As someone who hunts fairly regularly. About 90% of the time, it is movement that allows me to spot an animal. The rest of the time, it is usually the outline of the animals head, ears, back, etc. When it's the color, it's usually a black animal. Sometimes, the sun is just right, and I catch a glint of a shiny coat of fur.

We used to play a game called camouflage in the bush. Even with colorful clothing i could usually hide within 10 feet just by not moving.

I used a set of coveralls i got from the motor pool. Woodland cammo, HD plastic zippers. The armpits zippered open. Velcro closures wrists and ankles. Shoe goo a hood from a m65 and made a great base for a full suit. Great vid thanks guys.

@tacticalhyve I attended the LE sniper schools in 1999 and 2002 at Camp Atterbury. We were lucky enough to get some instructions during both courses from the SEAL instructors. One of the best memories besides being the victim of the driveby donut attack by the seals at th KD range and our frog release in the seal barracks😂 was the chief that helped me with my ghillie suit construction. I picked up a flight suit at the PX turned it inside out and glued shelter half canvas to the belly. Cut the back out attached mesh and then spent countless hours with the seal students drinking beer and shredding and attaching burlap. I retired last year, but I will always remember the skillset and the memories. Even the giant brown recluse spiders all over at atterbury during our stalks. Thanks for your videos Coch and Dorr. Stay safe!!!

Since Navy Seal snipers are maritime the materials worn need to be able to dry quickly because water soaking in the material adds alot of weight. Just like some of the Crye Precision plate carriers do.

I worked on a LRST team in Afghanistan and I carried a m14 on most operations setting up an a OP or setting sensors. I carried a 10in M4a1 in my pack and broke down the m14 when i ran out of ammo on overwatch. Later we switched to an sr25 and left the m14 in the office. I stopped carrying the 10in m4 and was lucky enough to get a 12in upper for the sr25. I did have a TL that told me "don't you dare shoot that 12in next to me." It always broke crap loose when I had to shoot it. We ran in a 4 man team, sometimes a 7 or 8 if we had a ton of sensors to set up. Loved the m14, the sr25 was nice too. Was able to use the 417 on one of my last casts. I loved it but never got to shoot it on mission. If we had to shoot it was a failure. Quiet and quick was the success threshold. If we weren't both....firefight, every damned time we were gone overnight or more than 36 hours in the field.

Thank you for your content and hard work. I saw a video from a bow hunting channel (Traditional bow hunting I believe.) where he uses wire nuts to screw onto the end of the tree stand steps to prevent them from putting holes in his bags. Also, they make strap on versions as well so is there a benefit to using the screw In type that leaves a hole or permanent evidence of your presence as opposed to a strap on one that’s moveable and less likely to leave evidence? Thank you. Take care.

The Tog by Voodoo is kinda the best one piece solution. It provides the hood and shawl, it’s prerigged for jute, and has a zip in hydration carrier. My only issue is it’s a little long but my belief is they designed it to kind fasten in like a diaper. On the zipper/combat shirt note: NEVER put a soft material that will encounter the ground on your body with any type of concealment equipment. I have a buddy who decided that he wanted some venting on his ghillie bottoms, well he chose the reinforced area of the seat. He was in the field and we were doing team stalk and they just walk out into the observation area. I found out later, he did a rucksack flop onto a small broken tree. 1 mm further and he would’ve needed a colostomy bag. His injury made it to the battalion ball photos for the year.

Another good when to use and not to use gear for different scenarios! A good nuts and bolts starter for covert operations from C & D. Those Navy seals are a pretty sneaky bunch and how about using a 19th century widow’s mourning bonnet/veil changing its color from black to ? putting some grass and leaves on it and calling it tactical! Then I find out they use to use makeup! Oh my..my! I never!!!! Thanks guys for the helpful info along with some hard truths and some laughs. As always stay safe and healthy! Ron

You can definitely see the appeal of a “mini-recce” for urban type environments. A 12.5-16” gun that you can clear rooms or reach out to ~500 or so pretty easily and carry a good bit more ammo. I’m trying to imagine how much 300 blk and how much primary sniper ammo would be feasible. None of it is light lol
