    I'm glad you included the comment about hook being front-to-back. That's the biggest misconception I see in bowling. Most people think "I want more hook" and what they mean is more left-to-right movement, not more grip through the oil. It took me a while to understand that.

    I’m just now beginning to understand that concept , but it’s really revolutionizing my approach to the game . The availability of good intel on the game is so helpful , I quit bowling about 30 years ago and just now picked it back up in this Past year it’s been a blast and Luis is amazing he’s my favorite

    @@cwagner4704 Yeah, I spent about 7 years away so not nearly as long. Welcome back! I think the easiest way to split/understand it is that "hook" is traction and leads to where the ball grips the lane and uses energy, while the side-to-side movement is "backend motion" or "shape."

    Excellent video. Thank you. Started bowling again after 20 years. Just picked up a 900 Reality last week, to replace an old Ebonite Werewolf (circa 1998ish). Watching you throw the Hyroad pearl like that really points out how bad I am at creating revolutions and hook on my ball. I started bowling this season after a very, very long gap of no bowling, and the Hyroad pearl is the ball I bought to replace my 40+ year old Brunswick "Twister" urethane ball. Wanting more hook and pin action/entry angle, I then purchased a Global 900 Harsh Reality, which worked really great for me the first two weeks, but I've fallen off a bit with it lately, even though I've kept it clean, and freshened up the surface with 1000 grit sanding pad. Wanting even more hook and angle at the pocket, I also purchased a Hammer Black Widow 3.0, but I'm getting some lessons before I get it drilled, as I'm obviously got deficiencies in my technique that need working on. I'm also having my hole pattern in my existing balls analyzed by my former PBA coach, to make sure they are optimal. If any adjustments are needed, I'll fill and re-drill my existing balls, then test throw them, before I have the new Black Widow 3.0 drilled. I had no idea that the Hyroad pearl could hook like that, so late down the lane, but maybe it has something to do with how mine was drilled. I'll soon find out. Great video!

    Thank you, Luis! First, thank you for not larding up your talk with bowler Chinese jargon. You kept your talk to plain English. So many bowler KZread videos smother their messages that become impossible (for me, at least). Next. Thank you for using the House Shot lane condition. Common non-pros like me are not likely to bowl on any other condition. Other KZreadrs go on and on about the many many oil patterns so that the main point of the training is lost. Anyway, when I walk into new lanes, I always start with my “house shot” ball and then decide what to do. Next. Thank you for simplifying all the blah-blah about bowling ball “cover stocks,” that is, the stuff the manufacturer put on the surface of the ball. Thank you for dividing the universe of cover stock theory into just TWO. 1) the shiny pearl and 2) the not shiny solid. The word I used to use for the way the ball would hit the pins was “finish.” We talked about the way the ball finished as it neared the pins. We had a more or less “sharp finish,” today’s angularity or hockey stick. So if I learned your lesson about the shiny pearl ball, I should use it when I am trying for sharper finish as the ball nears the pins. Danger though: too sharp a finish: I leave 9 pins or very ugly spare shots due the sharp finish is too sharp, that is the ball has turned left at a sharp angle - a bad angle. So go to the not shiny solid. I used to say the ball had a “heavy roll.” And right you are; generally play this ball more to the right side of the lane than the pearl. Get the solid ball rolling; don’t “belly” the ball to the right side very much because it can’t snap back like a pearl. The solid with a smooth left-to-right “heavy roll” generally carries 10 pins and kicks 4 pins(on a good day). Next. I am sure you know and understand the bowling words that I call bowler Chinese. Maybe this could be the topic of a video. ??? “Shim.” What??!! Took me forever to get it, if I got it. So I throw my ball. But I miss my target a little left. I expect the ball to hit too high. But the ball seems to hold a straight trajectory and hits right in the pocket. (Right? Y/N) Well, there are reasons for that ball reaction. Luis, you threw one with the solid. You missed left, but the ball hit the pocket, and you got a strike. You even said it, and you followed with a better, corrected shot (also a strike). Anyway, I wish I could speak bowler Chinese, but there ain’t no teachers! But maybe I’m the only one and am simply too stupid to understand it automatically. This video of yours, because of that missed shot, is the only video that actually demonstrates “shim.” That is, if I understand what shim really means. I believe that most of these bowling words are useful, but not if people don’t understand them. And I believe most of them can be demonstrated with real shots taken on the lane. Another example. “The ball hit high so I “moved in.” Why not explain that he means he moved LEFT?!!! He will take up his stance on the approach several boards left from his previous starting position. That is easy to demonstrate, but “move in” is Chinese. Lol Thanks for the opportunity to rant a bit. And thanks again for a very educational video.

