If Side B wasn't broke by the lightest breeze, it would be more viable. Should have super armor.

Pressing down b cancels egg roll. Use it to bait in neutral and for niche mobility.

Hey there is actually a use for side b! If your opponent can’t mash out of neutral b fast enough you can side b on top of them and basically roll on top of them which does over 50 damage.

Also sometimes I roll on top of him for 2 hits, weakening the shield considerably and canceling out of side B sideways to avoid jab response then turn around and either smash or down B from the ground , usually connects

Also I use side B to bait the fire emblems parry then cancel out in front of them and just Nair into a combo
A good thing to note about your Up-B is that you don't recharge their height boost by grabbing the ledge. You have to land on the ground to be able to rise with them again.
THANK GOD it’s so hard finding Yoshi tutorials

Thank you so much for more content about my favorite Dino boy! Also I had a pretty good laugh at 2:39 not showing the fair spike 😂
Thanks for uploading a second part to this. You made me a yoshi main and now I’m enjoying the game way more
Your Yoshi guides are sooo good, and enjoyable to watch too! They're a huge boon to my Littlefoot career. Thank you!
Thank you for the Yoshi guides. I've played him since Brawl and enjoy playing as him but sometimes struggle. this is super helpful and I managed to learn so much from it
Yo dude I played you in a few friendlies at Prime Sagaand you helped convince me to not drop yoshi! Also loved this video guide :)
This is a great breakdown. I've been a Yoshi main since Brawl and am looking to get back into the Midwest tournament scene soon.
Thanks I was in a rut as yoshi for a bit and was feeling like switching mains but this gives me more confidence to continue with yoshi

I love these guides since they are so much shorter and have so much more info than the 30 minute guides by big smashers. Keep up the amazing work
Been experimenting around with some different characters and haven't really found a main, this guide and the previous one is kinda making me want to rock the barney
Nice to know there are a few Yoshi mains out there. I'll be studying your vids on yoshi so I can fine tune my playstyle :) I can get people up to 150% without being hit on my good days but I have such a hard time spiking them out xD
One of the best guides of all times!
I just recently switched back into a Yoshi main after coming back from SSBB to ultimate and you just blessed my eyes with this video.. thanks

Your videos are very helpful for me as I aim for the national stage again. I appreciate the work you put out.
I'm also very happy to see this since yoshi is my Secondary main and I wanted more info to improve on him so thanks
I love this video! It helps me be a better yoshi main!
I love this. I watch this on a weekly basis to recenter how I play Yoshi
Thx banana i always was a pikachu main since melee but it got boring so i picked up yoshi si ce yesterday and i really like him and his spike is fun to hit cause of tbe sweet apot you earned your self a new sub
I CAN'T WAIT FOR PART 3
Just wanted to say that i really like your videos!!
You forgot the best part. If you put up shield and drop it super quickly (just mash shield) Yoshi does a little dance! It’s awesome since you can’t taunt online.
I loved your vid! As a fellow Yoshi main throughout Smash 4s life, I can tell some thing you may have missed 1. You can use egg after getting launched if you tap B, as the egg won't fly as high or far, covering the approach 2. Dair can break shields if coming from above/above the opponent 3. Utility of Down Smash to catch high ledge recoveries 4. Juggling applications of Egg Throw, especially with all the angles it has 5. 7:07 will never be not true haha
Banana boy I have to say that you inspired me to play Yoshi and I actually really love playing him.
All I have to say is yes and thanks for making a second one
Your videos are always amazing
Banana Boy, your videos never cease to amuse and educate me, thanks so much from a fellow Yoshi player!
I would love to play a few matches with you, Yoshi against Yoshi. I've a feeling you'd absolutely trounce me, but at least I'd get direct tips. Because while I can learn by using a video as just a guide and recall and implement the knowledge I gained, there's nothing better than having someone who knows the character better than you assess your playstyle. Plus, it'd be super fun.
Finally this is awesome

