I use a Tello for footage on my channel. It's range isn't what that one is, but great to learn to fly! I've tried several drones with those follow features and I've never been and to lock onto an object. My next don't will most likely be a dji mini. I look forward to watching you learn on that drone!

Keep in mind that if your drone weighs more than 250 grams you need to register yourself (not the drone) with the FAA as a pilot. If you make money with your drone footage (such as including your drone footage in a "monetized youtube video" you need a Part 107 FAA license, and register yourself "and" the drone with the FAA. --- Getting it to track something as small as an RC truck is going to be extremely difficult to impossible. You would have better luck getting someone to fly it for you. Be sure to "calibrate" the IMU and Compass, I'm sure it tells you how in the drone instructions. Especially if your drone starts flying in small counter-clockwise circles (known as "toilet bowling") you need to calibrate the Compass (toilet bowling is caused by an out of calibration compass "fighting" the GPS.) They won't tell you this in the manual, but for best results when you begin your compass calibration always start out with the front of the drone facing North. I even carry a small compass in my drone bag. --- I did once get one of my DJI drones to track an RC truck. The drone kept complaining that it was "too low", and the resulting video was not smooth as it would follow the truck, stop, and continue tracking the truck just as it was going out of camera frame. So the drone kept stopping and going and stopping and going.

Ahh yes it was toilet bowling a few times. This video isn’t monetized so shouldn’t be any issues there. Thank you so much for the information on all The legal stuff. I’m just not a drone guy but it is neat.

Compass calibration is important for stability, not only when the drone is new, but also when you have a hard landing (which will happen, my first year flying drones I would tell people I was "going out to practice crashing.") And calibrate fairly often just for good measure. My buddy that got me into drones in 2014 calibrates his "every" flight. Once you get the "calibration dance" down it's really not a big deal. I don't calibrate mine that often, but I do it often enough that I carry a compass in my drone bag so I can start the dance facing North. I have never read in any drone user manual to start the calibration facing North, but before there even were drones when calibrating cell phones compass the instructions most always told you to start facing North. Which just makes sense to me since the whole purpose of a compass is to find magnetic North, so I carried it over to drone compass calibration. About a year ago I was using a star and constilation app on an Android tablet. I was having a difficult time finding stars because the compass was pointing about 30 degrees to the West. A quick calibration and it was pointing North again and I was able to find the stars I was looking for.

The Mavic Mini is a decent option for half the price. I have both the Mavic Pro and Mavic Mini. The Mini at $450 or so for the Flymore package, compared to almost $2,000 for the Mavic 2 Pro Flymore package, holds it's own really well. It's surprisingly stable in wind, and is even more easily transported than the Pro, it easily fits in a small backpack. With the added bonus of being 249 grams so no need to register with the FAA (unless you're making money with it, then you still need to register it and have a Part 107 license.) The main issue I have with the Mini is you "have to have" an iPhone or an Android with "very specific" hardware to run the Fly app. The old DJI Go app will run on most anything. A "work around" for the Mini if you don't want to buy a new phone or table, is to use the latest Litchi beta app rather than the DJI Fly app. You don't lose any functionality, in fact you gain functionality that the Fly app doesn't have.

IVE GOT a couple dji’s & flown a bunch myself joe. (Traxxas ATON, dji Mavic , phantom & matrice ) You’re getting into my neck of the woods with drones. Lol. RC s is my second hobbie. Lol But hey you’ll like that little drone tho. It will be nice for you to get intro & ending shots . The follow won’t work out like I think you are planning. Lol (as far as following a RC . It’s too small if the drone is up high enough to be out of your way. It will track ok if it’s close tho. The best thing is. It will set in one place so you can get lil min or so shots for a wide angle Or arial shot . Lol. You’ll have fun. The tracker/follow me mode in it isn’t as precise as a dji. And you’ll need to keep the remote on you if you are trying / doing a no hands thing to vid while trying to drive a RC. lol You’ll need someone to drive or fly for you some times. Lol But that drone flies good. It stays steady pretty well. Cell towers will interfere with it too. So be careful. And that type of drone hasto be calibrated EVERY TIME YOU TURN ON THE POWER (or if you turn it back on after stopping to do a battery change even. Of it is better to do that . Cuz it will fly without doing a calibration every time anyways. Lol. It just might take a notion to fly how it wants to if you don’t lol ) It’s easy. The gps depends more on the amount of satellites it has found (you should see up to 12 on the app in your hand ) . And It’s been out a while . The software is better than when it came out . It’s only 1080 at 60 FPS. “”” Just remember to match your frame rates to what you are filming in your GoPro or phone . It’s for the editing purposes. Makes it easier & look better in transitions . This IS IMPORTANT JOE !!! “” It flies itself. You’ll be fine. Lol. I was pretty surprised to see this drone . Glad you got one. It will help in better shots. It don’t matter how cheap it is. Tho That drone is a good one in the price range. & also BTW ? WE GOTTA SEE THE GRAVE DIGGER MODIFIED A LITTLE ANYWAYS!!? Lol.

