Smoking Homemade Bacon in the Bush | PLUS Naming My Little Bushcraft Buddy!
Ойын-сауық
We finally meet Greg's brother and he shows us his homemade bacon recipe! Then, Greg takes the meat to the bush to smoke it over an open campfire. Also, find out what Greg named his new outdoor companion!
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

Everybody's talking about the bacon but I'm more impressed with the fact that you flipped both of those eggs without breaking the yolk. Way to go mr. Ovens. Thanks for another great video!

Greg you can smoke it for weeks till it is black. In Germany the black forest ham is smoked for weeks until he is black, that is the reason for the name black forest ham or bacon. Smoking only with hard wood. Very important. Take care
So nice to see more of your family getting involved in your videos. It makes it pretty obvious that they support you
I love making slab bacon! Tell Trevor he can quarter a slab and put it in pot covered in olive oil and cook it low and slow till it falls off a skewer. Confit bacon! Awesome! Great to see you learning a new technique Greg. Thanks for this wonderful cook. You guys are making it happen man.🐸🍺🤙🔥

Specialty bacon IS worth paying more to put on the table. We alternate between a local producer and Harrington's, a fine smokehouse in Vermont. I like bacon to be moderately smoked and thickly cut. Then I slow cook it in the pan to render the fat while leaving an appetizing 'chew.'
Greetings from Oregon brother always looking forward to your channel notifications, Greg one of the reasons I'm drawn to you is the reality of bushcraft is also the taking of game fish or furry creatures! alot of channels leave it out they choose store bought meats nothing wrong with that. People all through history have been using what the good lord has provided. You are truly one with nature freaking awesome brother thanks
Not seen this one yet. Finn is just a Lil puppy. Greg, I live in Tn and dream of having places like these to fish and camp. Most of the rivers have been polluted since the mid 80's. Y have been livin' the dream and ours too.

Finley is so adorable. I love watching your videos very informative and valuable teachings. I have learned a lot from you. Keep making the stress free videos for your audience. I know I just think you are a wonderful & positive man. PS You said in one of your videos. “If your not easy on the eyes then you can at least be handy”. I think that is what you said. You may think your not good looking well you are beautiful inside and out. I think a sexy man is a man that can build things with his hands. Fires, forts, the crab cages, building a wonderful campsite as you did.

Shake n Smoke (Bake). Thanks for the lesson. God's blessing
Greg your the most genuine/smartest person I've came across on KZread, I enjoy watching these before I go to sleep!
Tried out the bacon recipe, with brown sugar instead of white sugar. Smoked it with hickory pellets for 3-4 hours and sliced it this morning. It smelled like brown sugar cooking in the pan. It is a great bacon 🥓. Not over salted and the flavor ends with a hint of sweetness. Thanks for sharing this with us. I’m definitely going to keep trying variations of this.