Thanks for the guide matpat!
Banana Boy ur intro is the best on KZread it’s so short simple not crappy dubstep with a channel name changing angles it’s just simple Mario World song
This video helped me play yoshi better. Thanks!!!
ah another great tutorial, this really helped with my hate for the yoshi mu, hope to see more vids like these
Thank you for this guide I got into top 16 in 1week of playing Yoshi after following this guide 4 a WiFi tourney. Thanks for helping my main
Wow didn’t expect this vid but I main yoshi and I’m very exited
You can definitely steal some kills with down-b while your opponent is trying to juggle you off the top, people react way less often if you initiate it while in the magnifying glass, plus it launches upwards, definitely a good bonus application of the move
Thank you for pt 2 will buy your shirt
An extremely rare yoshi side B usage I found (a bit over 10mil GSP as of Aug 1st) is as a momentum mixup when landing to stage. People often try to hit where you're going and nobody expects your momentum to halt so abruptly.
My favorite way of edge guarding vertical recoveries with Yoshi is a run off b-reversed egg lay. Its very satisfying to get and pisses off your opponent. I've found it pretty easy to get characters like Fox and Falco's up B, and even Joker's up B (w/ Arsene). Using this. It of course requires a read of when they will up-B and isn't the most optimal edge guard option, but I find it fun to go for online.
I’ve been a Yoshi main since brawl so this was helpful
Hope to see ya at lan king!
I've joined the ranks of a Yoshi Main, I LOVE HIM, he is so much fun to play i never had as much fun in the game before him thank you for opening my eyes
niice. this came just in time
Super good tutorial, you shouldve covered some options with being ledgetrapped yourself. With yoshi you have the best get out of jail free card with double jump, drop down from ledge dj allows you to armor through a lot of moves that would kill you at high percent.
I picked up yoshi as a main 1 year ago and do not regret it at all
Side b is decent for platform pressure if you have decent mobility control with it while jumping in the egg roll
Yoshi mains like I appreciate the banana boyo. Thank you.
yo whats that music at the end of the vid? sounds like mario but not sure which exactly thanks for the guide btw!! You have some of if not the best guides on YT and you are why I am a Yoshi main lol
i use side b as a mix up tool personally, and down b is very good at breaking sturdy shields, overall, great video though. ive been a yoshi main since Sm4sh and have learned a lot about yoshi from coming to your channel so thanks, i guess.
Ngl side b can be a GREAT mixup, lots of ways to get creative with it in neutral, yeah it loses to everything but if you use it no more than a couple times a set you can really throw your opponent for a loop
Yoshi is the caracter I know best how to play but I struggle, experienced players kick my ass so this is very helpful thanks a lot my friend
As an aspiring Yoshi main I do have a somewhat good use for his side b Since I usually use the egg throws to approach, apply pressure, ledge guard and neutral (it's essentially 50% of what I use in a match), if I'm up against a spacie or a character who can counter the up b and 'return fire' I usually use side be to mix up the approach to get some damage before I boot scoot and boogey the heck out of there, since the spacies' reflect, and Ness's bat, weirdly enough, can't really deter or nullify the damage of the side b
As a donkey Kong main I’m starting to pick up yoshi and Wii fit trainer. They’re good for combo heavy characters because donkey Kong is crazy big and gets combined easily
Me: About to sleep Banana Boy: Notification for a new video And that’s how the legend of a reasonable sleeping hour is born
Hey Bananaboy! love the yoshi videos and i just picked him up as my main in smash U. I was wondering what you think about short hop drifting downair, its something i use to read opponents who roll a lot and leads to possible tech chase scenarios (at lower percents) in my experience. You play at a higher level than I do so I was wondering if this doesn't work against better players or if there's a more optimal way to punish rolls.
Honestly this channel is so cute and helpful it needs more subs
Do another one of these!!
I was playing at my first tournament l, and in pools this guy I was playing didn't do anything about down-b several times in a row, so I just spammed the heck out of it . Now I feel bad, but I did condition him to start countering. Also going to a state tourney for my first was probably not the best idea, but it was fun.
Dair is super good in matchups like ike where fullhopping is an important part of their neutral Try to not mash with dair, fading back with it if you whiff is a million times safer then continuing to drift forward, if you drift forward then opponent will just backdash and punish, but drifting back allows you to catch them if they try to punish your whiff (depends on circumstance)
Yesssssss. Finally
I'm a Yoshi main and I have a use for Egg Roll. I use it to mix up my recoveries. When you're trying to get back to stage you can go into an egg roll which causes you to fall fast and the opponent thinks you missed an input and are going to die. Then you pop out and double jump to the stage.
TO PRACTICE THE JAB LOCK COMBO AT 1:36 - 1. You can do this on Mario with CPU damage on 47% minimum. 2. To jab lock, you need to run to Mario and move him a tiny bit and then jab. 3. You will not have enough space to do this combo on a regular stage (i.e. not the "training" stage) in training mode unless you ensure Mario will land on the larger part of the stage after the down tilt. Otherwise, the down tilt will send Mario to the ledge. 4. Mario needs to be facing you in order for the 2nd jab to connect, so either push Mario to the other side of the stage by running into him and then go on his front side and try to do the combo, or just get behind him and jab him once. 5. Reverse up-tilting with the C-stick is fucking annoying to get used to. 6. Even the double-jump up air is tricky. The spacing is a little weird as you have to move a little toward Mario as you're going up. Meaning you have to input up-air --> move to the right a little --> up-air fast enough that the combo remains true and that you don't accidentally do an forward air. The 2nd up-air is what is hard to land. Hope this helps
Great vid
Finally someone who covers Yoshi. I absolutely NEVER come across any Yoshi players in quickmatch in my region (central Europe). I feel like I'm the only one here lol.
Thank you banana boy very kool

