all being played? This is beyond disgrace... Their infamous match in the premier league is the most dodgy match I’ve ever witnessed. Had 20 quid on Lee myself as a draw no bet think I got 2/1 at the time. It was easier for Lee to win last frame but failed to get position on the black from the pink, when it was easier to just drop it in. It’s what inevitably got the man caught in the end. It’s on KZread. Suspicious definitely. I was livid! It’s at 2:27:00 around there, never seen a match like it. So corrupt! Even the commentator alludes to it by saying ‘what’s he played there?’

It would be incredibly easy to lose a frame of snooker - it does not require any obviously missed shots - just the occasional long or medium pot hitting the jaws - which it might well have done anyway.
