smart EQ fortwo and forfour Test Drive and Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

New for 2020 is the updated, purely electric-powered range of smart EQ models featuring new styling, interiors and technologies.
When driving the smart EQ range there is no delay when you touch the accelerator pedal. This is hooked up to a 17.2 kWh battery with an electric range** of up to 83.8 miles in the fortwo coupe, 82 in the fortwo cabriolet, and 80.7 miles in the forfour. All smart models heading to the UK come with fast charging capability thanks to their 22kW onboard charger.
Every new smart model benefits from the OLEV Government Grant for zero-emissions cars. As a result, the range starts from only £19,200 for the fortwo and £19,795* for the forfour both in Premium equipment level.

Poor Prof. Johann Tomforde.. he invented the smart, but Mr. Hayek was way more known for is smart car idea.. when he failed to build one with VW, he moved to Daimler, where Prof. Tomforde was already at finishing the smart car he invented and engineered since years.

Hi EQpassion, Prof. Johann Tomforde was indeed the development coordinator for future traffic systems. His sketches go back to the 1970s and he was influential in the Nahverkehrsfahrzeug (NAFA) concept of 1981 which paved the way for the smart models once the collaboration with Hayek was formalised.

He showed me his first drawing of the concept, I've seen them in person back in 2017. His current company Teamobility published a collection of them since then: www.teamobility.de/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Smart_History.png They date back to 1969. 👌🏼

Took ownership of mine 2 months ago, Edition 1 in Asphalt Grey, Absolutely LOVE IT, I had the Smart ForTwo Prime Premium previously and that was amazing but I love how smooth an electric Smart is. Only problem I’ve had is with BP Chargemaster, 2 months and still waiting on wall box. This has nothing to do with Mercedes I might add as they have been great. I will never go back to a fuel car, and if you try it near will you, People say the Range of 100 miles is absolutely unacceptable for an electric car but I disagree if it’s less than 60 miles a day, anymore I’d look for something with more range but I beat my Range every time, I’ve gotten as much as 115 miles from my Smart when it stated 78. Allow the Regenerative braking to do its work and anticipate your stopping distance and it’s possible. Problem with electric is it’s addictive acceleration. It’s rapid!

For me, my drive to work consists of around 8 miles town and country driving and 68 miles motorway daily, that's total for both ways, because of the time of day I go to work, I hardly ever touch the brakes anyway, going home there's much more traffic on the road so it's a very slow plod home, this is the shortest and possibly the quickest route, I would drain the battery on a daily basis, if it managed the journey, it's a shame as I really like the look of the new Smart even if it is a bit pricey

Thanks! I've just ordered the same one, which is coming this Friday. It will be my second EV. This is just for taking one of us to work, whilst the other one has to cover the school run or emergencies, but I still worried about the range. Paid £16,980 for it, hope I got a good deal.

I've been driving mine for 3 years and I still enjoy driving it everyday, only down side the app is shockingly poor I've deleted it because it never connected . A major issue I've had is using the pre heat setting in winter. I wanted to charge my car overnight with the pre heat set for 6:30 am the car randomly will charge or not. One morning I walked up to my car seeing it was still frozen thinking I forgot to set the pre heat NO ! Pre heat failed plus car only charged to 80%. This is a major problem, now I charge to 100% then set the pre heat. I've been to dealer 4 times withl no joy. I'm looking at a new edition one I hope to god the software is better.

Is it possible to design an extended trailer that matches the Smart Fortwo? Most of the time in the city, there will be no more than 2 people in the car, and there is no effective distance problem. When people want to vacation in the suburbs, extended trailers with carriages can meet this demand.

Nice cars, shame about the range, if they went further between charging and could cope with the journeys I have to do, I'd buy one, at present I have a 2011 diesel Smart, it's a brilliant little car to drive, not as good as the newer models but great little machine

In the beginning you said they used to make just combustion cars and then just electric, but that's false. The fact my dad owns a 2012 Fortwo Electric Drive proves they did both simultaneously.

£160 per month on a 4 year lease with £160 down. Practically cost me less than £20 per month charging at home. Super cheap commuter car this. I might just order one this week.

The US Smart car market was killed off entirely by this decision. There was no reason to entirely get rid of the gas engine Smart. You could have sold both here in the US. Instead our Mercedes dealers just did away with Smart. The expected range is a joke.

@@LandLAutomotive seriously you get how expensive it's for a small car like this and it's not widely available everywhere and lets say if i want one i will have pay for import tax say for in thailand and it will 100% full tax and add the full price of the car it will be 30k . with that i can get a much better car irrespective whether electric or non-electric. if smart is serious about selling more of its car to other countries it needs to be much cheaper coz at 15k pound toyota or a honda which has much better specs and options and less not forget repair service which smart doesn't have. so don't be so smug - "That's a shame! Maybe an Approved Used smart would be better?" that is not how a brand should reply and comments. it give off he vibe that you are superior while i am inferior ! really shameful coming from a world famous brand !

@@khunsomtam672 Hi there, we are a UK based local retailer so unfortunately do not set the prices. This would be done by Mercedes-Benz Head Office. We believe smart is a fantastic product and the EQ models are a great step into the future with zero-emissions driving. The comment was purely based on new smart EQ and potentially an Approved Used smart would be much more cost effective, for the same great product. 😊 Apologies for any offence caused! Many thanks

Until the battery is made serviceable if anything go’s wrong your facing a £18500 pound replacement cost, and don’t count on the battery warranty that’s got more get out holes than the titanic, and overpriced as are all ev’s, having said all that I love my 451 electric drive, right up until the battery sensor failed and the bms shut down, six months to sort out no help from Mercedes and Smart.

I Andrew it’s not the Mercedes dealers that are the problem, it’s that Mercedes made the battery’s totally unserviceable and it’s not just smart it’s across there range EV’s I have heard that they are thinking about changing there policy on this, I love my Smart ED and it’s only because I am in the trade that I’ve been able to repair it through sheer stubbornness It took six months of frustration a Russian and a Hungarian and a translator to fix, what should have taken a three hours a £150 part and a ecu reset, if I wasn’t able to fix it I would have been scraping a 10,000 mile car and a loses of £12000 pounds, how can Mercedes look any customer in the eye and think that’s ok.
