In December 2023 I traveled on the french rail network beyond the TGV for the first time. First I went by TER 835020 from Strasbourg to Nancy.
The TER (Train Express Régional) is the brand of SNCF for regional trains. There is no further differentiation, which means a train that stops at every station as well as one that only calls at major stations are both operated as TER. Also there are no line numbers, so there is always shown the train number.
The TER 835020 runs from Strasbourg to Nancy and is a type of TER, which only serves major stations. The comfort of this train is just astounding. This TER operates with Corail-carriages, which impress by their space and especially by their wide and very well padded seats. The only thing that I have to criticise are the dirty windows, which unfortunately is a common occurence of french trains.
The train is powered by an electric locomotive class BB 26000, so it is able to run at 200 km/h, if the railway wasn´t restricted to 160 km/h. But on some other railways in France these Corail coaches reach 200 km/h on Intercités and also TER connections. Regional trains reaching 200 km/h are nothing unusual in France.
The railway from Strasbourg to Nancy uses right-hand traffic until Sarrebourg, then it switches to left-hand traffic. Mostly the tracks are very straight and allowed for 160 km/h, only between Saverne and Sarrebourg there is a winding part, where the speed is restricted to 120 or 130 km/h.

Schönes Video, da bekommt man ja glatt Lust mal selber nach Frankreich zu fahren. So wie der Zug unterwegs ist kommt da ja wirklich ein IC-Flair auf.

Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall! Diese Wagen fahren auch noch in ganz Frankreich rum. Man hat da echt teilweise das Gefühl, als wäre man in den 90ern mit der Bundesbahn unterwegs (auch wenn ich das nie war). Und ich muss auch zugeben, dass mir diese Teile mehr Spaß gemacht haben, als der TGV.
2x pro Tag fahren die Ter Corail auch die ganzen 500km von Straßburg nach Paris auf der klassischen Linie, mit im Durchschnitt fast 40km zwischen den Haltepunkten. Wie ein Intercity. Zwischen Mulhouse und Paris hat es ne ähnlich lange Ter Verbindung. 490km lang überwiegend auf unelektrifizierten Strecken. Durchschnittsgeschwindigkeit von 107kmh nicht schlecht für nen Regionalzug. Leider ohne Corail wagen. Die wurden 2017 durch modernere Triebzüge ersetzt.

Thank you! I did indeed a lot of trips this week. I will soon upload videos on RER in Paris, as well as TER Mulhouse - Basel and TER Basel - Strasbourg. Unfortunately I didn't record the TGV-journeys, because I had bad luck with the seating position.