@@ExocagedRC Yeah ? Cool. And yes. I believe we are thinking along the same lines for a modest mod for it. All it needs is a lil more. & Maybe a little better servo & tweak the suspension a tad. Find whole shocks to work ,or Maybe just do some diff springs 👍 I actually like how they did that. I like the axles . & The weight makes it a totally different beast to fool with on the possibilities. Cuz of that ,it doesn’t need much to spice it up right . Lol.

Not everyone has $500 just to "get in the game". And furthermore, most new pilots end up losing their first 2-6 drones ro various different hazards (trees, loss of signal, too strong wind gusts etc) so basically they'd be spending $500 and losing that money REAL quick. Better to start on the lower end ( and Snaptain is an AWESOME company for the more inexpensive drones) that way they can learn without having to worry that they just watched $500-1k go drifting off into the horizon....

@@ExocagedRC Good point. Generally speaking, drones are a very expensive hobby, this is why it was considered a tool for professionals (pilots/cinematographers) for quite some time. DJI changed all that, so most people fly DJIs these days... I fly with a few serious hobbyists and some pros, and in my experience, no drone under 300$ is worth buying for anything remotely close to serious use! Bear in mind that people who have some knowledge on the subject always buy "fly more" kits with extra batteries and a case - a must. (Talking about cine drones here, not racing/FPV quads) Good drones/starting kits would be fly more combos at around 600$: Either a "cheap" DJI (Mini 2) or a flagship model from a cheap brand (Xiaomi Fimi X8 SE 2020 or Hubsan Zino 2+). Every option has its pros and cons, with the DJIs considered the safest choice. I usually fly a Hubsan Zino 2+ and I love flying the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, which is much more expensive. Just my 2 cents...

Are you suggesting that everyone should spend $500 on a DJI or 1200 on an Autel? For the beginner pilot these drones are PERFECT especially when you factor in Snaptain's customer service. It puts HS, Eachine AND DJI to shame ( I won't add Autel as I know many happy Autel owners)....

If a beginner pilot is only (and strictly) supposed to fool around with their drone - and nothing else, then YES, a 200 dollar POS is just fine: - They won't be able to sell their photos - They won't be able to sell their videos - Their work will look really bad, even on an amateur KZread channel... - They won't be able to find parts easily, and most repair shops won't bother with their toy... I am not suggesting that everyone should buy a 600+ dollar DJI - cinematic drones are not for everyone!

@@thepilotxproject4035 IMO those are positive aspects ( that they won't be able to sell their work) as they shouldn't be doing that without a 107 in the first place ( although obviously many people still do) and a beginner pilot SHOULD only be focusing on learning how to fly their drone and learning the rules and regulations that come with it. Btw sorry if I came off as "combative" but I run into a lot of "snobbery" from DJI pilots in regards to Snaptain. As such I kinda have an automatically "triggered" response 😆. But when you figure that MOST new pilots end crashing their drone in a tree, or watching it drift off into the horizon because they lose signal and don't engage the RTH, Snaptain actually IS a good brand to go with as they stand behind their customer instead of their ego ( as is the case with DJI) or just ignoring their customer all together (Hubsan and HolyStone). So yes...on the point of cinematography...you want to invest some money...but for the newbie just learning? Snaptain is the way to go!
