Wow that looks fantastic! We ad bourbon to fish and chicken brine & it completely changes the flavor for a couple different flavors it's a nice change.

@@LivinMNOutdoors you’re welcome!
Looks delicious! My trick I learned that eliminates the fishy flavor trout and salmon can have is to remove the skin before the brine. Seems to help a ton! The whiter/yellow fillets are from Siscowet lake trout. They are super fatty. Next time you get one, try dropping it in a deep fryer in chunks like you would a wallleye. It will blow your mind how good it is.

Do the fillets still good together without the skin? I have deep fried some in the past and really enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.

@@LivinMNOutdoors the brine seems to toughen them up enough it hasn't been an issue.
The smoke looked fantastic, but I prefer salty over sweet. We used to just smoke them with a saltwater brine.

I like a good mix of sweet & salty. This batch wasn't quite salty enough for me. Thanks for watching.

What is the best wood to use for smoking

It's all preference... I typically use a competition blend from Pit boss. On the backs of the bags, it days what pellets are best for different meats.
northern girl hobbies uses sugar in her brine too i wonder why? sugar isnt something i associate with fish but i guess smoking it would make a good flavor

The sugar tames down the fishy flavor, helps the smoke stick and adds great flavor. Thanks for watching.
These looks super good! Do you think this recipe would work on salmon? I love smoked salmon!

This brine works for all fish. I smoked some salmon last summer, this exact way.

What a stupid comment. If you don’t want smoked lake trout, why did you watch the video? This was a great and informative video. What have you contributed to anything in this life? Not much, I’d guess.
