I used to make small smoke bombs using Gordon's Tree Stump Remover ( from Tractor Supply Co ) and sugar. The mix ratio is 3 parts Stump Remover ( aka salt peter or potassium nitrate ) and 2 parts sugar. The salt peter usually comes in granular form and it works better to grind it down into a powder form using a food processor but it will work if left in granular form as well. Mix both ingredients and cook on VERY LOW HEAT ( and probably safest to do it outdoors ) until it starts melting. Mix constantly once the melting has started. It's done when: Granular- looks like a syrupy / oat meal concoction; Powdered- looks similar to peanut butter. This stuff hardens fast when it's off the heat so be quick to scoop it out onto wax paper when it's done cooking. You can insert fuse, matches, sparklers while cooling for an ignition source or you can set off with a bic lighter but it takes a few seconds.. there is also a fire hazard with these as with all smoke bombs so be careful when making / using these. Again, Gordon's Tree Stump Remover I got from Tractor Supply and it's about $8 for a one pound container.. you can make a bunch of smoke bombs out of it as well.

Good idea Bryan. I liked the green one the best. I'm going to a fireworks store and see what they have. About 20 years ago I set off a smoke bomb in my court. It put out so much smoke it was SCARY!!

I can share from experience, use a sparkler on the Patriot smoke thru the hole in the bottom and it will set it off.

Thanks, great review and info. Smoke is definitely not something people consider for their kit, but I can be extremely helpful. Whether it's a rescue/emergency situation or evasion, it's definitely useful. Pity about the Patriot Smoke ones.

Bryan, Great video. I think the verdict is in and the EG18 was the best. On video it produced a dense cloud quickly with a lot of volume. And it was slow to dissipate.

they replaced all the original ones that were defective. I just made this video so I haven't contacted them yet but he's a straight up guy so I have no worries. He'll make it right.

Crap those were expensive so I didnt even try one out of 4 pack, I could have duds when you need it to work. I had a local training instructor say he had duds too! If I mention to Yeager hell probably ban me, when ever you point out any problems. The owner seemed like a good dude but just need get the chem right I guess.

We carry the EGs but one of the issues I’ve encountered is weather. I don’t stop because of rain or snow but they will start to come apart.

That is too bad. He's a great guy but the smokes need to work. Even just for training they are pretty expensive not to.

Wow. Out $200. To me, all seem like a waste. The wind is the determining factor for that. If it's windy, they do no good. Just my thoughts. Indoors ok. I'll spend that money on ammo.

Survival On Purpose well that’s good but still for that kind of money they shouldn’t fail 50% of the time. I looked up the EG18 and that’s a company I’m going to support I have children and I need to ha love something like that for cover! Right now I’m at the diversion stage I guess 🤣 got something that pops for the bad guys! 🤣🤣

Videos like this make me laugh, let’s break it down, the EG18X go for about $18-$22, and really last about 25 seconds , they’re made out of cardboard absorb ambient humidity and the pull ignition is not reliable (obviously your video didn’t show this , but I have seen it with my own eyes…….same thing goes for sportsmokes) and all made in CHINA . Then you mentioned $50 for those patriot smokes, although they retail near me for $40, and I’ve seen another youtuber retail them for as low as $36, and they last for about 100-120 seconds, and are 100% made in the USA.

I'm not sure what makes you laugh or why you seem to imply I'm somehow missing the point or something. I REALLY wanted the Patriot Smoke to be the best in both performance and value. Because they are made in the USA. And I had a good conversation with the guy who makes them when I happened to run into him at Tactical Response. He is a good dude, a fellow alumni and he supports liberty. But when I had 100% of the first batch fail and 1 out of 2 of the new ones fail I can't say they are the best value. You are absolutely correct that the cardboard tubes of the Enola Gaye are not water resistant. That is a drawback and something to deal with if you plan to carry these. As for the pull start, I can only say that I tested 5 or 6 total (I tested 3 or 4 in the first draft of this video) and 100% worked perfectly. Admittedly, that is not a large sample size but it is WAY better then the results from the same sample size of the Patriot Smoke. Also, the Patriot Smoke did burn longer but the EG18X seemed to put out a bigger denser cloud in a shorter time which may be good if you are trying to hide. And I like the colored options for signaling for help. And $50 is what I paid for the Patriot Smoke ones. If you can find them cheaper that is cool. Bottom line, when an item I test fails (multiple times), it is hard to trust it. Especially an item you carry to potentially save or protect your life. Anyway, stay tuned because I'm gonna do a really short follow up video and test the other 2 Patriot Smokes I have just to see. Of course then I will have burned up $200 worth of smokes to see if they are trustworthy when if the first one worked I probably wouldn't feel the need to do that.