"You Banana buoy" is the same forwards and backwards.
using side b after putting the opponent on a neutral b if u go on top of the egg and mash right and left you can get like 50% at higher percents
Great video. Also, i think maybe yoshi's side b could be helpful in putting distance between himself and an opponent, but i don't know for certain. Also could you do a falco guide video, because I'm a falco main and it would help a lot.

How to play falco, uptilt
I main Yoshi and find great use, with side b, actually. It's a great tool, for mixing up your landings, if you're above stage and looking to land, safely. Your opponent will be reading your trajectory, while assessing your options, of course. 100%, of the time, your opponent guesses wrong because they don't consider "completely stop all momentum and freefall(what happens, when you Egg Roll, in air)" to be an option. Beyond that, I use it to punish landings and mix up my approach. Try to Egg Roll, at your opponent/where they'll land, stopping just outside their range, and Dash Dance(until opportune moment, to hit your opponent).
Thank you for this video I only main Yoshi or link
I'm not a Yoshi main.... YET. I wanna make yoshi my secondary / new main so thanks a lot for the help!
I use side b as a kill set up for up air when I feel like going for the cheese.
At either ends of a stage, you can do jab, then run off stage and do a fair. That is if they don’t jump. It works around 60%, last time I recalled, and it of course it depends in the opponent’s character.
Only use I find for neutral b is sometimes a mix up landing option
2:39 I loved that part of the video.
This is by no means a reason to use egg roll, but it does become a better move (still not viable) if you psyche your opponent out with it by moving back and forth a la dash dancing. A little known fact about the move is that you can actually jump with it, so you can catch your opponent off guard with it, but it doesn't do much damage and doesn't lead into anything, so its pretty much a disrespect move. Edit: Something I noticed that you missed in how his down b was buffed. You can grab ledge regardless of the direction you're facing, and you can grab ledge much earlier, as in, you can grab ledge if you down b literally right next to ledge, whereas in Sm4sh you would die. Just make sure you're not holding down or you'll sd. This is a really good edgeguarding tool, because low recoveries towards the ledge are extremely popular, especially with characters like Captain Falcon, Joker with Arsene, Rosaluma, teleporting characters, the Links, Robin, etc. Basically anyone with a vulnerable recovery from the top is fair game, and you can just spam this if they're beneath the ledge. It also trades with a lot of characters with good timing, like Lucina/Marth, Simon/Richter, Peach, Mario, etc.
side b is an air stall and comes out with a hit to avoid anti airs from the ground
After your last Yoshi vid I tried him out online and decided to make him my secondary
when you started talking about down airs, i was using down airs while playing smash lol
Curious to know your thoughts of down special from ground facing off stage w correct spacing into ledge grab to safely cover shield get up. Oh...and also a Yoshi main. And if last hit connects with d-air does it still drag down?
@JustChllin

You can make them into an egg and then use the side b and constantly hit them
Maybe do an incineroar guide, since there isn't many guides for him anywhere and I really want to learn cool stuff for him.
I'm glad he accepts the fact that most Yoshi mains eat glue. 1:28

I feel like you forgot to mention that grounded down b can be used as a OoS option/mix-up for his ground game. Personally, I’ve gotten a lot of kills from it and while it can be punished if the opponent knows what they’re doing, is still a pretty decent option imo.
Hey man, would ever consider making a guide on how to beat the Yoshi matchup? He's kinda my bane.
@miniyodadude6604
5 жыл бұрын
For beating bad yoshis, if they jump at you then dashback and whiff punish. Keep them in the air, if they ground pound then you hit them before they start falling or whiff punish it. Grab them a lot, whiff moves around their shield to bait out nair oos and whiff punish it
Yoshi dair might be his best aerial with huge range, damage output and lasting hit boxes. think allot of former smash 4 players underutilize it
More smash fundies please!!!!
