I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!! Rediscovering these films and discovering new (old) titles has been a huge source of joy for me. Thank you for sharing your joy with us. Onward!! P.S. Royal Mail has lost a number of my packages before they left your Country. I relate.

Jackie’s Lo Wei-period films are so underrated on the whole. These new restorations really show what good movies the majority of them are. This one, Shaolin Wooden Men, Spiritual Kung Fu, Dragon Fist, The Fearless Hyena, all really good kung fu films. I’m also a huge fan of his first starring kung fu film, Cub Tiger from Kwangtung (1973). His familiar dramedic character is very apparent even at this early stage, and the fight choreography and acrobatics are quite good. The final fight on the docks is one of my fave Jackie final fights. I have a fan reconstruction using the rare Japanese DVD of the original film and the German Blu-ray of the Master with Cracked Fingers bastardization, properly subtitled and color-corrected as much as possible. I really hope 88 or Eureka can rescue that one!

I really enjoy Cub Tiger and all of his Lo Wei movies - so underrated!! Doubt we'll ever see 88 release that one, but you never know :) Fingers crossed!

This deluxe edition has a brand new transfer as (apparently) a number of people were unhappy with that used on the original 88 release. Also, while I agree Royal Mails tendency to leave boxes on the doorstep in bucketing down rain, chucked in a recycling bin on collection day, or just left randomly in a bush, without bothering to knock or pop a card through the letterbox, can leave you tearing your hair out…you can’t really condemn their workers for taking thoroughly justified strike action in the current ‘shut up and put up with getting poorer’ political climate.

Hey George, I recently watched the old 88 Films release with the Cantonese stereo track which I preferred over the other ones. I couldn't find this track in the description of the new release. Is it really missing?

  • @invincibleasiaofficial

Yeah it seems to be the two Mandarin tracks (one of which was the Japanese one), so it seems the Cantonese track is on the original release only. Thanks for watching :)

Congratulations on reaching over 1K. I’m not going to buy this Blu-ray just for the simple reason that 88 Films might put release a 4K UHD out sometime soon. If they are going down the road & re-remaster past Jackie Chan releases. They might as well release them on UHD as well. At least it will stop people questioning as to why they are doing this.

@@invincibleasiaofficial Yeah that’s the mistake CineAsia did when they took over & basically re-released the exact same Jackie Chan movies. I do think Cine-Asia are an underrated label as they have released a lot of great modern Asian movies.

Subscribed over Christmas and liked your other reviews. This one is slightly misleading however. The original 88 Films release had terrible picture quality and sound, yet here you're praising it? It was so bad that I almost boycotted 88 Films altogether as it was one of my first purchases from them. Luckily I didn't as their later releases were amazing. Also you mention that this new release has the same transfer whereas it's actually a new one with far better picture and sound.

  • @invincibleasiaofficial

Thanks for subscribing and watching, and sorry you found this misleading. I do, however, praise the release in how amazing it is. Strangely enough, I deleted a scene where I argue with myself that I believed it was a much better picture and quality. Should have left it in, but it looked daft. It was one of their first releases in the genre, so I'm glad they've bettered it and hopefully there is more follow :)

The picture quality of the re-release is indeed much improved over the first release, as is the entire package. Very glad it was redone like this, what a fantastic set. I hope that a similar deluxe upgrade of Dragon Fist isn’t too far off, as the original release of that looked even worse than Snake and Crane. Ditto with poor Battle Creek Brawl, what a botched release that was, and doubly sad because that was the first Jackie Chan film I ever saw as a lad, on cable TV circa ‘83/‘84 I believe, and it remains a sentimental favorite of mine, quite underrated and unique among his work. Ironic that those not-great early 88 Jackie releases are what turned you on to the quality of Blu-ray; you must have been absolutely astounded when you started getting Blu-rays with transfers that were actually up to snuff! 🤓

Absolutely!! All of us in the public sector are in the same boat (granted that RM are making much more than us on min. wage) but most of us aren't striking because we know how much upset it brings to peoples lives, so we get on with it. With all due respect, the comment is clearly me venting in jest in relation to a lot of things not being delivered for my kids Christmas and not just a Blu-ray... Thanks for watching :)
