Smoking/Barbecuing With Almond Wood

Seeing as I am an almond farmer living in the central valley of California almond wood is readily available. So I took some wood from the ranch, seasoned it in my backyard, and did my first all-almond wood cook.

Growing up in kern county this is the best stuff out there in my opinion, high btu as well so it’s great for wood stoves and bon fires.

I love cooking with Almond, not only does it burn a long time compared to Apple, but the coals it makes also last longer so no need to add more charcoal on a long cook and it burns way cleaner than oak in a closed pit. Great video!

Outstanding informational non malt liquor video. I've used almond wood for about 3 yrs now I love it. I'm surrounded by almond trees so I'll pull over and help myself to some on occasion.. I don't think the farmers mind they usually cut up and leave close to the roads. Cheerz

Thanks for watching. And yeah I doubt the farmers mind. I know the last time we ripped two orchards out we were trying our best to give it away.

Man I just thought about trying almond wood, also being out here in the Central Valley. That’s a beautiful pit! I need to find me some almond wood soon. I don’t think it’ll be too difficult to do so either! It’s time for California to have some signature smoking woods similar to texas’ different regional smoke!

Always remove the bark before you burn. The flavor is much better

Good video. No need to use a chimney can for the coals. Just put some paper or kindling under your charcoal grate and light.

Great video brother. I live in Southern California and Almond is plentiful here as well. I recently bought a load of Almond and I was curious about the density of the wood. I tested it with my moisture meter but it still seemed heavy compared to other types of seasoned wood. You have dispelled all my doubts brother. Keeep smoking brother. I just subbed to your channel.

Just giving some info...almonds are not indigenous to California. Unlike red/white/live Oak, almonds were introduced about 60 years ago. However, almond wood is plentiful in California. Good video by the way.

I love it. And the only add on I would do is the front pneumatic tires. The shipping is a bit steep, but I think it is worth it. You should be able to contact them and get a quote on that.

I have not. The branches on our trees are still pretty thin. So they would burn up pretty quickly.
