SNL musical guest compilation from their 15th anniversary
A montage of musical guests taken from the Saturday Night Live 15th year anniversary special. Amazing clips from Ray Charles, James Brown, Elvis Costello, David Bowie the Clash and many more.
Sorry about the Audio being a little off, I'm new to this and working on it :)

I recorded this on VHS when it was broadcast, and watched the hell out of this whole special for years.

That was the 25th season episode that aired in '99. It had a bit where Laraine Newman and Dan Aykroyd paid tribute to Belushi and maybe a joke about buying Belushi memorabilia on ebay by going to stuffbelushileftatmyhouse[dot]com lol

Same! My friends and I would watch it over and over!!!
Recorded this on VHS in 90 and there were a handful of artists who I had no idea were. Thank you for this post and to Eric for the time stamps of names and song titles.
Thank you for whoever posted this. God bless you. Had a vhs copy of this when I was 15. Long lost. Beautiful

👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 watched this over and over the year this was on ! Looking for years! Thanks!
Thank you so much for posting this. Last time I saw this was 1990. Most of the skits they showed - from this special - I've forgotten; however, not the musical montage. In fact, I remembered it enough, obviously, to look it up in the hopes someone had it. Thanks again.

I don't know if it's the same special but I have a VHS tape of "SNL: Wayne and Garth's Saturday Night A-go-go". It's got Wayne and Garth doing some bits mixed in with clips of the other songs these artists played and a few more great performances. Hoping to upload it as soon as I find my old converter hookup for a vhs player haha.

I used to watch this when I was a kid at the joint man! Feels so good to hear this! Thank you
This special is where I first encountered “The Band” and just thought they were amazing. Took my VHS copy to my HS English teacher to help me identify everyone. Thanks for posting.
Now if someone out there only has my favorite live tv performance ever: Sinead doing Last Day of Our Acquaintance
Thanks for posting that great compilation! Now I'm gonna spend 2 hrs watching the original videos...love Youtue
Holy shit. More musical geniuses than you can shake a stick at. Thanks so much for uploading.
Great compilation... Great editing!!!
6:35 CLASSIC moment! Got him banned for 12 years.
You notice how there’s all that natural, diverse, talent up there that in no way seems forced or artificial? Kudos to the musical bookers from SNL from that time!
Fantastic! Cheered me up!
SNL25 did a good job adding some acts that were somehow forgotten here (Hall & Oates, Billy Preston, Chuck Berry, Meat Loaf, ABBA, Kinks, Patti Smith), but also made some odd omissions from this (chiefly, Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Wonder?!). Neither the 15th or 25th included the following, and unfortunately SNL40 didn’t have any music montages. If they had, I bet they might have added some of the following that were overlooked from 1975-89: Captain Beefheart, Allman brothers, cheap trick, Lionel Richie, Chicago, Santana, Ringo (he was goofing with Billy Crystal, but still!), Carly Simon, Zappa, Van Morrison, Duran Duran, George Clinton, Run DMC, Dolly Parton

Wasn't there an entire special about the music of SNL? If SNL made them available, I would definitely buy. I would like to see the entire 15 and 25 year specials. Can't recall if the 40th had one.

Hey! There was a 25 year music special. I would love to see the full 15 and 25. It’s probably the hassle of copyright issues, but what a waste! They would sell like mad. There was an SNL 40th special. I think they actually posted it on the channel. No focus (or even mention, I think) on music on that one.

I just have to leave this up. 😂😂😂 I’m having trouble sleeping, and I just replied TO MYsELF from 2 years ago. Insomnia, kids. Don’t get hooked!
8:56 "Drive" by The Cars with Benjamin Orr (vocals) and Ric Ocasek...
And THAT is just from the first 15 years!
I remember watching this when it originally aired. Shame they didn't show the musical guests from the debut episode: Billy Preston and Janis Ian

Awesome
I wish someone would upload the music montage for the 25th anniversary cause that one is also good if not better. It kicks off with Billy preston doing "Nothing from Nothing".

Rewatching and noticed something interesting: every season but 1984-85 is represented. I guess when you've only got nine minutes ...
Gotta give FYC some love

K-tel presents! The original hits! By the original artists!
SNL music is so good when its good bc its got that hole in the wall rock club sound. And the stage really is tiny. They use long lenses and careful editing to mask how small it is.
Where's Frank Zappa &the Mothers of Invention??? They were on the 1st episode!
That 9 minute compilation is better than the last 20 years of music on SNL. Just goes to show you how far popular music has fallen.
Why is the sound out of sync?
Who was the second performer? The woman singing la la la.

They WERE SNL.
As fun as this was to watch it sadly missed some good and unique performances for mainstream people instead. It woulda been awesome to see a couple more of season 6's eclectic acts like Beefheart or the broadway people who was on the Christmas show. They also coulda put Queen Ida on since she's the only zydco act ever on the show. The only non conventional musical guest they included was Laurie Anderson for some odd reason.
I was just looking for this exact thing. I was hoping to find one for the 25th or 35th anniversary. But the best musical guests were from this time anyway. Now it's all hip-hop crap.
Wow music fell off the map.
