None of the Marvel factions are exact copies of existing factions. A few blur the lines, namely Kree and SHIELD, as they fall into very common archetypes but actually have some subtle differences. The rest are actually quite original in their mechanics. Regarding the Cthulhu expansion, there is actually no need for all the players to pick a Cthulhu faction if one of them wants to play with one, not even for a balancing reason. I'd say it would even create some imbalance between the players. Miskatonic University doesn't actually care, and can even be strengthened by other players playing Elder Things or Minions of Cthulhu. Elder Things can only effectively be countered by Miskatonic University. Minions of Cthulhu will have a very hard time playing against Elder Things. And Innsmouth interact the least with Madness and can actually get worse when playing against Elder Things. Overall, if a player picks Miskatonic University or Innsmouth. There's no reason for the other players to pick a Cthulhu faction as well. If a player picks Minions of Cthulhu, unless they get some specific parter faction or use their Titan, there's no reason to counter-pick with a Cthulhu faction and the only one not really worth considering is Innsmouth. If a player picks Elder Things, the only Cthulhu faction worth considering for a counter-pick is Miskatonic University; otherwise, you should consider picking factions with extra action plays or factions that wouldn't be hurt if they lose some action plays getting rid of Madness.

I wish people would compare it more but I understand not everyone has all the factions... I've seen several reviews and some mention this set are just tweak version of existing factions...like Avengers been a stronger princess (5 strenght characters)