I would like to see a video that covers when to move up on the approach or move back, or to the left or to the right or to the left and look further right (which you said late in this video). A lot of times when I am playing I see I have to make a change, I'm close to getting the strikes but just missing the pocket right or left, and I don't understand the adjustment(s) that need to be made (which also would include why). I also have a pearl asym that doesn't seem to want to get into a roll. I sanded it a bit rougher under the polish, but I have to throw it at least a mile an hour slower to get it to roll at all. Storm Dark code is angular ball motion. Asymmetric pearl Storm Phaze III is Continuous ball motion. Symmetric hybrid 2 types of pearls & 2 types ball motions is good in arsenal. 900 global zen master is Continuous ball motion. Symmetric solid Only piece missing my opinion would be Asymmetric solid that can get either same ball motion or diferente ball motion through the pins.

    Hello bro! First I would like to thank you for your videos, which I find very informative and useful even though we have different styles! But if there's something I'd like to know, and which I think is kinda relevant is to know what oil profile you're playing on. Of course the lanes aren't all the same (eg. Brunswick lanes are typically "faster" than AMF lanes and so on), neither the oil pattern or type of oil being used in different alleys, but still it would give some sort of direction and hints of how a particular bowling ball would behave on a certain profile. Then of course, you have to try it out on your own local bowling alley and their lanes to see how your ball responds and so forth. Anyway, thank you again for the videos, line em up, strike em down!

    No such thing as dumb questions when you’re trying to learn! So the pro motion is a very very smooth ball so it needs the friction to make its move so once the oil carries down and that free bump isn’t there you need to go to one that responds more to the friction

    I’d like to see what your 5 - 6 ball arsenal build. Explain ball motions each ball in bag 1 Asymmetric Solid 1 Symmetric Solid 1 Asymmetric Pearl 1 Symmetric Pearl 1 Gap Fill Choice ( Urethane, Reactive ) 1 Spare ball Choice ( Urethane, Plastic )

  • @LuisNapoles

    Also an arsenal is totally dependent on what I’m bowling on and where I’m bowling. For example if I’m bowling a tournament on cheetah at the southpoint plaza I’m taking 3-4 urethanes. Listing an arsenal the way you just did is incredibly flawed

  • @SirJoelsuf1

    That all depends on what kind of bowler you are. For example, I'm pretty much a male version of Liz Johnson; VERY low rotation, but a LOT of ball speed. Pretty much the most 1-dimensional bowler you'll ever see. So no matter where I go, I'm only gonna have asyms. 3-4 asym solids, 1 asym pearl, and of course my spare ball. Now if I was the exact opposite and had a lot of rotation but not a lot of ball speed (85% of amateur 2 handers pretty much), it would be a little more diverse. Definitely more symmetric than asyms with most of em being solids. In my opinion, the only bowlers who benefit from symmetric pearl balls are bowlers who are TOTALLY matched in speed and rotation. Same with Urethane stuff. Most amateur bowlers can get away with having nothing but asyms in their bag.

    Very strange, I can’t relate to this at all. I have a Hy Road Pearl which was sold to me as a replacement for my GB3 but since I got it it’s just sat back in it’s box because I can’t get anything like the down lane motion I need and nothing like you show in your video. Mine is drilled pin over the ring finger so should react well but instead just wants to continue to slide through without reading the friction. I’ve been told it could be a resin mix issue from the different factory but no one will take ownership of it 😡

  • @LuisNapoles

    @LuisNapoles

    Well I would take a look at a few things before a factory defect. Is the layout based on your PAP? Also a GB3 and hyroad pearl are very different bowling balls. Are you using the hyroad pearl in the correct part of the lane at the correct time? Remember bowling balls are tools and we must use them at the correct times
